The Moonchild: a space explorationship. Built for short term travel to nearby moons of Saturn. Purpose: to start a moonbase and do research on the moonsurface.
More, much more pictures coming soon...
About this creation
The Moonchild in it's totality. I love the way the structure evolved into a narrowing of the middle right before the cargospace of the ship. It gives the ship some feminin features and that's exactly a sweet spaceship should look like: atractive...

flying by on the right side of the ship. I wanted to build a ship that wasn't boxy, very different of what I used to make before I knew MOC-pages.I came up with the idea when I saw Keith Goldman's Ghoul. The first thing that popped in my mind was: this, I want to try one day...Allthough the chassis is of a very different kind, it's still the shape of a triangular body.

front.
Isn't she a beauty?

As you can see, greebling had a lot to do with this ship. Regardless to any "unwritten law of how to greeble a spaceship" I just added, and added, and added. Those EXO-force hoses are great to work with.
Any explorationship needs a radar.

engines. They are something that need work, I realise. Not to happy with the result. More experiments on engines will follow...

greebling. As said before; I never thaught they would be that much fun. I'm thinking about doing a study on greebling in the form of another spaceship. Advice is welcome!

deploy landing gear. This is where the fun starts... I made an actual landing gear on this huge spaceship. Because its purpose is to start a moonbase on the surface it needed some features. The nose is seperated and lands, automatically, on the moon first. Then the booster engines seperate as well.

Ready for touchdown.
The back of the Moonchild, booster engines seperated.
And... Touchdown! The cargobay can open up at both sides. Here you can see one of the scooters coming out of the cargobay.

The nose of the ship has landed fully automatic on the moon's surface. Inside the nose there is a canon. It is easy to construct and quite quickly ready to use. It's main purpose is to defend the landing area against incoming meteorites.
Engines found their way to the moon.

The engines are usefull material for building a settlement. They should be completely integrated into the base. The round structure you see are self-inflatable cilinders, providing the base of immediate oxygen to do the urgent task of building a base.
Nice picture.
The scooter, up close.

The moonbuggy is a slow scout but excellent in taking samples.

Unusual chassis indeed and that's why I like it so much! The three sided build is very ambitious! The top view pic captures the shape really well. Great foray into greebling by the way! |
