LSF Interceptor
Swooshy...
About this creation
This was inspired by Soren Roberts' YF-18 (he was probably my biggest influence), but my version is smaller and uses more SNOT and angles. His is still cooler... was. I don't know why he just left like he did.
I view this fighter as an improved version of those little ships that Dan Jassim's Gibraltar carries. It's bigger, faster, and more heavily armed, with two lasers and six multi-load hardpoints. It was just as challenging as the Assault Shuttle; small ships can be just as difficult as big ones, since you have very little space in which to put everything. This shows in the model: the exterior is everything I wanted it to be, but the weapons hardpoints can't carry very large weapons and the cockpit is really, really plain.

Front. The armament on the fighter's wings is currently configured for deep-space battles with four anti-fighter missiles and two anti-ship torpedoes. The lasers are on top of the fuselage (the red lights are focusing lenses, the blue lights are targeting sensors).

Side.

Top. Much like Zachary Sweigart, my brain is only large enough to hold one basic shape for spacecraft. (I don't mean that in a bad way... he's better than I am) Think this is the last time you'll see it? Think again.

Back, with obligatory Big Wheel-Engine With Spike In The Middle. The angled nozzles of the jet engines/secondary thrusters are the most obvious similarity with the YF-18.

Nose on. Though the yellow bricks were still placed by nothing more than the laws of probability, I kind of like the way the white accents were placed.

Underside. Can you spot the retractable landing gear? I'm really proud of it, you can't even see it when it's retracted. Well, sort of.

Landing gear down. The fins of the wingtip missiles are barely off the ground. The biggest limit on the types of weapons the aircraft can carry is that if said weapons are too big, they'll touch the floor when the gear is down. I can't make the gear any longer or it won't fit in the wheel wells.

Detail of the guns and greebling.

Obligatory shot with all the weapons spread out. The pilot is also standing outside the aircraft. There are four Sidewinder air/space anti-fighter missiles, two chaingun pods for ground-attack missions, two cluster pods, two anti-tank missiles, two heavy bombs, and two anti-warship missiles.

Taking off.

For space dogfights, the LSF Interceptor is often armed with cluster pods on its innermost hardpoints. If a pilot finds himself pursued by an enemy, he simply jettisons the bombs, releasing a cloud of grenade-sized bomblets behind his ship. This tactic is also used to wipe out squadrons of small fighters like Eastern Block Zog-15s.

Ground attack configuration, with two anti-tank missiles and two chaingun pods.

I love the shape, and color scheming has improved greatly. lots of detail, too. the way you crossed a "wedge" and a "flying wing" makes for great style.

Just clean up the colors (perhaps grey with yellow stripes and the occasional white highlight, instead of random sprinkling) and you've got yourself an exelent creation.

great job! at a smaller scale your color selection gets better! the shape is indeed "swooshy", and your use of various angles is very good. as usual!

I love the design. It has a lot of potential, but the mismatched colors are the only thing holding your creations back. Pick up a couple more kits so that you can get the right colors and your creations would be some of my favorite!
