Big Yellow Cyclops Wannabe
About this creation
I've had this feller in my Brickshelf folder for a long time, and he's been sitting on the shelf in my room even longer. My memories from 2005 are astoundingly hazy, but I assume I made him shortly after Episode III came out then, in an ensuing wave of apathy, neglected to take photos of him. I'm not entirely sure that I actually did finish him, but he looks okay to me so I may as well upload the guy.
The only Clone troopers I've ever actually liked were the ARC Troopers. Episode II Clones have the best designs (I later realised that the main reason I like them is because the helmet is a Rocketeer ripoff, but that's a story for a later minifig), and I liked that ARCs had subtle colourings to mark them different to normal troopers. The whole subtlety thing disappeared in Episode III, so I'm not sure why I made minifigs of the Clones. Anyway, this was probably the most difficult of the four and a half Ep.III Clones I made (I haven't shown the other 1 and a half yet), involving endless filing, cutting, painting, repainting and shouting.
All that came out well, in the end. As you can see the visor does move up and down, which is where the major trouble came in. I drilled a hole in both of his temples (when I say 'drilled' I mean 'slowly poked through with a tiny screwdriver'), but later found out that I had made them too low and had to shave off a whole lot of plastic from his forehead to get the visor to move. The visor, because I know somebody's going to ask, is made from part of the binoculars that the Lego Clones use (the big high-tech ones) and a pair of aviator goggles.
In retrospect, I probably should have painted them Gloss White, but I don't care enough to do it now. The legs are White with Yellow painted on the thighs, as are the arms and helmet, but I'm sure you knew that already.
I don't know why they wear skirts into battle, either. I actually made an ARC Trooper before I made this, but never got around to taking pictures of him, but the two have the same skirt design in different colours. The Bandolier is just another decal, stuck to his hip and neck thing.
As with all the Clones, there aren't any pictures of Bly from behind. I just went with the generally accepted Control panel and Thermal Detonator design. Now that I look at this I can see just how much I sucked at painting two years ago.

Extremely accurate! I love this, and well I think your painting didn't suck back when you painted this; I am quite fond of custom clones, but have very few regular non-custom ones (mainly those shown in my dioramas), and anyway I wouldn't know how to make my own decals (the how-to of which I would like to learn, BTW). Keep up the good work! |

Actually, I wrote this lol (I forgot to make a account) :wow so many ppl asking for inscructions... By the ways...BEST CUSTOM I EVER SAW!!! I mean seriously it really is. Great job with, all that painting! Almost nothing is non-custom! rock! And NOT MESSY! GREAT! All the customs i usually see are crazy messy, and u can see they were made by those messy markers. 10/5!!! |
