About this creation
Credit where credit is due :

Special thanks to Sebastian, creator of the Lego Chaingun, for coming up with this trigger design for me. This crossbow would not have been possible without his help.

Also thanks to Klaus Reimer; the pistol grip I used for this crossbow came from his Lego Desert Eagle plans.

I built this crossbow mainly as an experiment, to find out how much power I can get. You see there are two struts on each side; originally I had planned to have a series of 4 struts on each side, resulting in a powerful cascading effect. However, I ran out of room and out of Legos - this crossbow is bulky and unwieldy with just two struts on each side.

Here's the general info on this crossbow :

It uses 6 rubber bands total; two of them, tied together, form the very back string. Two more rubber bands hold the struts together. The last two rubber bands go from the front of the crossbow to the forward struts. The combination provides EXCELLENT power, with minimal stress on the rubber bands. I have not had a single rubber band break with this crossbow.

It can fire any 1 stud wide Lego beam, anywhere from 1 to 12 studs long. I can even pack in a bunch of 1s and 2s, and fire them all at once in a "shotgun" blast.

It has excellent range /power - I've gotten this crossbow to fire over 50 feet with a 6 stud long bolt. With a 4 stud long bolt, I've gotten it to inflict bruises on my hand.

Without any further ado, here are all the pictures I've taken of the crossbow :

The crossbow empty

The crossbow loaded

A closeup of the hinge design I used to fasten the struts to the crossbow body. Here's the strut in the forward postion and the back position.

Me holding crossbow while it's empty.

Me starting to pull the string back.

Me pulling the string all the way back.

Me inserting a 1x12 brick in as the crossbow bolt.
