Part 2:

LOM: Answers Part 2 (2)

As the two men stepped into the shop, Filberth wasted no time in explaining himself. "Sorry for the delay, Reghof - it took me longer than expected to do my research. Anyway, I believe I've found the answer to our questions. This is Stefanus."

LOM: Answers Part 2 (3)

"Call me Stefan," the man added.

Filberth continued, seeming annoyed by the interruption. "Anyway, Stefan is a crim-"

"A businessman," Stefan corrected, scandalized.

"Call 'em what you want. They're the same thing over here. Anyway, I recall that you wanted to give us some information about The Boss."

"Wanted? I don' recall wantin' to tell you anything!"

"Is that so? I seem to remember that you agreed to tell me what I wanted so I'd keep quiet about how you're augmenting your income."

"I could have you in for blackmail!" Stefan whispered threateningly.

LOM: Answers Part 2 (4)

"And you wouldn't. You can't answer the authorities' questions without admitting your own crimes." Despite the threats, Filberth's voice was still calm.

Stefan sighed. "Wha'd'ya want, then?"

"Let's start this off simply. Who is The Boss, and how do you know him?"

LOM: Answers Part 2 (5)

Stefan started to respond, but his comment was cut short as a customer walked over and asked to purchase an item. Stefan took the man's offered money as the customer started to walk away. As Stefan turned back around toward the others, Reghof noticed another sum of money in the businessman's right hand. As Stefan saw the Mythronians' accusing looks, he merely responded, "A man's gotta do what he's gotta do t' make a livin' in these times. C'mon - let's go upstairs where it's quieter so we don' get interrupted ag'in."

Filberth started to mutter something about making excuses but stopped his complaint at a glare from Reghof.

LOM: Answers Part 2 (6)

The room upstairs was presumably Stefan's home. It consisted merely of a small bedroom with little in it other than a bed, bookshelf, and a dresser. Filberth chose to remain standing as Reghof walked toward the bed.

"I believe you were about to tell us about the Boss?"

"If you insist," Stefan muttered. He watched with a grimace as Reghof, beginning to sit down on the bed, yelped and stood back up, rubbing his backside. "Sorry sir - I shoulda remembered to tell you 'bout the knives I hide in my home. It's a dangerous area - I need 'em to scare away intruders."

Filberth merely continued to stare at Stefan expectingly.

LOM: Answers Part 2 (7)

Reghof cut in. "The Boss is a name that doesn't get heard much. Normally he goes by some disguise; only the members of his circle call him The Boss. I don't reckon there's anyone who knows his real name, and Stefan might not even know this name. That's what I managed to learn from the man I defeated on The Dragon. Unfortunately, he killed himself before I could get any more information out of him."

"Only members of his circle call his by The Boss?"

"Yep - is somethin' wrong?"

Filberth looked, horrified, to Reghof. "There was an innkeeper up north, in the Blue Shield Inn. He warned me about The Boss. I told him I'd help him. He must have been feigning - he's a clue to where Inigo was taken. If the Innkeeper's close to The Boss, we might be able to get information from him."

Stefan looked at Filberth curiously. "Did I hear the name Inigo? That just happens to be one o' the names I recall associated with The Boss."

Reghof started. "Hold on - Inigo's a member of The Boss's group?"

"In the outer circle, if I recall correctly. Not very tight in there, I s'pose - I believe they were tryin' to get rid of him. Not enough loyalty to the group, if you know what I mean."

"Inigo's father was killed. Inigo was told that he was killed by Darden, but the description he gave me didn't fit the Darden we know. Is there a chance - any possible chance - that Darden had something to do with The Boss?"

"I don' know, to be honest. I only know what I overhear in the shop. There've been some days when I could hear some things, not always useful, but most of the time I don't learn anything new."

Reghof turned to Filberth. "Why lead me to him, of all people? Couldn't any merchant around have overheard something about The Boss? What makes Stefan special?"

"Because Stefan's a criminal. Outlaws aren't gonna stop in big, fancy shops - they're going to go to a shady place like this."

Reghof nodded, satisfied. "There's one thing I'm still wondering. With all your explanation, I still can't really figure out - who exactly is The Boss?"

"The Boss leads a wide criminal organization centered in Mythron that contains a good deal of the corrupt nobles and officials you'll find. His circle stretches toward Rainos, though most of the action is in Mythron. The Boss, strangely enough, is a Mythronian, but he uses his position to take out prominent Mythronians that might stop his quest for power. I've heard rumors that the business is connected to a clan in Rainos, but I don't know much more about that."

Filberth looked toward Reghof, reading his thoughts. "Yes, I want to go investigate this clan too...but rescuing Inigo comes first. We can't delay our quest - I wouldn't be surprised if they try to dispose of them."

Stefan cut in. "I happen to know a man we could send to Rainos to do some investigating. If you want, I'm sure he'd be willing."

"Who is this man you speak of?"

"You're looking right at him."

Part 3:

LOM: Answers Part 2 (Main)

It was the night after Stefan had left for Rainos. Filberth and Reghof had been walking by his shop, well after closing time, when they heard noise inside.

They crept inside the shop on the lower floor, listening to the voices coming from the bedroom.

"He's not here. Everything of value is gone, and everything else is orderly - too orderly for someone like Stefan. I'm telling you, he went and ran out on us before he could pay us."

"Well then, what are we supposed to do? Steal money from someone on the street to give the Boss what he's expecting? We can't afford to not pay the Boss."

The Boss! Filberth started, realizing that these men were part of the Boss's organization.

"There's a supply shipment coming into Meids tomorrow. With any luck, some of those merchants expecting their goods won't be getting them."

Filberth and Reghof exchanged glances at this new piece of information. If only they could get to the officials in time, perhaps they could foil these men's plans.

Note: Since Brick hasn't posted the new rank challenges yet, Gilbert said I could use the current guild founder challenge (Notable Mythronian) to get this rank...

Anyway, this was a quick(ish) build to introduce some story (quite a lot actually - there's a lot of text per picture...) and to try out a small interior. The dresser in the bedroom, inspired by LL Lolino's design, might be my favorite part. Some of the timber framing up there was quite difficult too.

My main goal for this build was to make it as accurate as possible to Part 1. The upper floor is a bit taller, but other than that everything is the same, also it's the same size (no Tardis syndrome!)

For those of you who don't care about the story and just want to see the build, here's some figless shots so you can better see the details (3 figs in a build this small means it's hard to see most of the actual build...)

Nice! I really like how you strove to make it look like the interior of the Part 1 - and you succeeded for sure. Neat techniques and feel overall.

That's a lovely interior. The upstairs room is perfect, especially with the rafters, and the non-Tardisism is impressive.

Quoting David . No, the chest right beside the Bed. Even I've used the Bookshelf before. :P (and I was talking about the shelves downstairs with the knives and cups) I suppose they aren't REALLY techniques, but they could be filed somewhere in that drawer. ;)
Yeah, like I said, the chest/dresser beside the bed is LL Lolino's design. And I doubt you've used the bookshelf design with http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2921 to offset the books...

Quoting David . Lel, I wrote that comment before any comments after Grants, but I didn't post it till about half an hour later. I was mainly talking about the shelf and the chest. (dresser. thing.)
Oh :P Like I said, the dresser is pretty much LL Lolino's design, and the bookshelf (or do you mean the shelves in the shop? Same thing applies) is really simple, not really a technique.

Quoting ~ Brick Nice work! I want to apologize for getting behind on my LOM work, and for neglecting to judge your MOC-Off with Stephen. I could give a host of excuses, but it mainly comes down to me trying to avoid any brain work recently:P

Quoting David . Very nice! There's a few new (but fragile) techniques that (for once. :P ) look simple! @Grant Halhi pretty much never takes full build photos of something that isn't a full build. :P (AKA what you see is what is fully primed and polished, and thus the rest would detract from what you've seen)
Actually I'm not sure there's any new techniques here other than the way I offsetted the books on the bookshelf - the dresser is based on LL Lolino's design and I wouldn't consider the diagonal wood flooring a technique since it's just loose photos. Oh, and I added that last photo for Grant (originally all I had were the story photos and the four right after), but you're right, my interiors aren't designed to be viewed in an overall shot or even in real life :P
