Bio-Cup 2014 R2: Burrowing Jarama
My entry to R2 of the 2014 Bio-Cup, against Super Pikmin
About this creation
Wazzap guys!

My entry to the second round of the Bio-Cup, against my esteemed opponent, Super Pikmin , and his glorious White Lobster .

Ok so if you're not a big bug fanatic, chances are you'll not like this guy. But fear not, for this fearsome hybrid between a mantis, a burrowing wasp, and a scorpion, will put all your nightmares to rest...right after it murders you!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Jokes aside, here's my cool-looking insect-thingy :P

The wings can be opened and folded back, and can flutter by pressing down on the gear.

Link to the functions video
Functions include: folding and fluttering wings, closeable mandibles and a stinger tail.

Fourth Wall of Wonders

So a little bit about the MOC
Firstly, the name is supposed to be a combination between Jaga and Rama, insinuating the fact that this specimen is a hybrid.
I had starting building on the very first day of the second round, and spent the first few days prototyping the wing mechanism. I finished working on this bad boy several hours from now. The mandible, while surprisingly successful, was the last mechanism added to this creation. I gotta say I'm in love with this big bad bug, and I hope you guys share my opinion!

Well that's it for today, peeps! Stay tuned for more coming soon, and best of luck to my opponent, Super Pikmin, and everyone else participating in the Cup!

The way you built the wing function to make it look so natural in the abdomen is great! Looks fearsome!

Quoting Declan Muller This thing is really cool! I like the use of the phantoka eye-shields as the eyes.
Thanks! Glad you like it!

I'll be honest - I actually was in quite a rush earlier, and failed to notice the video link. I regret that, as the functions on this are actually pretty sweet. If vote-switching is allowed (as I assume it is...) then I'm going to swap to you. Still very close, though.

Quoting [ Chro ] Man, Mo. So close. Both you and Pik have excellent-looking MOCs without much in the way of function (although what you do have seems good). In light of the fact that neither MOC seems really oriented around the round theme (the functions are the main point, basically), I'm going to go with the one that just looks better overall, which is Pikmin's lobster, if not by much. Sorry dude. Good luck. :)
I guess the video did not seem to bring the functions enough attention, which, surprisingly, I had based the entirety of the build on. The shaping of the torso area was solely such that it accommodated the wing mechanism. Even the mechanism of the mandibles looks a lot more interesting in person. The tail, I would say, is probably the lamest part of the functionality aspect, but you would sympathize if you saw how disappointing my collection is. In any case, I'm happy for Pikmin. He should be able to churn out some truly outstanding entries for this cup. Thanks, Ben.

Quoting Yuri Fassio Pikmin's entry is stunning as a display piece, you certainly made the better toy. My vote goes to you.
Thanks, Yuri. Truly appreciate your uplifting comment :')

Kill it with fire! A vicious looking bug with so many pointy edges. The functions are great, but my vote goes to Pikmin. Good luck with the other judges!

Quoting Toa Infernum Another two awesome builds! Both incorporated awesome functions, as well as using a creative form, never thought I'd see a lobster built for this round! Mohamed, I love the way the eyes on your entry contrast with the rest of the build, very dynamic! What I don't like is the unrefined look some parts of the build have, like the gunmetal piece on his belly, red balljoints, and the mix of yellows. Pikmin, I love everything about your entry! I see no flaws, so Pikmin gets my vote!
There's no gunmetal on my entry whatsoever. That piece you saw was black, but it's probably the lighting on the photos that showed it that way. Anyways, I get what you mean by the red ball joints and red pegs, but I wanted it to be as similar to an insect as possible, and those occasionally tend to have some discolored patches on them. But thanks for your critique. Will definitely try to improve my lighting and background in the future :)
