VW T1 'The Magic Bus'
Sorry, the Z1 and M3 are on the waiting list. But I think I came up with something much better. MUCH better.
About this creation

  1. Real Car Presentation :

  2. In 2007, Volkswagen held a concert of ‘The Who’ in Germany. One of their most famous song; an anthem for Volkswagen drivers, is ‘Magic Bus’. After the concert, Volkswagen decided to create a real ‘Magic Bus’, based on the VW T1. This is what came out.
The exterior was designed by Richard Evans, the Who's art director. The Magic Bus is also autographed inside by Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and Richard Evans, 3 of the 4 members of the Who.
The money earned after the sell was donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust of which Roger Daltrey is a patron.
My personal point of view: best VW T1 ever.

  3. My first idea:

  4. During the last months, I became a “The Who” fan. I first had in mind to create an album cover of one of their albums. But then I remembered this famous T1, and decided to build it in Lego.

  5. Three steps to the final ‘product’:

  6.  Build set 10220 on LDD. I found no prebuild LDD file of it. This took me about 5 hours. I used the build plans of my 10220, which made it a lot more easier.
 Transform 10220 into a panel van. More complicated than you think. It took me 2h.
 Transform my panelvan into ‘The Who’s’ one. As well, I needed 2h.

  7. The final product:

  8. I used as a basis, as said, set 10220 (VW t1 camper). The chassis, the front, the back and the cabin are mainly the same. The roof and the interior are entirely rebuild. It has:
    - Opening Doors
    - Opening hood and engine cover
    - Detailled interior and exterior
I also added some very precise details, such as the bumpers.

The Who are also known for destroying their instruments after a concert... Here is my interpretation

To finish: here is the song: “Magic Bus”, performed by The Who; Live a Leeds

I really thank you for watching & reading.
Please do not forget to comment and rate my creation; I would be very glad! 8-)

Yann

Quoting Michael Bobrischew What a great build-The detail is amazing- I also appreciate how complete your page is- keep on building!
Thanks Michael! Yes, it was quite a hommage to "The Who" and their Magic Bus ;-)

Quoting Digital Dreams I saw this on a google search for VW stuff back when I was building my Autostadt but been so busy with builds lately I've only just got around to looking at it here. The renders looks great, and what you've done with the colour scheme is superb - very striking, and very British!
Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad that a builder like you liked my bus ;-)

Quoting David Roberts I love the brick-built Union Flag on the roof. What a technical challenge to produce that! Perhaps you could try a Welsh flag, with its dragon next? Cymru am byth!
Thanks! I won't go into flags, but I agree, a welsh flag can be great on the roof 8-)

Slaut Tom! Merci pour ton commentaire. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas été à Nancy depuis 10 ans ... Ce n'était donc pas moi (peut-être mon double?) ;-)

Quoting Jake Grahn Nice T1! Quite close to the real thing I see. The roof looks like it was the hardest part to build. I don't know much about the band but because of your VW, I'll take a look. Anyway, it's good to see from you.
Hey Jake thanks for your very nice comment! And yes the roof was the hardest! and google or youtube the who. If you like old 70s rock, you will adore them ! 8-)

Quoting david drake that last photo is a riot! But you'd have to make an awful lot of money to just smash a beautiful VW like that. Great work on a challenging multi-colored roof design!

Quoting Jet Best This is so cool! I really like the roof, the bumpers and the colour scheme. But there is one thing..... This is a T2 split rather than a T1, because the beetle was the T1.....
Dear jet, I know you will me amazed by this! but the VW numbering is a bit complex. The Beetle isn't the T1, but the Type 1. My bus is a type 2 T1. You are definitivelly a VW expert, but this is how I understood it (I took some weeks to understand it ...). Thanks for commenting! 8-)

Quoting Sato NL Looks good, Not a fan of The Who but I can appreciate your redesign of this set. I am surprised you couldn't find an existing LDD file for 10220, Because there is one on the Eurobrick.com forums in the 'Lego sets made in LDD' topic. I know this because I used it last week to attempt to make a VW T1 pickup truck alternate out of the set, Which was a success and it will be uploaded here on Mocpages as soon as I've taken photo's of the brickbuild version.
Thanks Sato! There are may be files on the internet, but some download pages are not really sure. And building it myself was easier for the changings. I had not a lot of pieces to delete. And I hope yours will come soon, because I can't wait!! 8-)
