LEGO made a fine attempt at the giant spiders of Mirkwood, but I wanted to build what I first envisioned while reading the book. A monstrosity black to the heart and more ominous than an assassin's ghost. Without doubt this is my best 16X16 vignette ever, so please tell me if you agree. Enjoy!
About this creation
2000 Vignettes.

(In celebration of passing the 2000 members milestone and becoming the largest group on MOCpages, the Fellowship of the Brick invites the entire MOCpages community to share in a fantastical undertaking! The objective is for the community to collaboratively produce an impressive archive of 2000 8x8 and/or 16x16 Middle Earth themed vignettes over the next year! Ridiculous? Yes. Unrealistic? Absolutely. But the same was said of Frodo's quest to destroy the Ring, so come and join the fun!)

The MOC~
Bilbo Baggins, cloaked by the power of the One Ring, scurries along the Elven Road picking off his foes one by one. A frustrated spider comes to yet another dead-end, blind to the deadly Sting that awaits him.

Bilbo vs. Freddy, the Spider!

The invisible Hobbit readies his sword for the fatal thrust.

The Web.

Figless~
Like taking a cookie-cutter to Mirkwood, or that was the idea at least. No wed here because it actually comes from the spider. I'm quite proud of the tree as well, and it is very large by my standards.

Stump. We can still see the jagged fibers left when the tree fell.

The old Elven Road hidden in the undergrowth.

The Spider~(Freddy)
The main event, the grand finale, and the reason I built this whole thing. I couldn't be happier with how he turned out!

He carries a TON of web!

Turn the crank on his belly to retract the web, then flip the hook under his abdomen for sleek and concealed storage.

Well, do you like my new pet? All your comments are much appreciated, so comment away!

Quoting Mr. Cab This has got to be your best vignette yet. I love the ghost Bilbo and the retracting function on the spider. The trees are very well done, too, and the jagged fibers sticking out of the stump are a great detail that not many people would include. Awesome work!
I have to agree. I would really like for this to get among my most popular creations. Excellent, I was hoping to get some feedback about that stump since it is an experimental concept. I appreciate it, Mr. Cab, big thanks to you.

Quoting Evan Botkin Love it! That tree is awesome! The Spider is cool and reminiscent of Shelob with the retractable webbing. Invisible Bilbo is very cool. I didn't even notice him at first =P
Thank you, Evan! That is a feature I simply had to include.

Awesome! As you said in FOB this is definitely one of your best vigs ever, if not your best. The part of it I like most is your great spider design!
