Lianyu is a very old and very wise toa. He is among the very oldest of the toa and other beings that operate out of the Holy Island of Korrothis. The island came to be a holy site due to its location almost directly beneath the Mata-Nui robot's heartlight, between the North and South Continents. A council of Elemental Lords was appointed by Mata-Nui in the Beginning Time to help regulate the Weave (the complex harmony of the elements keeping the Matoran Universe running), and while different individuals have come and gone since the beginning time, Korrothis has persisted even to outlive the world that birthed it.

Lianyu was once a Bo-Matoran living on the area of land on the Southern Continent that would later break away to form Voya Nui during the Great Cataclysm. He was adept with both living plants and machinery, and spent much of his matoran life making and fixing agricultural equipment, before he was transformed into a toa by one of his own botanical experiments.

As a Toa, he would go on to create all of his tools, armour and other equipment using a highly advanced form of that same technology. His Toa Tool, the Sepal Sword, allows him to channel his powers over Plantlife in a lot of ways, including spreading vines, seeds, spores, attracting and controlling insects, rapidly growing roots and even firing bolts of solar energy.

His backpack holds a pair of semi-autonomous Madu Cabolo launchers. The fruit explode and spray acid when exposed to his elemental energy, allowing him to make timed detonations or harness the burst for something more constructive using his powers.

When in situations where he daren't risk his precious Toa Tool, Lianyu wields a pair of leaf daggers, though the situation is very rare one now where he can't solve a problem unarmed, as he has excellent control over his element and has become very wise.

Lianyu had only been a toa for a few weeks when he received a vision from Mata Nui, summoning him to Korrothis. He was not the only one summoned, either. Lianyu was there when Mata-Nui formed the Elemental Council. Two makuta became the lords of light and shadow, and each had three elemental lords under them. Lianyu, along with Atarangi, Ia and three other toa became Mata-Nui's personal toa team, the Archons of Life.

So Lianyu remained for centuries, in service to the Holy Island of Korrothis. The religion of Weavism spread to nearly every island in the matoran universe, helped in no small part by the teams of elemental archons who worked on behalf of the Elemental Lords. Lianyu would train new toa of Plantlife who came to the island seeking to control their power and help maintain balance.

Lianyu also maintained a close connection with his home village, becoming hailed as a sort of eccentric celebrity...

...until...

When Makuta Teridax sent Mata-Nui crashing into Aqua Magna, the Great Cataclysm rocked the entire universe. Lianyu's hometown was destroyed as Voya Nui separated from the Southern Continent, the Weave went haywire, and many of the inhabitants of Korrothis died due to being too sensitive to the fluctuations.

Bedbound for days afterwards as the fires and floods raged, Lianyu finally managed to focus himself. He and the other five Archons of Life banded together to solve one of the greatest problems facing the dying universe; the malfunction of the Red Star. Half of his team fused to form the entity known as Drothmarr, who would take on the solemn duty of ferrying the deceased spirits of the matoran universe to the afterlife.

After this, Lianyu joined the Archons of Light under Makuta Deciphus (Balin) and his comerades joined the Archons of Shadow. Lianyu is one of the few individuals who knows anything about Drothmarr, and rarely if ever talks about him. Due to his new place in the Light, Lord Inferrax (Nivorn) made Lianyu a shadowy mirror image of his Sepal Sword, to help him maintain balance. Lianyu would go on to become the guardian over Karda Nui and the Swamp of Secrets over the next millenium.

Since the Catacylsm, the Brotherhood of Makuta and Korrothis were forever at odds with one another. Lianyu was once tasked with finding and taking down a makuta named Obsidiakh, only to find a young toa of lightning had beaten him to it. Lianyu and Soleku would later avert disaster by tracking down the remaining members of her toa team to save Korrothis from a weavestorm caused by Varrix.

Lianyu would later help Gringat get Korrothis airborne, along with Atarangi and Krikitt, to help in the fight against the makuta. The Flying Island would eventually carry a group of colonists, Lianyu included, from a newly reformed Spherus Magna to the newly discovered world of Atmos Magna.

-----The 5th Dimension-----

-As most of you probably already know, Lianyu is the (secondary) self-MOC of L.A. Miranda/GoldenArpeggio.

-He's been in production since Christmas. Because university, I haven't been able to finish him until now. Exactly the same pattern as happened with my Krikitt MOC, in fact.

-Here are all of this MOC's weapons. The Dark Sepal Sword is a dig at Dark Lianyu, even though that character doesn't appear in my storyline. The dual Madu Cabolo launchers are based off the "Daikau Plantpack", and Lianyu's Sepal Sword and Moss Shield are designed to resemble their names. I'm quite fond of the sword's design, since it opens up like a flower. :3

-Weird colour scheme is weird.

-Ugly backshot is ugly.

-I got Gelu's helmet to fit on a toa head. In fitting with the Karda Nui theme, Lianyu's eyes are a shadow leech.

-White hands are a dig at L.A.'s real self-MOC, Eruei.

-I chose A World Made for Somebody Else by Akiko Shikata as Lianyu's theme. The tone fits and so do the lyrics!

-Lianyu was actually introduced on Soleku's page quite a long time ago, but I wanted the fact I was building Lianyu to be kept secret so it would be a surprise for L.A. Miranda, so I kept it cryptic.

-Bag is made of this. His cloak is a copy of this made with a bolt of lighter coloured fabric I chose because it looked woven, perhaps as if Lianyu had spun it using plant fibres of his own making.

Anyway, that's that from me for now! No other MOCs to post yet, but I have a lot of WIPs and a lot of time to work on them all! :) Have a good summer everyone unless you live in the southern hemisphere, in which case, ha, sucks to be you :P.

-Both Atarangi and Obsidiakh are slated to appear in the near-ish future!

For some reason, all your mocs look like real beings than just mocs. By Gringat's tremendous beard, well done.

Quoting Lego Obsessionist Well done with the weapons and cloth details (though it is a pity the cape isn't purist).
Trust me, the MOC was originally purist, but I found the Matthias cape unusable because it's picked up a few unsightly stains over the years. I built the MOC to have that cape, and I made this new one as a direct copy of the old.

<3 I would ask permission to utilize the technique used for the mask... if I had the mask to utilize this simple but incredibly effective technique.

How on earth a MOC with so many green colors AND white manages to look this good, I don't know. For some reason the three lime spikes on the plant element on each leg really tickle me, they're such a small but cool-looking detail. BRILLIANT helmet solution- is it just hanging on by friction between the "mouth" of the helmet and the lime cheese grater? On second look, I don't think so... Well done with the weapons and cloth details (though it is a pity the cape isn't purist).

I must say that the colors on this MOC work beautifully together. The piece on the mask is quite a cool idea IMO. I like the greebling on this MOC too, it's not overdone or underdone. The canvas bag is also a cool addition of equipment to the MOC, the way the piece is used is quite awesome, I have not seen any MOCers use that piece in that way or use that piece at all. Overall it's a great revamp and it's visually stunning. :)

Quoting Critical MOCer I have quite a few complaints about this MOC, and I am going to phrase them as politely as I can. There is no blue in the color-scheme, even though he's supposed to be (or at least, to my understanding) a Toa of Plantlife, who are supposed to be green and blue, and this guy is green, white and gold. Also, he's kind of messy, but that can be excused sometimes. Something that really bugs me however is the Lego piece stuck in his mask. Anyway, just some food for thought. It's your MOC, do what you will with it. Also, MOC don't mock.
Actually his colour scheme is green and grey, with trans-blue and trans-green highlights. The white is a superficial colour reflecting garments worn over his armour. As for the rest I guess it's just up to personal taste.

Nice work! Some parts of him look kinda messy between the colors and the greebles, but I suppose that goes with the territory of being a Toa of Plantlife. I like the sword!

Surprisingly, I was just thinking I hadn't seen from you in a while. This makes up for any and every thing I could have possibly thought. A really great build, well done.

I believe that you have yet to be exposed to my penchant criticality, so here goes... my main issue with this MOC is that the system greebling, which works well on system MOCs, ends up cluttering the MOC up here. Most system usage on BIO-MOCs ends up working badly in my eyes, and though I have seen some of your greeblework that comes out rather well, it's not the case here.

Okey... Let's try again. <3 My my, dear! I'm SO surprised and pleased with this! Every time I see someone praising a creation of mine I feel so happy, and every time someone creates a member of my species (like the Etherian), the happiness makes me to dance around. So, try to imagine me when someone builds my self-MOC! <3<3<3 Love the happiness, the expectation, the hype these kind of surprises give. And of course it's great when you're the one who receives them! Thank you so much, dear. And not only for the fact you built Lianyu, but for the great amount of detailing you put into the MOC! Your own versions of my old weapons (right now I only keep both Sepal Swords =P), the dig at the Dark version of Lianyu with the second Sepal Sword and at Eruei with the "gloves", the amazing story (which, by the way, has some similitudes with the original one), the music theme (another 'by the way' here, it fits waaaaay perfect with him. Should have know that song before, and I would have used it as its main theme)... Even, you used some parts and concepts that I had sketched for the Mirai version of him! Though, I don't know how yet, but the face design you came up with would be very useful for the head concept, if you allow me to use it ;3 Anyways, now onto the build! I have to agree that the color scheme is a bit weird, but I like the combination of gold and lime green. Similar colors can be found quite often in plants around here. The legs' armoring is something I really enjoyed, specieally the use of those leaves and cheesy slopes, but also the lack of symmetry with the upper armor and those 1x1 plates trapped on the sides of the Inika legs. And the loincloth. Everybody loves the loinclothes. The torso looks quite good and I like it, specially the use of the Hf bones, but I have to admit that the back doesn't look quite good... Though it doesn't look that bad, and since it's covered with the cape, I don't mind about it. The arms are the thing that don't convince me too much, I mean, they actually look good on the MOC, but I never liked too much those grey HF bones with such a... 'lively' color like lime green. Well, probably I shouldn't say anything like this considering that you took the time and effort to build my self-MOC, but I feel like being honest should be the less I could do, right? Back to the MOBC: the head, as I already stated (did I?), looks great and it's probably the best thing of the whole MOC. Probably. The Sepal Swords are also too cool, they even open. And the sack. <3 Well, I think I elonged this comment a bit too much already. To sum up, love the NPU and technics you used on this MOC, and of course, the fact that it's MY self-MOC, he he. Really dear, thanks a lot for this, it makes me reaaaaally happy <3

Looks good. I like that you used that Indiana Jones tent as a satchel. The plant leaves on the lower legs look good as well. My only complaint is the lower arms, they just don't look that great. Otherwise, nice work.

Wow. Just... wow. I am beginning to understand more fully just how complicated your "Weaverse" is. This story for Lianyu is really long, but well worth reading. I hope you have some sort of wiki or giant page that actually document your whole story. As for the build itself, it is much more aesthetically pleasing to view from the front. The back is kinda... ouch.(I'll put it there). Back of the legs and lower arms aren't bad, but that torso. But at the same time I am just now considering that the addition of the Madu Cabolo launchers may improve the back aesthetic(great interpretation of the plantpack btw). Lianyu does look really good, but also somewhat hodgepodge at the same time. His feel changes a lot just from the transition of the lower legs to the upper legs. I'm not entirely sure I like the grill piece there on his face, at some angles and times I do and others I don't. The weapons in general really look cool, they have a great appearance and fit their needs for the theme.

Wow, this is really spectacular! Good to see you honor a respectable builder like L.A. Miranda, he certainly deserves it. It does seem odd that such an old wise character would have so many toys to protect himself, but hey, it's definitely an original character idea. Great work! Also, I have a couple voice roles for you, but you never seem to be on Skype anymore. If you're still interested, lemme know.
