The Rise and Fall of Orthanc
In celebration of passing the 2000 members milestone and becoming the largest group on MOCpages, the Fellowship of the Brick invites the entire MOCpages community to share in a fantastical undertaking! The objective is for the community to collaboratively produce an impressive archive of 2000 8x8 and/or 16x16 Middle Earth themed vignettes over the next year! Ridiculous? Yes. Unrealistic? Absolutely. But the same was said of Frodo's quest to destroy the Ring, so come and join the fun!
About this creation
Hey everyone,

Here is another vignette for the 2000 vignettes challenge over on the Fellowship of the Brick.

This one is a micro-scale model of the Tower of Orthanc, Saruman's home. It's designed so that you can change the scene surrounding Orthanc by merely flipping the vig upside down and then placing the pieces for the next scene inside the base.

This was a lot of fun to build and I would like to thank my brother for his help designing it.

I hope you enjoy!

Criticism and comments are much appreciated.

Have a good night and thanks for viewing!

~Mark

It's amazing how you captured this part of the movie in such a small package. It really brings back memories from the movie. I love that you can rearrange it to the different stages. Great build!

This Reminds me of one of my old MOCs I Built http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=381363&id=/user_images/82143/1392520920m The detail on the tower looks SUPERB!

Quoting Nathan Pownell Wow, this is really cool! I love how you can change the scene. :) I think that instead of getting smaller at the bottom, it should get bigger. That's just my opinion. :)
Thanks Nathan! Yeah, I agree that it should have gotten bigger, both for looks and structural integrity. ;)
Quoting Deus "Big D." Otiosus I do not like how the tower looks with the narrowed base. I know it is probably because of landscape panel exchange, but that could easily be fixed by taking the tower off when changing the ground.
The tower can be removed very easily, actually. I agree that the narrowed bottom looks rather bad. I tried a few different pieces for the bottom, but then it looked way too bulky. This way, it looks a little sleek at least. ;) Thanks for the feedback!
