After long months of building (off and on I guess), it's finally finished. Introducing my biggest MOC ever! Mir Gruthil, City of the Strong, which I do believe is my best. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy! :D
Sorry for the bad picture. It looked good on the camera...
Okay, funny story behind this orc's death. Notice how close the killer is? Well, me and my older brother were playing the Return of the King video game during Christmas break. He picked up a spear and waited for the orc to come within arms length (well, Gimli's arm length in the game). To make a long story short, my older brother pretty much just threw/thrust the spear into the orc. The spear nearly went clean through and the orc fell over dead. We laughed so hard at that (though you may not see what's so funny) for quite a while. Anyway, back to the castle.
The castle without the figs. As you can see, there are a lot of rocks (probably one of my favorite things to build). I think they turned out very well. This was also my first attempt at panel rockwork. Oh, and I decided not to do any olive cheese. It just didn't seem to fit in. And there aren't any brown or tan either. I wanted it to be as mountainous as possible.
I built little rooms behind the walls where archers could fire through the slits in the walls (see battle pictures).
You can take the top off, revealing the rooms underneath.
If only I had enough pieces... I could have finished the other side. Oh well.
Now for a bunch of work in progress pics. As you can see, the rocks on the right changed twice and the base was much shorter in the beginning.
Thanks to everyone who helped it reach 50 and appear on the Explore page!
And then on the Homepage!
One last awesome shot of this awesome castle.
So I really like castles. You'll probably see more big castles from me in the future. As Mark of Falworth said: "You'll never want to build anything else again!" Of course, I might build other stuff, but right now that's the only thing I'm interested in.
wow man that really is an awesome castle! I absolutely love your fantastic rock work and also the stairs/entrance. Nice use of the hinges on the wall, too. But, I'd have to say my favorite part was the ladders! They look awesome! Also the way you set up the figs in the battle scene was cool. Rockin' MOC!
Amazing work, Professor! That's your best yet! I love those rocks and that wall is great! The posing isn't out of this world but it's not bad either. The gate is nice and those flags in the wall are a nice touch. Great overall work! 5/5 I'm gonna do a Helm's Deep that's a bit like that in a couple weeks. :) Thanks for the great ideas. XD
Wow! I am deeply impressed. The castle looks a bit bare and colorless without minifigures, but with the figures, it looks absolutely amazing. The rocks are great, all the action-posing is wonderful, and it is just generally a really well-done build. Nice job!
This is awesome. I love everything about it. Return of the king game is one of the most fun games I've ever played. My bro and I played it when it first came out non-stop.(Gimli was my fav.) We had a lot of funny moments also with that game. This build is mega good, keep it up!!
Man, this is awesome! Great work on the landscaping flowing well around the castle. The wall details are great! I like how you used the hinge pieces at the top. Great minifigure posing as well. Definitely my favorite from you so far. Very well done!
Wow!! That's Awesome!! I love the wall! It looks Amazing!! The Rocks are cool to!! Funny story!! :) This is your best creation you've made my far! Great job on it!!! Keep up all your good work! Your an amazing builder! :)
Really Nice Castle. I like the character posing and it is nice to see a build without any greenery. I like the inset door on the front and Its nice to see that you took the time to build an interior. Great job!
The rockwork is pretty awesome, and they look much better without olive cheese. Despite the effect caused by the lack of green, I can't help but imagine what this castle would look like refitted for peacetime with some grass and plants and banners and happy peasants. That brings me to the one part of the MOC that I would change, if possible - Those flat, horizontal spaces in the landscaping would look best colored for some sort of soil cover, possibly a bare brown.
Fantastic work! Love those rocks! Here's a little critique, if you don't mind. :) Overall, it's kind of a colorless build, without the olive green leaves and ladders, it would be completely grey, so some little accent colors would be nice.
