LOM UC Entry: Defeating the Black Lotus
Thanks to Armon for editing the main picture!
About this creation
"It was once again a dark day. The last time the Black Lotus had attacked it had been a month, the weather was the same, the emotions were the same...it was if they carried a darkness with them. This time the full might of the armies would clash, many a lives would be loss for their loyalties. There was a silver lining though, for after this bloody battle there would be no more fighting between the Black Lotus and Mytron."

1
Sir Kindle: "Alright! Let's speed this up!"

Sir Markus: "Calm down Sir, the Black Lotus are miles away right now. We have plenty of time."

2
Engineer: "Yes sir! My men will have the catapult set up in a few minutes!"

Sir Kindle: "Very well, I'm still a bit shaken from the last attack. I haven't even had time to visit my brother!"

3
The three men gathered as the workers set up the catapult, anxiously waiting for a test fire;it was of most importance that the catapult was operational before the attackers arrived.

4
The soliders preformed their morning exercises. They had to be in top form for the approaching battle.

5
All was not right though, as there was a whisper in the bushes. They were being watched!

6
Unfortunately the two knights could not wait for the catapult, they were ordered to disembark to a smaller village come the tenth hour of the day. For it was not only the castle that was going to be attacked, but also the villages. They had to make sure everything was set.

Sir Kindle: "Hurry up Sir Markus! We don't have much time!"

7
Stable Keeper: "Best of luck Sirs! I would join you if I could, but I have many a chores to finish this morning."

Sir Markus: "Thank you, we should be back soon!"

8
The men galloped off, determined, but their minds were slowly being consumed with thoughts of death, pain, and loss.

9
Meanwhile inside the castle walls....

Duke: "No! I will not leave when my manor needs me most. The Black Lotus will be here within the hour, or so says our spies."

Wizard: "But Sir, I am only thinking of your safety. Sir Kindle will do a fine enough job leading the troops, and Sir Markus is quite competent as well!"

10
The men headed outside to view the progress on the catapult. It was nearly ready for the ferocious battle.

11
The Duke trudged towards the commanding officer, with the engineer coming closer as well.

Duke: "Are your soldiers ready to fight, sir?"

Commander: "Indeed sir! We are ready to fight for Father Mythron!"

12
Engineer: "Excuse me for interrupting, but I have heard word that the Black Lotus is attacking villages a few miles south. I suggest we send our troops to stop them!"

Duke: "Who has given you this information?"

Engineer: "What does that matter!? We must move quickly!"

Commander: "Give the world and we shall head south!"

Duke: "Fine."

14
With that the troops headed for the village south of the castle. They would need to move quickly to reach the Black Lotus scum.

15
Soldiers: "THE CATAPULT IS READY SIR!"

Duke: "Ahh, finally! Let us see a demonstration!'

Engineer: "Quite, let us see my handy work..."

16
The workers readied the catapult for firing, Silently admiring their handy work...

18
Just as the workers were about to fire, two horses came rushing down the road. Two worried knights rode atop them, trying to mutter a few words while catching their breathe.

Sir Markus: "T-The Black Lotus!"

Sir Kindle: "T-they are only a few yards away *deep breathe* we must hurry! Where are the troops?"

Duke: "In the south village, they were heading to reenforce you."

Sir Kindle: "South village? We have come from the west village!"

19
Duke: "B-But..."

Engineer: "Excuse me! I must take my leave now."

Duke: "Wait one moment! Why did you tell me-

Engineer: "Terribly sorry, good bye."

The engineer shuffled past the men and dashed into the castle wall.

20
Sir Markus: "I strongly suggest we ask questions later and ready our what troops we have."

Sir Kindle: "Agreed, I will do my best to defend the castle!"

22
Duke "Quickly then!

23
Lower the gate!

24
Raise the drawbridge!"

25
Sir Markus took control of the catapult, he would be responsible for ordering when to fire...it was a strenuous job in any battle.

26
While Sir Kindle went to the front lines to defend the great weapon.

27
And the archers drew their arrows from their quivers, tensing their fingers as they pulled back their bows. Ready to fire at a moment's notice.

28
Behind the fortified wall stood the Engineer and Wizard, mumbling whispers as they walked...

Wizard: "Our plan has been a success!"

Engineer: "Yes! You shall deal with the Duke as I make my escape."

Wizard: "Indeed."

29
Outside the dense wall, the two armies began clashing as they had only thirty days ago.
The fierce and brave charged forward first, while the smart and nimble waited for the grunts to be taken out.

Black Lotus Leader: "MYTRHON. TODAY I WILL TAKE YOUR KINGDOMS NECK, AND BREAK IT! AND YOUR TYRANNY WILL END!"

Sir Kindle: "I WOULD RATHER DIE PROTECTING MY KINGDOM AND MY PEOPLE, THEN SUBMIT TO A HEINOUS DEMON SUCH AS YOURSELF!"

30
Suddenly, a voice more thunderous than any of the battle cries broke the conflict.

Wizard: "TODAY I TAKE THE HEAD OF THIS DUKE, AND THE BLACK LOTUS WILL TAKE THE HEAD OF MYTHON!"

The Duke lay there, unconscious. He had been magically lifted to a section of the castle rarely used. He could do nothing to defend himself.

31
The blade hit the Duke's neck with dark power. His head was severed, and quickly fell into the moat's water below. The Black Lotus had now cut into deep roots, any mercy that was felt for their cause was now none existent...the soldiers are Mythron wanted only triumph and
victory!

32
Sir Kindle felt angry, more angry than ever before. He thrust forward, jabbing his blade into the stomach of a Black Lotus vermin.

33
He jumped on top of another ragged piece of filth! Slaughtering him like a worthless hog.

34
And in a last push of victory, he sliced threw the back of yet another warrior.

35
Just when the battle seemed to calm, a lone Orc charged forward. Straining himself while pulling a large object.

36
The Black Lotus had brought a siege tower! And where there is a siege tower there is certainly more soldiers.

37
Sir Markus: "FIRE!"

Soldier: "YES SIR!"

It was two little too late though, the boulder flew right over the siege tower. It appeared the catapult was a bit too powerful.

38
Sir Kindle: "PUSH THE CATAPULT BACK!"

Solider: "HUH?"

Sir Markus: " DO AS HE SAID!"

39
Sir Kindle's strategy was brilliant, he turned the catapult into a blockade. Now they could stop the siege tower fro reaching the wall, and breaching the castle.

40
It was then that the Stable Keeper saw an opportunity, to be more than a serf, but to fight for his kingdom!

Stable Keeper: "FOR MYTHRON!"

41
He bravely darted towards an outlaw, he was actually almost a fine warrior for nearly never fighting in his life.

42
The Stable Keeper dashed up the siege tower, he was headed right for the top!

43
There before him stood the Black Lotus general, he was so unaware. He was so caught up in the battle, and so concerned with his loyalties. Was it right for him to end the life of another man, who was simply honoring his kingdom. The Stable keeper could hesitate no longer.

45
He leaped forward with all his strength!

Stable Keeper: "FOR FATHER MYTHRON!"

46
Victory was his! He knocked the man off the tower's bridge, and stood tall for all to see.

Stable Keeper: "FIGHT ONWARD MY BRETHREN! FOR MYTRHON!"

47
Sir Kindle saw the mans bravery, surely they could see this battle!
he nodded in the man's direction.

Sir Kindle: "FOR MYTHRON!"

48
Alas, the newly recognized hero did not see nor hear the archer behind him. And so his life was taken just as he had taken the life of the Black Lotus leader...silently and without warning...

49
The Mythronian troops pushed over the catapult, their battle cries louder than ever! The adrenaline coursed threw their bodies like fire raging through a forest!

51
Narrowly, and even more narrowly then before...Mythron had won the day. They could only hope their fellow people have survived the attack.

Commander: "Is anyone is need of help?"

Sir Kidnle "Troops. Sift threw the battle for our fallen!"

53
All had been settled, or so it seemed. For silently the engineer escaped from the Mythronians. Claiming that one day he would have Sir Kindle's head on a plate.

THE END

Now for some extra pics!

55
Look Kai, a sneaky Black Lotus! :P

My custom wabbit design! I wove it so much!

61
A tree, but one of my favorites!

62
Do to poor planning on my part, the back wall has much more detail than the front. Still, you can enjoy it! ;)

I Came, I saw, I Conquered.

Smashing the Fourth Wall:
I'm glad I'm getting this done finally! (Unlike my last UC which will never have a fourth wall) This build was born out of my desire to try some more advanced textures after ganging many new detail pieces from Brick Fair NE. The textures turned out to be the easiest part, well maybe not. After some experimenting I knew what I wanted to do, but I over estimated the size of my collection and had to slack off on some of the detail. I apologize for that. The hardest parts of this MOC was getting the draw bridge and gate to work properly...it seems simple in concept but actually designing it was a bit tough. Another challenging part of the MOC was the landscape and vehicles. The landscape was very challenging because I wanted to avoid doing a plain grass field like some of my other MOCs had, while I also wanted to keep the landscape at least a little interesting/unique. The game changer for this area was the trees. For the first time I ever I used dark brown plates and tiles and I think it made them look great! As for the vehicles, those weren't as much of a challenge. The catapult took about 6-10 hours of designing, with 1-2 hours of revisions. The siege tower took only an hour (if that) as I really didn't seek to accomplish something with that. It was a last minute addition to forward my plot/story.

Well, thanks for reading my rumbling fourth wall of semi-stupidity.

God Bless! I hope you enjoyed!

Quoting Lindel Baskin Fantastic work, Brick! The texturing and foliage in the landscape is fantastic. You've packed a lot of great techniques and detail into this. The moat is excellent, love the muddy banks and foliage around it. Nice architecture on the castle, it has a nice weathered but sturdy look. The story is great as well, engaging and interesting! Well done!

Quoting Joe McGill Personally, I can't see why the critics are criticizing this so much, the wall looks full enough to me. There's some nice texturing and it has a good balance of texture and smooth, shinyness that Mythron has. However, the arrow slits are unrealistically low and the tall wall above the gate looks wierd and a bit bland. The landscape is a bit boring but is broken up by some nice details, such as the 'wabbits' and the very interesting tree. The other side of the wall is unrealistically boring and definitely needs something, some building of some kind, to make it look more like it has a purpose rather than just being a purposeless wall or some sort of 'decoy castle'.
I suppose you're right, I could have put a building of some sort back there.

Excellent work Brick! I don't care if it is flat - there is indeed land out there that is flat. To me, this looks realistic. Sure, not flat may be more interesting, but it doesn't work for battle scenes. Plus, it is parts intensive to cover that much space. The lighting for these photos is really nice. I like the inclusion of the siege tower. I absolutely love the functions though! Especially the gate. Keep up the great work!

No, don't get me wrong, this is still a good MOC, the siege tower, minifigures, and photo angles make it look a lot less plain than before. I used to also like building as big as I could, but after a few big builds for the tourney...I got tired of it. The novelty of "this is big!" wore off and I realized it was more fun to be able to build small MOCs, where I could use piece-intensive techniques and fit in lots of detail everywhere.

Let's take it to LOM, Kai.

Quoting Kai Bernstein You know my thoughts on the build due to the Gnomes group, but...above any and all criticisms I have, the story gets most of my attention. Once again, you staff are destroying the reputation of the Black Lotus that you yourselves carefully, slowly and expertly created. Sorry if I'm harsh, but It's gotten pretty annoying. If you want to make a heroic, stereotypical story of bumbling bad guys, PLEASE use Outlaws. Granted, the Wizard and engineer did their parts well, but everyone else acted just like the guys in your last UC, and in Caleb's last two LOM builds. Downright embarrassing to the BL; completely unworthy.
I'm gonna address this issue once and for all, in all my half asleep and tired glory. The Black Lotus was founded by a group of people (presumably in powerful positions in the Mythronian government) who felt the king had grown corrupt. They kept themselves secret, concealed, and silently have grown in power. It is then that the inner council needed an army, they hired assassins. They searched for the best and sneakiest warriors to do their bidding. But as the army grew and new generals came into power, the regulations got looser. Clumsier, du*ber fighters were hired to simply increase mass and strength. While the best fighters and assassins were kept and used for high ranking missions. Such as Freeling assassinating the king....Once the king had been dealt with, the Black Lotus had accomplished their mission. But the greed and taste of power got to them, then continued their quest until all they wanted was the destruction of Mythron. It is then they called on the masses of the outlaws, as they needed sheer force to topple (or at least attempt to topple) Mythron. So the Inner council does have the very best of assassins at their disposal, but they choose to send their useless thugs into battle to distract Mythron. Who knows, maybe all those assassins are being funneled into something even bigger? ;) AND THAT, Kai, is why the Black Lotus is represented as bubbling outlaws here.
  May 31, 2014
Quoting ~ Brick I suppose this means I won't be getting the Halhi stamp of approval? :P
It gets mine, barely; the build may not be the most unique, but it does look pretty good overall. :P
  May 31, 2014
But why ruin their image with such bumblers, Thomas? They used to be respected, feared. Now they're able to be defeated by anyone, and the Lands all know it.
 I like it
  May 31, 2014
@Kai: That's the point. Most of the bumblers are outlaws or Rainosians that were recruited and trained by the original BL. There is still a core group of assassins and ninjas, but their numbers have grown too much to run the full, 6-year apprenticeships for all the new members.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga This is definitely an impressive scene, and has some nice details like the fence and the rabbits. Overall, though, things just seem too flat. The wall has some bare patches, the catapult isn't very detailed, the siege engine is all the same texture, and the underside of the drawbridge looks far too empty. Also, the story is slightly difficult to follow at times, despite the emotional drama you were clearly striving towards.
Thanks for pointing out the problems, I hope somebody has the solutions:P Anyways, I was trying my best to keep the landscape interesting, but I used all my green plates and all my green bricks. There was nothing else I could do, except maybe cover it in grass...and that isn't ideal. I know the wall wasn't as detailed as it could have been, but once again...I used every part I could. I could have gone with Halhi's suggestions and not done anything for the back wall, but I disliked not having anything behind it. About the catapult. It took a week to design a functioning catapult...and detail went behind function. It does have some interesting features though, like the doubled up wagon wheels. And finally the drawbridge. I'm not /exactly/ sure war you're talking about. The gap seen from the back is impossible to avoid as it needs the room to rotate. If you're referring to the landscaping underneath the drawbridge though, I couldn't do that much. grass would have caused it to not go down all the way, so I just decided to leave it bare. I'm very sorry if this is coming off really defensive, but I'm extremely tired from the story. GOOD NIGHT. :P
