LTC Soundwave V2 Part 1: Soundwave, Lazerbeak, Buzzsaw, Ravage & Ratbat
NOTE: THIS ENTRY TO THE SOUNDWAVE AND SHOCKWAVE CONTEST IS MEANT TO BE A SINGLE ENTRY SPREAD OVER TWO PARTS. BOTH ARE TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT AS THE ENTRY.
About this creation
Well, sorry for my slight inactivity. I haven't been able to build anything lately because of the HUGE year 11 half-yearly exams. This pretty much turned my whole life upside down, and it's probably better explaining it than referring to it. First up, there was studying. I had two essays, two songs (one in a jazz quartet and one a solo piano piece) and an F tonne of studying to do. Then the exams came around. I will be honest; I had plenty of time. The exams usually only took a couple of hours in the day, after which I went home. But then, I was still studying. Even on the days where I could stay at home because there were no exams, I still studied. But, finally, it's all over. For now. I've got two new creations coming your way, or three if you count this two parter. The first is for the Soundwave & Shockwave Contest. I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity, as I was planning on building LTC Soundwave V2 after the other project I was doing anyway, so I just switched them around. As for the other project, I'll get it done before I'll go. Go where, you ask? I'll get to that later. This creation will be in two parts. The first involves Soundwave and four of his six Cassettcons - Lazerbeak, Buzzsaw, Ratbat and Ravage. Part two will feature Rumble and Frenzy as his weapons, the behind-the-scenes look at the prototype and an LDD download. BOTH CREATIONS COUNT AS A SINGLE ENTRY TO THE CONTEST, GOT IT? The other creation of the three is a sort-of custom that I'm making. His alt mode is a helicopter, and a certain fan of mine should know who it is. Yes, Toa of Fire, I'm talking about you. As for where I'm going, well I've got a band tour to go to. The school jazz band is taking a three-day trip to Port Maquarie in two weeks time. This means I'll be totally inactive for a week, or at least three days. I'll try to getThere's no internet, so that's all I can do. Anyway, with that aside, let's move onto the MOC. I hope you enjoy this, as I've put a lot of effort into it.

Well, to start, here we have Soundwave in his vehicle mode. The four Cassettcons form the turret on the top.

I started off by trying to make a take, but eventually he turned out into an army-type vehicle with treads. It's kinda like the Whirlwind from Warhammer 40K.

The mismatched colour scheme on the turret comes from the four Minicons. In part two, Rumble and Frenzy will be able to attach to the sides of it. And remember, FIRRIB (Frenzy Is Red Rumble Is Blue).

The turret can rotate at the bottom 360.

And here's what Soundwave looks like without his turret.

I really enjoy the colour scheme on this. I think it really screams 'Soundwave' to the person looking at it.

And here's Soundwave in his robot mode!

The treads become the really cool details on the shoulders. I remember seeing a fansproject on TFW2005 somewhere, and that inspired me to do something in that style.

Here's a view from the back. There's very little robo-kibble here, as it all becomes the shoulders. There are a few flaps on the back of the arms, but that's all there is.

The head is based on a 1x1 brick with studs on each side. As always, it works really well. I actually got this idea from Chris Roach, but I find he is lacking in the potential used on them. He often forgets to use a 1x1 stud for the eyes, and the details aren't too many in number. Still, everyone's a critic. Besides, he's better at a lot of stuff.

The cool part about the legs is that the back parts of the vehicle become kneeguards. It's kinda funny, by the way, that the windshield becomes the, eh, 'underwear' section (or 'manhood' section, if Soundwave is even a guy. They call him a 'he', but his origins in G1 are shrouded in mystery).

The cavity at the back allows for the head to fold in. Sadly, the head didn't copy over to the vehicle, as it isn't recognised by LDD as a proper building technique. I really hope Lego makes it a legal technique sometime soon, as they use it on many of their models.

And now, onto the Cassettcons (or the Minicons, as I sometimes call them).

There are four main guns on the front, one on the top, and one stored away on the bottom that can fold out and be rotated in any direction.

Here's a view from the back, where Ratbat is stored.

So, now a look at the four individual sections. Each of them transform and have decent articulation. Ravage forms the centre, Ratbat clips onto the back, Buzzsaw goes in the front to form the two main canons and Lazerbeak covers up the top and sides.

First of, Buzzsaw...

...TRANSFORM!

Buzzsaw's key features are the two guns on the top and the saws on the wings.

I thought the saws would be a nice touch to distinguish him from Lazerbeak.

Lazerbeak...

...TRANSFORM!

Lazerbeak has long legs that allow him to perch on Soundwave's shoulder. I'll show you how that works in part 2, if I have the time.

Also, like G1, he has two guns on the back.

Ravage...

...TRANSFORM!

Out of the four, Ravage has the most articulation. The top of the legs have the same amount as a T-joint has, and the legs bend as well. The guns also move.

Out of all of them, Ravage has the most pegs on him. This is because he's the bulk of the turret that holds everything together.

And finally, Ratbat...

...TRANSFORM!

Where Ravage has the most articulation, Ratbat has the least. His wongs move forward and back. That's it.

Nothing much to say. I might update Ratbat sometime in the future, but for now this is the best I could come up with.

To finish off, here's a view of the four Cassettcons...

...and the whole group so far.

STAY TUNED FOR PART TWO! IT'LL BE OUT EITHER TOMORROW OR THE DAY AFTER THAT!

(Or the day after that, but no later. I swear. :) )

Quoting Legomania . @Declan Muller - Generally not, but with everything else being smooth they look out of place. I know, LEGO does do that, but most of the time I rather they would cover them up. Anyway, it's just a small thing, not really that big of a problem.
Ah, to each their own. Each builder needs to have their own building style, otherwise they really can't evolve. :)

Quoting Legomania . @Declan Muller - Would it have been possible to replace the 2x4 brick with two 2x4 plates, and 2 2x2 tiles (or something else that equals the dimensions)?
They could, but the studs fill up the holes better. Besides, is showing studs really that bad? Lego does it all the time, even on their most complex of builds. Even a purist can't argue against that.

Quoting Legomania . Very nice work. Ravage looks pretty cool, and the alternative mode for Soundwave is pretty good, though the sides of his legs should be tiled.
They can't be, otherwise this wouldn't transform properly.

Quoting andros tempest Some interesting stuff going on here. Just one question, and I'm going to sound really stupid saying this but - what does LTC stand for?
It stands for Lego Transformers Conquest. It's a custom line that I made where I take existing characters (and sometimes make OCs) and build them in any vehicle mode I feel like. It's a lot like your 'my own' MOCs, only mine's a fully developed theme.

Quoting Callux Toa of Fire Who's the lucky ToF that your building as a Transformer? Th that sure would be nice... :P I love the way Soundwave looks and the Cassettes are pretty nifty too. Great Job!
Thanks. Callux (not Toa, just Callux) should be out next weekend or monday at the latest, but you'll see his helicopter mode as a sneak peek before then. :)

Quoting MEGATRON THE DECEPTICON I really like this Soundwave, and the shoulders look really neat. Good idea to give Buzzsaw some saws.
Thanks. The shoulders were actually in there from day one, as I thought they'd give a sort of 'speaker' effect.
Quoting Evan Botkin Nice job! I like Soundwave's robot form and I like all the Casettcons. The treads on Soundwave's shoulders look really cool but, I never liked any form of Soundwave that wasn't a tape-player. Sorry. It's a great model but I don't like the vehicle mode.
That's okay. I respect both Geewunners, Bayformer fanboys and everybody inbetween. Unless you like Kiss Players, then get out of my life. :P
Quoting Bumblebee 5253 Yeah, the robot mode is awesome looking! The casseticons are great too, nice work! And good luck in the competition!
Thanks. I have a pretty good feeling about this. The entries I've seen so far look decent, but a little simplified (eg. the gun barrel of Shockwave sticking out of his backside).
Quoting Paulo Daniel Looks good! Also, the Fansproject figure you're talking about is one of the Stunticons?
Could've been, but I don't think so. I think it was a prime or something from Dark Cybertron. Still, I do like the fansproject Menasor. If I was still into Transformer toys, I'd definitely buy it sometime. Still, Legoformers are cheaper and more fun because you design them.
