Alrightythen. I have to admit that I really didn’t want to go in the direction of Star Wars. However, it is so ripe and juicy for this sort of thing. So beloved and yet so full of holes. Additionally, as far as prequels go, it is usually understood that they are supposed to elevate the story; explain vagaries that the originals either didn’t have time to include or felt that it was unnecessary or undoable at the time. I think that we can all agree that we were much better off not knowing. Seeing that ripe little peach in front of me, I instead chose to mock the original series instead with only a couple mentions to the latter (or former. However you wish to see it.) I wanted to take a bunch of the dialog and twist it into something that was truly wrong; so, some of the quotes may be a bit outside and obscure. You’re welcome. ;) I mostly took from A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back since I already skewered Return of the Jedi HERE .

I took another direction as well. I combined the awesomely “F”ed up series Mad Men with this, which means that there are even more obscure references to boot. You’re welcome again. ;) Don Draper meets matt rowntRee meets Emperor Palpatine. What could possibly go right?

Enjoy!

matt - Welcome gentleman, I’d offer you a drink but it seems that our photographer was in here earlier. Uhh, is there some reason that a pair of legs is kicking at the door?

Emperor – That’s just Maul. Ignore him.

Imperial Guards – teeheehee.

Darth Vader – Khhh, hooo. We find your lack of advertising most disturbing.

matt - Well, we felt that a minimalist approach was more suited for your blatantly evil regime. However, since everyone in the galaxy seems completely duped by your Ugliness here and you, Uncle Weezy, we thought we’d try a different approach.

Imperial Guards – teeheehee.

Emperor – Hehe Uncle Weezy. I’ll have to remember that one. What did you have in mind?

matt – Firstly, Death Star? Really? Think your drumming up support by parking something called the Death Star on someone’s front lawn? And what about these Star Destroyers? Do you guys have something against obscurely vague terms like Venator? Hell, that almost sounds helpful. But Star Destroyer? Doesn’t leave much to the imagination, does it?

Emperor – I picked those names.

matt – Great names! We’ll stick with those then.

matt - We thought we’d try some propagandist posters as well. Like this one.

Emperor – Ooooh, I like that!

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Noooooooooooo… Khhh, hooo, oooooooooo.

Emperor – Cram it, Uncle Weezy! Have some midi-chlorian Jell-o. –zappity zap-

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Oooooh! -nom, nom, nom, slurp-

matt – I guess all kids love Jell-o.

matt - Follow me gentlemen, I’ll show you some things we’re working on. Cindyyy, hold all my calls.

Cindyyy – Yes Mr. rowntRee.

matt – Did you just change your accent to British?

Cindyyy – I don’t know what you’re… EEEEEEEEK!

Emperor – NO! Bad Maul! Baaaaad Maul! -zappity zap-

matt – Just right in here gentleman, let’s check with Han first. Watch out for the gonk droid, we sent him for some coffee about three weeks ago. He’s gotten halfway down the hall.

Lando – You know why I keep plenty of Bespin 45 around? Because you never know who might be stopping…

Han – CUT! CUT!! CUT!!! HOLY ALLUVIAL DAMPERS!!! What is that!?! Why is the mic in the shot?!?

Jar Jar – Meesa so sorry.

Han – Say “meesa” one more time!

Jar Jar – Meesa?

BLAMMM!

matt – Han, having trouble with your sound guy?

Han – No, no problem. Why?

matt – uhm.

Han – Don’t worry. Besides, I had to shoot that guy first for bringing me the wrong hydrospanner.

matt - The clients are here. Thought you were through doing things on your own. Where’s Heath?

Han – Solo’s my middle name. He’s next door shooting the pics for that coffee guy, Obi-Juan Valdez. I’ll take you there.

Lando – Hey! What about me? This advertisement deal is getting worse all the time.

Emperor – Maul!

Obi-Juan – Hola? Senor Heath?

Heath – Zzzzzz

matt – Heath!

Heath – GAHHH! Jeezis!

Heath - Oh, hey matt. Obi-Juan, could you get us some of that fine mountain grown coffee from the hills of Corellia? How do you guys take it? Cream or sugar anyone?

Emperor – Dark. Very dark.

Imperial Guard – Could I get some non-dairy creamer? Uh, never mind. I’ll take it dark as well.

matt – Never mind the coffee right now, I thought you were taking the shots of the storm troopers.

Heath – Yeah, I was. I told them to assemble that gun so we could get some action pics.

Emperor – Maul!

Heath - That was three hours ago!

Heath – Still at it guys?

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Attention!

Heath – Well, they can stand really, really good anyways. brilliant. I have another shoot set up over there. Maybe they’re faring better.

Emperor – Maul!

matt – Nope.

matt - Hold on a minute that might be a blaster hole.

Emperor – Looks like a woodpecker hole.

matt – Yeah, I think you’re right. Got something else that might work though.

Emperor – Maul!

Emperor - Oooh la la.

matt – Okay, uh, we tried without the helmet and well… Uhm… Let’s just say that we found out why you wear them.

Heath – Woof!

Storm Trooperess – Hey Darthy!

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Uh, hi Bettyyy.

Bettyyy – Topsyyy and I had fun the other night.

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Right. Uh, what else do you have for us matt? Khhh, hooo. Please, what’s next matt?

Imperial Guards – teeheehee.

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Moving along, moving along.

matt – Mmmmokay. I think you’ll like what we have next guys.

Bettyyy – Can I call you later, Darthy?

Betyyy – Ewwwww!

Emperor – Maul!

matt – What screams tyrannical, totalitarian, evil regime more than a musical? We call it, “The Empire Strikes up the Band!” What do ya think? Win, right?

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Noooooooooooo… Khhh, hooo, oooooooooo.

matt – Look babe, we’ll have top stars and the Solid Gold Dancers. It’ll be a total extrav-o-ganza! Picture all the most tal…

matt -choke, gasp, choke-

Darth Vader – Khhh, hooo. I hate musicals!

Emperor – Weezy! Jell-o!

Darth Vader - Khhh, hooo. Oooooh! -nom, nom, nom, slurp-

matt – Okay. –cough- Got that straightened out then.

Emperor – Maul!

matt - So, what do ya’ll think?

Emperor – I have only one thing to say.

Emperor – I looooove it!!!

matt – Great! We can finish up the promos here then head out to the Death Star to start production. We can be there Tuesday.

Emperor – Tuesday will be perfect. We’ll be over at Yavin 4.

Heath – Do ya think it’s a good idea to deal with them?

matt – Bah, you worry too much. C’mon, let’s go cash this check and get some “power converters” at Tosche Station. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

Gonk Droid – Gonk.

Emperor – Maul!

Fourth Wall: Firstly, I want to congratulate Yuri on five years here. I’m pretty sure that we all agree that Mocpages just wouldn’t be the same without you. Secondly, I want to congratulate Yuri again for this fine contest. Truly maniacal and twisted with a healthy dose of unadulterated fun. I’d also like to apologize for allowing other projects to impede on this one as it did not deserve that. I am at your mercy. Thirdly, I want to thank all the competitors for producing some truly outstanding builds. And last, but certainly not least, I wish to thank Stuart for being a class act in general. Regardless of the outcome of these finals, I have to say that you have produced some of my favorite mocs this year. Fine show from a fine builder and I look forward to competing with and against you in the future. Good luck!

Quoting Delatron 3000 I realised that while I had a dim age (not quite dark you see?) after last years MOs that I have not checked out lots of builds by lots of people. Looks like I missed some gems, including this one! I used to thrive on pun-filled story MOCs such as these mate (got me to a MO final once - true story) and I love to see them done well as this one is. Great chuckles throughout, but not ignoring some nice, stylish scenery builds too. What a pleasant way to pass some time, I think i'll go and find some more!
Thank you Stu! And welcome back. ;) I think this plays to a much different crowd than is usually expected here on MP, glad you enjoyed it.

Quoting Kevin Yoo A great story with well placed elements of randomness- such as midi-chlorian jello and, of course, Darth Maul's legs. Makes me wonder what the bad guys of Star Wars actually do in their free time.
Thank you Kevin! I love randomness as it adds a real quirky side to character and breaks up rigid and linear storytelling. Additionally it really makes one wonder about the complete characters, like what they do in their spare time. I don't think all those troopers on the Death Star were just sitting around waiting for the thing to blow up. Didn't any of them ONCE question what they were doing on something called a Death Star? ;)

Quoting El Barto ! Darned impressive here, Matt! Great collection of sets; details, styles, perspectives. Just like watching a show. I know what it takes to get something like this done, but all in such a short time frame. Star Wars musical, too, so Mel Brooks, gotta love it. Good luck, Chief!
Deep respect for your work Bart especially after doing this. Not sure how you keep everything going forward at such a great pace and interest. I found the editing process to be a very odd perspective for me as I did it as I went. Not sure if BSG works that way for you but the story and dialog were nearly 180 degrees from what I originally drafted. I have the distinct feeling that I will be picking your brain at BW in this regard. Between drinks of course. ;) Thank you Bart!

Quoting Evan Botkin Awesome job! There are too many jokes in here for me to address all of them but I thought Darth Maul's legs running around and messing things up was great. The posters at the beginning were awesome too (especially the Vader one that said 'Hate' XD). Han blasting Jar Jar's head off was great but I think the best joke was the Stormtroopers trying to shoot the barn. Great job and good luck in the contest!
Thank you Evan! I can't take credit for the posters as I found them as clip art. I was going to shoot the exact same ones as I came up with the same ideas then I decided to see if anyone else had done anything like this. Voila! Had some other crazy ones lined up including the Emperor holding a baby. Classic propaganda stuff. And of course who doesn't like violence against Jar Jar? ;)

Blowed up real good! XD Yeah, I figured a bit of blatant violence would bolster the fact that Han was/is a pirate. He's not a very nice guy AND he did shoot first. I think the entire galaxy is still wondering why Lucas changed that. Might as well play it up seeing that SW7 will probably portray him as a Trappist Monk. jeeesh. Thank you Cheryl!

I really liked your set designs, especially the stage lighting and backgrounds. A really cool mix of modern day film and Star Wars. Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you Stephan! I try to make things that make ME laugh, if the end result is that others do, then I have succeeded well beyond my expectations. Quoting Gallardo of LU I'm not a big fan of trying to tell a story through many scenes in Lego. I prefer to try and convey a single moment or group of moments all into one build. And because of that I had a hard time getting into the story presented here. That said there are some great singular scenes here. Seeing Greedo dead, and only moments after Jar Jars demise, perfect! the dancers and bikini trooper were rather funny as well. but the Jello, something about it just feels all wrong to me, and really detracted from the characters (Emperor and Vader). As far as build goes, there are some fantastic things going on, and can easily become lost behind the Characters. I especially liked the walls in the dancing scenes. along with the office building. the office is so real feeling ceiling height and all. very well done. Over all its a fantastic build, with just a few quirks I would have omitted but still fantastic!
Thank you Gallardo! Excellent observations there. I understand about story and image. It seems that one or the other is more appropriate. In this realm, visual acuity is aces. This is actually a great thing to hear as I am writing a story right now that I intend to create mocs for. Dialog and story will have to be trimmed and omitted altogether for visual interest. This then can be considered a trial run for that. The other aspects like the Jell-O and the sets are more for character dissection and reader familiarity. The Jell-O was a slap at the whole idea of the force being intelligent bacteria. ?!? And the sets were actually intended to be lost behind the characters. But I completely see your point. And more importantly, welcome and thank you for critiques like this.

One criticism though: I think you missed a golden opportunity for a "Springtime for Hitler" reference with the musical -- The Producers has always been one of my favorite Mel Brooks films.
AMEN! The Producer's is one of THE best ever. I was thinking about that one as well as the ending scene of Blazing Saddles. Alas, I'm rather burnt out right now. I may continue the MM theme however, tons of potential. Thank you Matt!

I loved the part were Han blasts Jar Jar and then you see he has already blasted Greido . Great use of the dialog from Star Wars there and through out. I like the Maul legs running around causing comedic havoc. I also liked the two guards snickering at the jokes. The scene with the Stormtroopers is a riot trying to assemble the gun especially the female trooper and Darth Vader "call me" . The chorus line at the end was the icing on the cake, just brilliant

Thank you Tom! I figured that most people would understand the SW references more than the MM ones so I built this in that direction. Let's hope SW7 will be as fun as this was, and that Chewie will make an appearance! Best of Luck! :)
Thank you Topsy! Yeah, Carrie will always be that special someone in a gold bikini. Mmmm, bikini. XD Actually she still looks good, I think it's the lack of any plastic surgeries or botox. Natural is quite pleasing. Plus she'll always be feisty, that's always a win in my book. BTW Chewie is in the window behind Lando. ;) Also, check out the show, totally psychologically demented. Gotta love the 60s.

Thank you Frank! He's not everywhere, but he is in the window behind Lando, just out of focus. ;)

Like Frank I was waiting for Chewie to pop in somewhere! I've never watched Mad Men so had to go look up Betty's character. Interesting that she had weight issues in some episodes, and Carrie Fisher has herself lost 50lbs to prepare for the upcoming SW7! Let's hope SW7 will be as fun as this was, and that Chewie will make an appearance! Best of Luck! :)

Quoting Bumblebee 5253 I need to ask you a question: What the h311 did I just look at?!?! Nice MOC anyways.
Well, it's kinda complex. The contest called for us to include ourselves in an established sci-fi/fantasy story. I sorta did it with two: Star Wars and Mad Men. Not sure if the younger viewers would understand or even know of Mad Men since it is about an ad agency in the 60's and is rather adult, but I went with my gut. Thank you Bumblebee!
