The 10 Commandments of MOCcing
...How to have a fulfilling MOCcing experience....
About this creation
My humble opinion on the rules to having a great MOCcing experience.

The 10 Commandments of MOCcing:

1)There is only one superior brand of bricks for MOCcists (and that should be self explanatory).

2)Thou shall be creative. - Post creative MOCs, do not just post for the sake of posting.

3)Thou shall not covet thy neighbours designs. - Although self explanatory, many of us have experienced this. Do not take credit for designs in whole or in part that are not yours. Give credit to the originator. Ask them before posting. Imitation is flattering but plagiarism just is NOT cool.

4)Thou shall respect all skill levels of MOCcists. - There are people on this and most other sites of all ages and skill levels. Do not discriminate because of their skill level, age or believe system. We are all here for one common thread - we all luv Lego.

5)Thou shall encourage new MOCcists. - Provide tips and constructive critism to new MOCcists to help them on their MOCcing ecperince. (But of course only if they want your help, do not ram suggestions down their throats)

6)Thou shall respect the AFOLs for they have both experience and the funds to buy lots of bricks. - You will become an AFOL one day, and likely you will escape to your man cave to get away from your nagging wife and screaming kids. If you do not understand this today...one day you will. :P

7)Thou shall always try to improve thy skills. - Build outside of your comfort zone, learn new techniques - use different colours and elements - whatever it takes - this is the only way, to improve.

8)Thou shall not “FORGET” to credit fellow MOCcists for “BORROWING” their design elements. Similar to #3 - Give credit where credit is due.

9)Thou shall not covet false smiley Lego heads through false pretense in order to elevate one’s MOC. - Spam, spam, spam spam!

...and the most important thing...

10)Thou shall have FUN! - After all they are just little ABS blocks, we should not take this too seriously.

Happy building all!

I completely agree with Nils, O. "Thou shalt not beg for instructions".
  June 2, 2014
I have another one: Thou shall not ask for instructions. If you want to "copy" a model, look at the pictures and try to build it yourself. If you can't build a detail, ask for a detailed photo, not for complete instructions. You will learn from that. And if you post the result, remember #8!

i can follow all but the first commandment here. traveled too much and been exposed to too many a non-Lego brand set to be a purist.
  May 26, 2014
Also, "Thou shalt not discriminate against other builders if their official bricks do not contain studs" (e. g. Technic/BIONICLE/HF.)

Ten Commandments for pretty much anything in life, not just MOCing - the community of which is a lot better than most.

agreed - but sometimes little reminders may change a few hearts and minds!
Quoting matt rowntRee I thought we couldn't go swimming until thirty minutes after playing with Lego. Or am I thinking of another commandment? XD Awesome list there Chris. I've found a simple truth in life that applies to a certain breed of disrespectful human/Mocer as well: -Expletives- are born that way, and they don't ever change. In short, do it for yourself because everyone else shouldn't care. I love that you made a list but the real shame of it is that you had to make a list. One would think that these would be givens, but we are proven everyday that they are not. ;) Excellent! Although I'm quite certain that my buying power falls WAAAAAY short of the standard. XD

That's so cool, you are 100% right! The AFOL picture is my favourite detail :-)) From time to time I find myself in a local toy shop next to a kid in front of the LEGO shelf. And then I think: "Should I tell him that I could buy any of these sets right now from my 'pocket money'?" ;-)) OK, I would have to discuss the issue with my personal finance minister, later :-))

purely coincidence - but impeccable timing.... And yes I should add number 11!
Quoting andros tempest I wonder what prompted this...? Essential reading for new members I'd say, particularly the part about respect. Sadly too many people on the net think just because you don't know who they are or where they live that makes it OK for them to be rude. My 11th commandment, and one I break regularly is, "Don't feed the trolls".

I like the picture contrasting the KFOL's and AFOL's respective spending power. I remember being an awed 10 year old, amazed at how grown ups could have so many bricks in MATCHING COLOURS!
