My entry to the 100 Piece Brick Built Figure Contest
About this creation
100 Piece Brick Built Figure Contest

This is the official Linux kernel mascot Tux, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tux for some background information. The original image was drawn by Larry Ewing using "The GIMP".

It uses only 59 pieces - but no one if the mystery parts.

Compare it with the original drawing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tux.png):

Only 59 parts!

Its Tux! You managed to nail the shaping and its adorable quality. You even managed to have him holding his foot in a sticky sweet and cute way. I think because of that, the character is not sacrificed for your aesthetic vision. Hes complete and adorable. Hes the Lego version of a teddy bear. On that note, you also run the risk of over saccharine. There is a tipping point where too cute is too much (i.e. Ewoks.) This guy, however, has a balance to him that succeeds. I expect that these will pop up in cubicles everywhere in protest of Microsoft. Rightly so, I might add. I love the part usage for the feet, but I think the eyes need that easy going, laid back, heavy lidded look rather than the deer in the headlights fright. But all in all, it is a clever and cute and easily recognizable character. Awesome!

Excellent build. You stuck to your guns and didn't chase any of the mystery parts. That you held true to your vision is apparent by how astoundingly close you came to the original image. Well done. Attack!

So who's counting? 54? 59? Either way, this is a terrific creation.

Going with the cute angle, I see. It looks great. I especially like how you have him seated with his little feet sticking out like that, as well as the fact that he is an animal. That will make your build memorable as it is different than all the rest. Best of luck to you in the contest.

I'm not an expert MLCAD user and made a mistake counting the parts using the software. There are 59 parts in this creation, not 54. I updated the description. Sorry for this.

Brilliant! The first non-human figure that I've spotted in this contest. You've got Pingu spot on too. The parts you've used for his feet are nicely chosen.
