Bio

Originally kept in an Illusion Tube [1] as a prisoner by the Order, Aitryn has no memories of his own. Instead he receives glimpses of Dystrax's life. A few days after the destruction of the Red Star [2], he was freed by Mercy, triggering a city-wide lockdown in Strykeon, the Order's headquarters. Because of his Velcion heritage, Aitryn was unintentionally "contracted" [3] to Mercy and ended up accompanying her in their escape. Sneaking their way around, they narrowly saved Mirra Fazel from execution, who later revealed to Aitryn that she and Mercy are sisters.

1-A containment device that puts its captive in a dream-like state, as if they were never asleep. It is usually a major shock to them if they ever wake up.

2-Upon learning of the reincarnating abilities of the Red Star, the Order planned to abuse its power to remain in power by sending an expedition. They never made it, as it was destroyed mysteriously. It is rumoured that Aridike was the perpetrator.

3-Velcion are an unusually polite species whose "programming" requires them to fufil any debts, even if it means spending a lifetime with someone, which is largely why they have very few relationships outside of their own species. Aitryn has a bit of leeway because he's a half-Velcion.

Strangely, they came across a portal that lead to the neutral city of Schism [4], which was their intended destination. After hearing an explanation about the current state of Spherus Magna, Aitryn decides to part ways with Mirra and Mercy and return to Strykeon to track down a few old acquaintances. Using the archives below Schism, he constructs a list of everyone Dystrax made contact with leading up to his disappearance.

4-The only city on Spherus Magna not controlled by the Order or overrun by the Hunters.

Realising that one of the people on his list is the current leader of the Order, Aitryn becomes even more determined to pry the truth from them. Known only as the Thunderclap, he is said to be the master of all the winds that blow across the planet. Aitryn places him at top priority, as he can potentially get his answers much quicker. Soon though, he realises that the world is much different to the one he sees in Dystrax's memories. Many areas have either overgrown, burned to ashes, or turned into a technological haven by the conflict.

Unbeknownst to Aitryn, a mute Hunter named Killjoy has been following him through his journey. They encounter each other once, Aitryn barely managing a tie between them. Before they left, Killjoy reached out to him, using telepathy to communicate.

"That mask is not your curse to bear."

Almost at Strykeon's perimeter, Aitryn was ambushed by an entire battalion arranged by the Order's air commander (Callan's descendant). Luckily for him, Mirra had tracked him down and provided support. Once they had escaped, Mirra explained that his Nanomites weren't working properly and needed to be constantly monitored by her until she could properly fix them. She tells him that Mercy will join them once she finishes something back at Schism. Although reluctant at first, Aitryn allows her to follow him, but Mirra says that wasn't her intention.

Mirra informs Aitryn that there are two Schism operatives in Strykeon willing to help him. They track down the first, Raylen, an apothecary. Raylen only agrees to come along to observe a half-Velcion in action, and because he'd like to know why Schism has finally called him after years of being in Strykeon. Aitryn finds it a little suspicious, but dismisses it. Mirra and Raylen immediately become enemies, somehow because of Aitryn just being there.

The second contact is Imbron, a knight that once trained Mirra. Meeting with him after sneaking into the barracks, Imbron remarks that this is the first he's heard of Schism for a while now. As they leave, Mercy arrives, saying they have orders from Schism to destroy the Toa Stone Factory to repay their debt towards them. Imbron leads the way.

Once inside, Mercy activates the portal generator Schism gave her. Several troops come pouring out and begin to trash the facility. Aitryn and the others do the same, destroying the abomination creating Toa Stones that are "corrupted" somehow. They prepare to retreat but the Schism commander stops them, saying that the job isn't done yet. To their surprise, Hunters come through a second portal, and immediately leave to pillage the housing area of Strykeon.

The commander reveals that Schism has created a revolutionary force called the Divide and have made a pact with the Hunters to defeat the Order by any means necessary. That includes slaughtering Matoran to prevent any future Toa. What shocks Aitryn even more is that many in the Divide are Toa themselves, including the commander who is a descendant of Toa Cossy. He asks Aitryn to join them or be considered an enemy of the Divide, the Hunters, and the Order.

It's decision time.

Personality

"This is...unfortunate..." -Aitryn on a lot of things.

Overall Aitryn is a bit more relaxed than Dystrax, although he is constantly haunted by Dystrax's memories. Because of this, he doesn't care too much for his own wellbeing, putting others before himself. Some say he's selfless (Imbron), others say he's just piling on the self-depreciation (Raylen), most don't care (Mercy), and a few just call him an idiot (Mirra). Because of his Velcion heritage he also has a logical and rational side to him that some may call cold.

Creator's Comments
I might be satisfied. I might actually be happy with what I have here. Granted, he's not exactly what I first had in mind, but the end result still looks great. This is what it's like to have the so called "Creator's Curse". It's when you're never satisfied with your work and always see what you can do better after you're finished. It made it extremely difficult and frustrating to construct this MOC, but after removing some limitations I've found a design that is new for me and works.

There's quite a bit I want to say about the design and stuff, so I'll just say this for now.

Video Review Coming Soon!

That's right, I'm returning (sort of) to YouTube. Don't expect much in terms of full on stop motions though. I'll likely just post reviews and maybe the occasional short.

But then again, don't expect me to be too active. It's been a good few months since my last MOC, so that says a lot about me and activity.

And yes, I have been keeping up with everyone's MOCs and stuff. But is Gringat's beard like a sacred artefact or something?

Oh well. I hope this was worth your time.

Until next time, whenever that may be.

Quoting MacLane Mars Really interesting back story, I'm intrigued. I'm also glad to see you're back again, hopefully you stick around a bit longer this time :P Aitryn himself looks quite cool. I like the trans red pieces you've incorporated into his design, and those wrist blades are sick. Btw, you should hit me up on Skype some time so we can catch up!
Will do! d(^_^o)

I like the torso. I like the healthy use of technic. However I dislike his light bulb knees and his puny feet and shoulders. Fix those and it will look better! :)

I like that upper torso Custom greeble to suggest the ribcage-style clavicle assembly. Not bad at all! =)

I really like this. As always, you deliver us another great MOC. However, I have to say I prefer the original. The chest design is interesting, and looks nice, but I dislike how he has lost his bulk and the thing I miss most of the original is the old wings and the swords, which were a great reference to SNK. I don't like how slim he has been made, but I still think it's an awesome design. Good work.

Quoting Gringat the Repugnant Excellent build! Wonderful shaping, colour layering and all that jazz. I really like his jetpack too. Backstory was cool but a bit hard to make sense of, even with the helpful captions and everything, since there's nothing about any of Aitryn's team-mates explained.
I'd probably need to dedicate a whole page for a nice explanation, but you can expect more on his teammates when they get built. Thanks for the comment!
