About this creation
The Wayfarer is a standard Peregrinian merchant ship, built for long voyages over ocean waters. She is mainly used for trade or exploration, but is also suitable for conscription into the Kailphlin navy in times of war. Her hardiness and generous hold means that she and others like her are ideal as troop carriers or support ships. Her bow is reinforced for ramming and the wheelhouse deck makes a nicely elevated platform for archers.
Built for the Naval arms race challenge in GoH - merchant marine class. Parts of the waves are power function enabled too, which you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/qi_tah/14027367452/in/photostream/

Great looking ship, yo - really like your water technique, too - has a truer-to-life feel than most I've seen, for being done with bricks

Quoting matt rowntRee Just absolutely stunning work! Fantastic shaping along the hull and especially the stern. Great selection for the sail shapes as well, looks like she'd be a wicked fast attacker. Outstanding!
Thankyou! Yes, those lanteen sails do have an agressive rake to them, don't they? I'm planning another ship based on a Byzantine Dromon, which should be even more streamlined. I just hope i have enough oars! ;)
Quoting Dr. Monster Wow! This is really impressive. It has a real dynamic feel to it. Your ship is a masterpiece and the water technique blows me away.
Thankyou for your very kind words! The water isn't really a technique as such, just good old brick stacking. But i find it's helpful to think about the way water and waves behave and then try to show that, rather than just relying on a stylistic device. :)
Quoting David FNJ Incredible ship! Very well done! Great detailing!
Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) Wonderful ship! I like the colors, the crew, and the sea! :)

Quoting Senator Chinchilla . Looks great! I like how you've curved the bow.
Thanks! It's not the first time i've tried this technique to build a boat, but it's probably my most ambitious attempt so far. If you can get your hands on enough flex tubing, it's a great way to achieve subtle curves. :)
Quoting El Barto ! Great looking ship and wave action!
Quoting Tirrell Brown That's a nice ship you got there sir!
Quoting Justin Lego Brick Cool ship!!
Thanks all, i'm glad you like it! :)
Quoting Sebeus I Go Kaliphlin! I like the moving waves a lot but most of all the cat onboard :P Quite some unique hull shapin, nicely done.
Thanks Seb! Yeah, gotta have a ship's cat, and the new mold is too cute to resist. I keep forgetting that you are a Kali guildie - you know there's a naval arms race going on between Mitgardia and Kaliphlin at the moment, right? If your arm is up to it again, we could really use your ship-building expertise! :D (No pressure!)

Quoting David Alexander Smith Proper brick built water, making full use of the studs. Nice ship too.
Quoting The Timinater ! excellent angles!
Quoting Stephan N great ship
Quoting Sureshot O'Connell Very, very nice! Great hull work too!
Quoting Tim S Fantastic work! The brick-built hull looks excellent with a unique shape that works perfectly. Plus there's tons of little details that bring the entire model to life. Well done!

Quoting David Roberts I like this ship, with its unusual lateen rig and the good shape to its hull. The curves of the hull look great, especially the tumblehome typical of a sailing ship. I also like how you've mixed colours into the hull and that the woodwork on all of the ship isn't just brown Lego. A super, nicely displayed on the brick-built base.
Thanks very much! I did want to build a colourful ship, detailling the hull was one of my fav parts of the build. :)
Quoting Ben King I don't think I have time right now to build something as big as a ship, but I would like to join GoH. Only problem is I find it incredibly hard to upload images on Eurobricks. I can never get the files small enough to upload even after resizing them, so I rarely post things on EB. Hopefully I'll find a way because Kaliphlin looks really neat. Anyways on the topic of mechanics, if you ever need advice or anything I would ask Sebeus. He's made multiple mechanical pirate ships along with a motorized scorpion tank from halo.
Where are you trying to upload your images from? I usually resize my images to 800x600 and post them on Brickshelf, purely for deeplinking to EB. It seems to be the easiest way, although there is the hassle of posting images to yet another site. :P That's what i would recommend anyway! Thanks for the advice about getting in touch with Seb, good to know for the next time i run into some technic problems. :)
Quoting Jme Wheeler Killer hull design! The shaping overall is great, and you've done an awesome job with the details. I really like the mast design as well.
Thanks! Yeah the barrel texture works really well on masts, i've seen it used a few times now. It does need reinforcing with axles though. :)
Quoting BrickBuilder7622 . Wow, what a great ship! The way you built the hull is truly remarkable; it really makes this MOC stand out. Very nice caravel, indeed! 5/5! :-)

Quoting Professor B. Nicely done! This is one of the best ships I've seen on the pages. Great SNOTed work!
Quoting ChrisOtron ~ That`s really good!
Cheers guys! I'm really chuffed that you've enjoyed my build. :)
Quoting Cheryl P Ahoy matey. Great looking ship with terrific details. I like the choppy water. The ship would fit in quite well sailing Lake Superior and the rest of the Great lakes, near where I live. I also like the historical input too.
Thanks Cheryl! The backstory is more fantasy that historical, but i did base the ship from a historical model. My next ship should be completely high fantasy - a bit of a change of pace! Sounds like you live in a lovely area btw. :)
Quoting Allan Hall excellent, although the wave mechanics are not very smooth a great effort, i think i would have made the ship move and left the waves still. but the build is fantastic, the waves look good as they are.
Thanks Alan for your feedback. I did actually start off trying to make the ship rock back and forth, wow that was a huge disaster. (Spent half a week rebuilding her) I agree that the wave motion is too choppy, I've got a lot to learn still about technic mechanisms! :)

Quoting Alex Sonny Beautiful! The blue accent colours look really great, as does everything. AN excellent ship!
Thanks Alex! It was really fun to build. :)
Quoting Graham Gidman Whoa!

Quoting Ben King I was just considering making an entry for Kaliphlin in this category a few days ago! Anyways sweet looking ship. The shaping at the bow and stern is really neat. The coloring on the deck is nice and smooth as well. My only criticism would be that the movinf waves have a very choppy feel, a bit unnatural. I realize working with lego mechanics cn be quite difficult and it still is really cool, thats just my 2 cents. Keep it up!
Cheers Ben! I totally agree with your criticsm, i'm very new to power functions so i'm sure there is a much better solution out there. I just went with differently sized wheel gears to slow the mechanism a bit, but perhaps worm gears might have been better. Linear actuators would have been good for smoothness too, but there wasn't much room for all the technic stuff and i doubt they would have fitted. I have lots to learn and try out in the future for sure! :) Sooo... you still going to make that entry mate? You should head on over to the Kali thread and introduce yourself! :D
Quoting cameron wilson Very nice. Is that Beorn I see?
Cheers! Yes, i needed another scruffy minifig for my scruffy crew. He looked kinda grumpy so i had him swab the decks. ;)
Quoting Michael K. Looks awesome!
