Umbaran MHC (Lego Version)
Hey guys! I'm sorry that it's been so long since my last post but I've just been doing a lot of designing and redesigning, waiting for shipments, and photographing, but I finally finished it! I added most of the commenting and detail stuff with the pictures below. Also, I said that I would post the LDD file to this, and I will, just not right now. I've had to do a lot of remodeling and I want to make a new updated file for all of you so that you guys don't have to struggle as much as I did. So just be patient, it'll be up in the next couple of weeks, and I'll add a comment saying it's attached and everything. Thanks for viewing, and I hope you guys enjoy!
About this creation
Hey guys! If you really like this creation and would someday like an Umbaran MHC to call your own please support it here on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/63734
UPDATE: I just uploaded the building instructions for this, however the program didn't let me do several things that I was able to while physically building it. I tried to create the best file that I can, and if you have questions just post a comment and I'll get back to you. Also, if you want individual LDD files for the leg, the main cannon, all of the plates, or the frame (which I would recommend using if you plan on building this) then just comment with your email and I will send them to you. I will also be posting pictures soon that should help with the construction of this. Thank you!

One my of my favorite things about building this was creating an UCS sticker for the Umbaran MHC. I've never used photoshop before and I only had 30 days to complete it (I only had the free trial because the actual price for it is ridiculous!). I didn't have the best photopaper or the best printer, but I love the way that this came out and I think that it really "seals the deal" and makes this set look authentic. I've already had several people come over and believe that this was an actual set :P

Here's a higher resolution image.

The main gun, an electromagnetic plasma cannon. This was especially difficult to attach to the Umbaran MHC, as it is extremely heavy (mainly in the back) and was pulling the whole model backwards. I had to strongly attach it to the stand using lots of technic bricks and technic pins, to basically pull the gun forward and keep it in place.

Just some detailing on the sides, displaying the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) symbol, as well as some turquoise colored lighting. I used StarWars.com and of course watched the Invasion of Umbara story arc several times ;) to see this detailing and tried to include as much of it as I could.

You can see the stand at the bottom below the three flood lights. I just couldn't find a way to strengthen the connections within the legs enough to keep the whole Umbaran MHC up on its own; it just kept falling down, especially with all of the weight from the head and plasma cannon.

The three flood lights and five other trapezoidal lights.

Detailing on the legs. I had to redesign the legs completely and fortunately was able to use a lot less pieces to make them much much stronger, while still maintaining a lot of the detailing from the original design.

Two anti-personnel laser cannons.

Here is the foot. I didn't really know how to make it because the pictures I saw of it made it out to be a little obscure, but I'm happy with the way that they turned out.

Large shield/shell that protects the legs.

This is the main cockpit. Unfortunately, the big translucent dome that I wanted only came in trans-clear, so I couldn't make it the bluish-green color that I had designated in the virtual model. However, I think overall it doesn't really affect the feeling the model exudes.

I added some detailing with the trans blue-green disks to try to make the cockpit have more color, and I also put small 1x1 studless trans blue-green tiles on the hands of the pilot, since the controls for the Umbaran MHC are all hand motions/movements.

Back of the plasma cannon.

Front of the cannon. I ran out of the trans blue-green dishes so I decided to use these blue ones. At first it bothered me a little, but now I appreciate the color difference!

Inner technic pieces. This section was absolutely key to the gun's stability, and it took me many tries to strengthen it internally and externally maintain the design. I'm so glad that it turned out the way that it did.

I also decided to do a little scene (Please forgive me but I know that Umbara is black and that the clone troopers were never hiding behind a downed AT-RT blasting at the MHC but I just wanted to include this and I didn't have enough time/money to make anything else right now) so I bought a couple of 501st troopers and I even ordered a custom made Arc Trooper Fives (made by the XTC store on Bricklink) which is actually quite impressive and was a bargain for the price that it was!

I also made a rocket launcher for one of the clones (too bad he doesn't know that the MHC is ray shielded).

Here's an overall view of the downed AT-RT and the clones making a desperate attempt at victory. Things aren't looking too well for the 501st right now, especially since I haven't built an Umbaran Starfighter for them to co-op and use to destroy the MHC ;)

A size comparison shot. I believe that the Umbaran MHC is about minifigure size (it might need to be just a tad bit bigger but it is very close).

The following are just some shots focused on the clone troopers/the background of the MHC looking from the troopers' perspectives.

Unfortunately, he didn't make it.

Quoting Mr. Busy Hands Will you update your Cuusoo page with these awesome pictures? Because that will be great!
I tried to update it! But every time I try uploading a picture of the real life Lego version the picture doesn't upload for some reason! I don't know what's wrong...maybe the picture is of a too good resolution and the program can't handle it. But I'll keep trying!

I'm glad you like the shape! It wasn't too bad, surprisingly, to get those curves down though.

Quoting David . thats a set?1?!/ Wher cn I by tht!!11!!1 Seriously, though. This is completely epic!! So much realism to the show, and that sticker is mighty convincing. My first thought was: "Where'd he get that sticker?!"
The sticker might be my favorite part! But I have to give much thanks to Paul Yperman and his UCS sticker tutorial. You should check his page out because the instructions are pretty easy to follow! Thanks again!

Quoting Dr. Monster This looks amazing. Great work on Photoshop and your model rules. The cannon and cockpit are especially cool.
Thank you! Especially for the photoshop comment haha that program was really difficult to work with for me. If you're looking to make your own UCS stickers, I recommend the tutorial that Paul Yperman created, I couldn't have done it without him. He gives you the template too. Quoting Commander Spencer Phenomenal work here. It's about time someone made a minifig-scale MHC. Definitely better than LEGO's. Now if only you made the Umbaran minifig more accurate. :P
Haha yeah I couldn't agree more about the Umbaran minifig, Lego needs to up their game there. But thank you for the praise!
