Yuri's 5th MOCiversary Contest: EPIC BEARD FORCE vs. GIRLY-TRON
Round 4 entry for Yuri’s 5th MOCiversary Contest. Space Playset!
About this creation
Go to Yuri's contest HERE .
My formidable opponent and friend Ron L. Mitchell .

On the remote planet Uncle Si in the outer reaches of the Chewbacca quadrant, only the EPIC BEARD FORCE stands vigilant against the creeping hoards of GIRLY-TRON, an adorable race of female hair stylists, Fox News anchors, and High School chemistry teachers. Their terrifying grooming technology and totally radical, OMG style threatens the stability of beer guzzling awesomeness across the galaxy. It is the EBF alone that can defeat them along with their proud motto: If your dad don’t have a beard, then you got two moms.

However, there is a new weapon in the GIRLY-TRON arsenal that will change the tide of battle.

Will our intrepid heroes be able to defeat it? Is there any hope for peace? Would someone PLEASE get me another beer?!?

Your adventure begins now. Enjoy!

EPIC BEARD FORCE (da good guys)

Original color – Black and orange with sand green accents. Plus trans-neon yellow (bonus)

Main Base w/ garage and hangar (approx. 980 pcs. seriously, even with the letters.) with scooter/rover/modular pods “Handlebars” (20 pcs. each)

Modulary

Yeah, it's a mancave!

Full 'o cavy goodness!

And cavemen!

What the... It opens?!? Playability FTW

Speaking of open... Would someone close the DARN FRIDGE! I HATES WARM BEER!!!

Thank you.

Commander Ron “Ladykiller” Mitchell and Studs Dudeman.

Big screen, big comfy Laz-y-Boys, and of course a big V-8 coffee table.

Okay, what's that?

AN ELEVATOR?!? No way!

Nope. Couldn't make a simple radar tower, could you? Had to be three sided, eh? glutton.

Yeah. Pretty sure Chuck said that.

And now for some vehicular madness.

Small size airship – the “Van Dyke” Viper with pilot Guy McManlymann (approx. 130 pcs.) Plus a "Handlebar" pod.

My first VV by the way.

Medium size land craft – the “Goatee” assault tank with pilot Manuel Machismo (approx. 230 pcs.) Plus another "Handlebar" pod.

Nice pipes.

The "not so nice" pipe.

BONUS STUFF (in appreciation for allowing an extension)
Small size mecha – the “Mutton Chop” mecha with pilot Manfred O’Studmuffin (approx. 140 pcs.) Plus yet another "Handlebar" pod.

Pting!

Kiyaah!

GIRLY-TRON (the enemy)

Medium to large size enemy ship – the “Boo Boo Kitty” troop transport (approx. 570 pcs.) with two “Meow Meow Kittens” (55 pcs. each)

Commandant Topsy (she’s the one in the turret droppin’ brass! You go girl!)

Pilots Mary and Cindy

Playability again?!? Oh, the humanity!

Launch all "Meow Meow Kittens!"

Happy greebles!

Cat butt.

Attack cat.

Deploy the Elite Strike Tactical Reconnaissance Offensive Galactic Enforcement Neutralizers: Tammy, Judy, Amy, and Betty.

Go get 'em, girls!

Awwwww, kittens. They're so ADORABLE!!!

Kitten pilots Sally and Mandy. BFFs

MORE BONUS STUFF!!! (This set has everything, including a "set".)

The GIRLT-TRON secret weapon.

Medium size enemy land craft/robot – the Singular Kinetic Automated Neutralizing Killer aka “Charismatic Carly” (approx. 320 pcs. with the stylish skirt.)

"I'm sorry, what did you call me?"

Lovely curtsey.

"Sure you want to get a closer look?"

"Because I think I might have something just for you."

"What? Oh, this? Why it's just my Bilateral Iridium Tungsten Carbide Heavy Singular Longitudinal Assault Pulverizer (for an additional 110 pcs.)"

"You might want to take a step back now."

In the immortal words of Michael Rutherford, "ATTACK!!!"

"Here, let me get that piece of link there... While I carve out your soul. Teeheehee."

Fourth Wall: Okay, I know what you’re thinking; matt’s really gone off the deep end here. And, you’d be right. Here’s where my brain went with this chauvinistic soiree. Firstly, “Space Playset” is an EPIC challenge. EPIC is a word I use to describe Ron’s beard. Simple math equals EPIC BEARD FORCE. Now, who would they be fighting? The opposite of something so manly and brutish (no offense Ron) could only be a dainty and demure girl. GIRLY-TRON! My wife has a bunch of the Friends sets with pastel colors and horsy stickers, all they need now are cute and ridiculous yet awesome vehicles, and, of course, names that end in a “Y” (just like a fleet of tour guides at Universal Studios. ZING!) Enter another good friend and awesome builder on the pages here that I barely defeated last round: Topsy! Oh, the gears were meshing in sync now. The major problem was how do I build these without dying of laughter?

The EPIC BEARD FORCE had to be awesome. And, being such a manly team, they needed a man-cave. The requirements called for a base AND a garage, but what overly practical man wouldn’t want both for the price of one? Voila! Not only is it also a landing pad on top but it also COMPLETELY maximizes the space of two baseplates. Nothing stylized, just a box; why waste space? The GIRLY-TRON is the complete opposite. Ears and whiskers on a spaceship/troop transport? Spindly landing gear? PASTEL GREEBLES?!? DAT SKIRT?!?!?! Pure insanity, but with LOADS of style.

The EBF also had to be modular. I made the base reconfigurable and the Handlebars as detachable cockpits that could be personalized to the individual pilot and could scoot around the planet surface on their own. This made the actual air/space/land/mecha craft purposeful and specific. For the G-T, I chose to make the Kittens more like an accessory. (Yes, I was being completely chauvinistic in my train of thought.)

Yessireebob! We have achieved ridiculous!

This one was making my wifey laugh; so, for that alone, I consider it a pure success. Thank you Yuri, quite the challenge indeed. ;)

Piece of cake.

Quoting Jeremy McCreary Matt, I don't even know where to start. This may be my favorite of your MOCs yet. More imagination and wit here than in all my MOCs combined -- including the other 3/4 I haven't posted yet! Land vehicle styling and build are simply superb. (Guaranteed winner on LEGO Ideas. Hope you submit it if you haven't already.) Big robot and Girly-Tron sculpting and poses are utterly convincing. I'm continually amazed at your ability to gather seemingly unrelated parts into beautifully integrated, strongly evocative MOCs. And never in the history of LEGO has the 16x4 triple-curved wedge been put to better use. The forearm wedges in the big robot photo below "Kiyaah!" sent my eye flying off the screen to the right to find the lucky recipient of the blast/punch delivered. BTW, I want a hair stylist like Girly-Tron, even if (or precisely because) she's the bad girl. And the commentary is priceless, as always.
Wow, awesome comment Jeremy, thank you! This was one of the most daunting and hilarious builds I've ever done. Never thought about posting the vehicles on Ideas; unfortunately, I've already disassembled them. The robot is still together as the wife has threatened to kill me if I take her apart. ;) I love those 16x4 wedges especially in that awesome orange color; they are rather difficult to utilize effectively without looking like a silly add on. And Charismatic Carly is only available Wednesdays and Thursdays for styling appointments; I don't recommend you ask for a "close shave". XD

Quoting colette lundberg I am working for the Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo and we are honoring some individuals at our Annual Meeting. The theme this year is "Building Blocks for our Future" We are looking for Judaic objects created out of Legos (Noah's Arc, Moses parting the sea, menorah, Jewish Flag). If this is something you might be interested in please email me @ Colette@jewishtoledo.org. Thank you
Hope that you're not looking for the S.K.A.N.K. to grace your awards ceremony. Although she might be considered "in the same light" as perhaps Jael in the Old Testament. Only less clothed. XD Hooray, Bible humor! Yup, I've got a first class reserved ticket on the express tube to Xell. ;) Really want ME to do something for you guys after that? XD

Quoting Matt Bace I tried to comment on this one long ago, but it looks like my comments got lost in moderation (my mistake for using the acronyms that you imply the description :-). In any case, this is awesome in so many ways. The EBF guys better head to their fridge and get hammered,... before they get hammered by the Girly-Tron Bot.
Ha! Knew someone would get thrown into moderation for that. XD Thank you Matt! I think I'll join them in getting hammered, just spent all day on BL placing multiple orders for Brickworld. Ack! Anyways, Cheers!

Quoting MortalSwordsman . Love how your brain works. I am currently sporting 7 days growth and am firmly in the EBF camp. However I have always had a soft spot for the 'bad guys' and there is no exception here. I can think of no better way to go out. Bring on Girly-tron for a bit of good old fashioned hand to hand combat.
Thank you Joe! Wish I could figure out how my brain works, marketable possibilities. XD Yeah, being blonde, I can get away with several days overgrowth. Mine ends up being a soup catcher more than a stylish bit o' handsomeness. I agree about a bit of hand to hand combat, could be rather fun. ;)

Quoting Yuri Fassio I'm so glad you and Suart didn't face each other in this round. Choosing between you two would have been a torture! What a great entry! Splendid builds with a great design and playing value! You're a finalist, now to see if you can get your hands on the gold.
Thank you Yuri! Stuart's is absolutely one of my favorite mocs. You asked for "buy the sheet" quality and I would with his. And you have touched upon one of my favorite goals in any contest, to make the judges work for it. XD Thank you for advancing me into the finals, I am definitely looking forward to it with a bit of fear after this intense build. You, sir, are truly my favorite sadist. ;) Thanks again!

Quoting Nick Barrett Your facility with acronyms knows no limits... LMAO! Enjoyed this immensely and the skillz here are awesome (dat skirt!). Still, Girly-tron for the win! I'm afraid my son's got two moms ;-)
Thank you Nick! I was thinking of posting a pic of the underside of the skirt (No, not that kind of pic.) to show how I assembled it. It is frighteningly strong and frighteningly easy. And, I'm afraid that my own epic beardness is just unshaven stubble. Maybe we're just lesbians trapped in men's bodies. XD

Quoting Chi Warrior This is one set I would totally want! Basically all of your builds have some humor to them. Good luck! :D
Thank you Chi! Humor is sadly lacking nowadays. I appreciate the skill and the detail and the subject matter of all the mocs I see on the pages, but there just needs to be that someone who is crazy enough to just throw all caution to the wind and show that a dose of zany is worth it's weight in gold. I will gladly take up that gauntlet. ;)

Thank you Clever! Yeah, that one had me in stitches too, glad you caught it. Hadn't noticed the M-tron vibe until you mentioned it. Aside from the color, they actually show their influence. Not very surprising since M-tron was at the top of my favorite themes that Lego came up with. It'll pervade pretty much anything I build to some extent. Much in the same way that there will always be hints of Gerry Anderson and Syd Mead in the things I build. Just always there as an aesthetic. Proudly, I might add. ;)

Quoting Henrik Jensen It is always a pleasure to see your builds. They are always incredibly creative and surprising. And your introduction really made me laugh. It seems that the Beard Force should take great care, that Girly-Tron hammer is not to be trifled with. She looks amazing, the hair, the skirt, the boots, Wow!
Thank you Henrik! Yeah, the robot was the most difficult part of the whole build for the sole reason that I couldn't stop laughing. And then the notion of her weapon cropped up. Thought of a massive gun and even a disastrously large sword as with all Manga girls. Then I thought of the most ridiculous and preposterous weapon of choice. A claw hammer with a waffle pattern on the head. Yahtzee! It's so crazy, it's just gotta work! XD

Quoting sam the first Matt, Matt, Matt....Where do we start my friend? Besides the fact that the face on the anime style death machine scares me ("Who yall think yo lookin' at with dat creepy psycho smile?"), the style of everything is just great! The man cave is very cool, as is the vehicles. The Vic Viper is amazing! The meow meow kitties are very cute, and the whiskers on mummy kitty are so good. All round a funny, creative and top notch show Matt! As always! (I think I've used my typing allowance up now...)
Thank you Sam! I think I used up my pic allowance for a post (I think there's about 75 there.) It's all about style. If you're going to do something, might as well make it your own. That's actually my first VV, always wanted to try one out. It really is a fantastic style of fighter, pretty sure that there will be more in my future. The GIRLY-TRON vehicles were designed specifically to be cool looking but somehow annoyingly cute. Tried to keep a Spaceman Spiff vibe with the kittens. Just pink. XD

Quoting David Roberts What a scary lady, with her big hammer and floaty skirt. I love the big chairs in the "man cave" and how it hinges open in traditional Lego base style. There are some great angles on the star fighter, especially the orange parts around the grey engine and the angled thrusters underneath. the way that the pod swaps from vehicle to vehicle is super and looks great fun to play with. The other ship is just too pink for a boy like me to deal with...
Thank you David! Glad you caught the orange bits around the grey engine, I built them on a 45 degree to get them to "close off" the form. Not at all tricky o_O The "Handlebar" pods were something I couldn't help but think back to the Blacktron Renegade. That one was much more sleek, but these seemed appropriately cloddy. And as for the pink, just think of it as "faded red". It'll grow on you. ;)

Quoting Tom Remy This is absolutely fantastic! I litterally laughed to tears, which proves that despite my overmanly sideburns, I have a heart... I happened to listen to some big stoner rock (Lowrider) while watching this, and I had to stop in the middle of my reading to get me a beer: prefect mood! Question: is the big bent radar-thingy-tail on the Boo-Boo-Kitty metaphorically reflecting the Girly-Tron's opinion of the EBF's manhood? PS: best spacemen I've seen so far, except in Harley-Davidson stores.
Thank you Tom! If I have only one goal, it is to make people laugh to tears. =D I'd like to say that it was the similar music I was listening to that prompted most of this but I think I'll say it was more the beer. ;) The wifey is the other influence, trying to make her laugh at the absurdity of this was vital. Quoting Stuart Lucas Right, so now the proper comment! This definitely merits a second like, by the way. Your capacity to take a crazy-cool idea and then go over-the-top to a peak of comedy make this stand out among your outstanding creations. So point by point: EBF colourscheme? Nifty. The viper and tank are both really slick, great use of those Exo-Force orange slopes for streamlining. The base? Cleverly constructed for effective use of baseplates, great looking inside and out! I might have to grow a beard so I can pop round for a beer.... Girly-tron: well it had to be done really, didn't it? On the troop transport, I particularly like the tongue gangplank and the hangars for the kittens. The girly-bot may be just icing on the cake but it's darn GOOD icing! The skirt technique, curves and hairstyle all add to the hilarity. Nice to see you getting in on the hammer action too! Not wanting to pre-judge anything, but I don't suppose there's any chance you've used up all your awesome on this round? No, didn't think so...
Well good morning, Sunshine! XD Thank you very much Stuart! This one really came together like no other build I've done. Funny thing was that I had dialogue and plot and story all swirling around my head as I built. Worth exploring further because it was pretty hilarious, I hope to let everyone in on the insanity that ensued. As far as using up all my awesome, that presumes that I had any to begin with. ;) I think more important is the fact that I have WAY too much fun doing stuff like this. Plus, with the sole goal of making my wifey laugh, I'm pretty much a juggernaut. Thanks again Stuart and best of luck to you!

Quoting Stephan N My dear matt. Here you have it right slammed. I start times with your loved lovely lady. But this lady has a sly old dog. With the hammer she lays gently all again stood down. Your Beard Force is indeed fully equipped. The base is wonderful (I love the antenna). The colors are great and the interior is worked out absolutely awesome. you have written to me once that you can not build mechs! I do not think so, Your mech is top notch, the ship and the vehicle are also great. If really to say just one thing: Hats off
Thank you Stephan! Regarding the mech, I really have only built one prior to this guy and that was the Emotitron. I never really had a use for all the bionicle ball joints and the technic click joints before, just couldn't see how to implement them adequately. I will always use system whenever possible but I am developing a huge admiration for the bio stuff I see here on the pages. Plus, I've found that with the right attitude, I can do just about anything I want. It is the fantastic builders here that bring it out in me. ;)

Not wanting to pre-judge anything, but I don't suppose there's any chance you've used up all your awesome on this round? No, didn't think so...

My dear matt.

Quoting clayton Marchetti The girls names are Josie, Melody and Valerie :-) Josie and the cats long tails and ears for hats. Wow Brother! I love Captain Caveman and his awesome Man cave base, absolutely amazing! I like the facial hair themed names for all the vehicles. The tank and Vic viper are just amazing in their own right. I have to agree with Luke on the ownership of those friends sets though :-) I have to say I really love those black boots on the femme bot. Brother you have an incredible imagination , the ability to translate it to the brick , and then create a story around it that rivals the great ones ( like Hanna Barbera) brilliant job and best of luck in the contest!
Leave it to you to evoke Josie and the P-cats! XD (just realized that their band name might be moderated. XP) If their names ended in a "Y" it would have been a done deal. But alas. XD And additional points go to you for Captain Caaaaavemaaaaan. (God, who remembers this stuff? you and me.) Considering I grew up in the 70s, I have to say that Hanna Barbera are gods to me, and to be compared to them is really quite the honor. Now, had you said that I was like Sid and Marty Krofft, that might go directly to my head and it would have exploded gloriously. XD Thank you very much Brother, I am here to entertain! ;) BTW they're her sets, I swear! XD

Quoting Tim C You, sir, are a Paralyzingly Immature Guy;) Acronyms can be fun. Hey, I joke because I love. All killer with just a little filler, Matt. I love every piece of this MOCapalooza you've put together here. My favorite is undoubtedly the tank. It has very clean lines and looks fast. I can imagine it having a bit of a Juggernaut, (gratuitous Marvel reference), effect on any wall that it comes across. Superb landing platform as well. Friends in space is a genre not nearly visited enough in our community. If I could bring myself to buy pink pieces, I would give that a shot. Of course, my eyes are drawn to Girly Tron. Top notch work on the battle hammer, and you had to have labored your mind a bit over that name. Definitely got a good laugh out of that one. Such a nice touch adding that tenderizer feature to the working end. Finally, the entertainment value of your works cannot be overstated, Matt. This is no exception. Whew...You know how to draw the long comments out of me.
Tim, I find the shear brevity of your statements truly delightful. I mean that sincerely! Everything you say is precise and fully realized, much like your own builds. I actually look forward to and, in a way, strive for your comments as they are something I find equally entertaining. There isn't a single word that I read that doesn't evoke some semblance of a smile. Wait... Did you just call me a "PIG"? XD Thank you very much, Tim! And write away, I enjoy it profusely!

Quoting Eric Landreneau So fricken god. From the macro to the micro, it's all awesome. Like Gurren Lagaan did with the Mecha anime genre, you have managed to be simultaneously ridiculous, irreverent, awesome, inspiring, and artistically uncompromising. If I had to pick one favorite detail - beer cans in the trash, both whole and crushed. Great technique!
Thank you Eric! I think "ridiculous, irreverent, awesome, inspiring, and artistically uncompromising" are the greatest descriptors of me that I think I've heard. Well, maybe not the awesome part, but I appreciate the notion. ;) I was hoping someone would catch the crushed cans. Good eye!

Thank you very much Cheryl! You changed your buddy icon and I didn't recognize it, otherwise I would have given you the same cordiality that I offered Topsy. Ladies first. In spite of this being rather chauvinistic, I do not believe that chivalry is dead. :) The wifey got a real kick out of the robot, so I knew I was on to something good. Beyond words... Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Yeah, I'll bet those Friends figures are your wife's. ;) Great entry Matt, you really did go off the deep end for this one. Love all the play features, the opening cat mouth has me in stitches. Not sure about how appropriate the robot is though, I can see her studs poking out from the shirt... Might cause some of the EPIC BEARD FORCE pilots to crash at least. ;)
No, really. They're my wife's, I swear. XD Gotta beware the big guns. Carly can just act cute and send the ships into a mountain. It's a legitimate strategy. Yeah, the cat mouth also keeps the ship clean. XD Thank you Luke! And, I realized that me going off the deep end assumes that I was relatively sane to begin with and I don't think I qualify. =]

Quoting David Alexander Smith Feeling strangely drawn to Girly-Tron as a theme - what does that say. The thinly disguised Friends Dolphin Cruiser, makes me smile too. My daughter got one of those for Christmas; now to persuade her that it needs deconstructing. The skirt and other assists on the girl bot are impressive in many ways. And maybe best use of orange slopes ever on that land tank. Now all we need is an intergalactic wedding scene to seal the deal and bring peace to the realm. Space nurseries are just so cool to build.
Yeah, that's a marriage that can't possibly fail. XP Although, opposites do attract. Maybe all this is just simply some pent up feelings. Yeah, that's gotta be it. XD The bot has what is called "charisma". It's that inexplicable thing that all big breasted women have. =D Linda happily sacrificed the Dolphin Cruiser for the cause, love that gal. but seeing her laugh out loud at this was well worth the price of admission. Hard to believe that she puts up with me. And I'm definitely thinking that this is a line that needs further exploration. The ORRT might be careful if they should happen across these vixens of misfortune. ;) Thank you David! And have at it.

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) I smiled, I laughed, then I laughed some more! Matt, you are uniquely and exquisitely mad! And I mean that in the very nicest of ways! Let’s see… my favorites are… well… EVERTYTHING! Yet that skirt IS quite a riot! As always, the dialogue and references are top-notch! I think my favorite photo is the one where the Norris quote is plastered across that outside wall directly in our field of vision. I want to personally thank your wife for lending you her Friends stuff. I’m thinking your ‘honey do’ list may have just gotten a tad longer?! Vive la différence! :)
Well, I think out of respect and the proposition that chivalry is indeed not dead, I will respond to the lady first. Thank you Topsy! The "honey do" list is extensive already; so, sadly, I shall not notice any difference. XD Mad is a moniker I shall proudly wear to the grave. Mad matt. Hmmmm. Of all the builders on this fine site, I expect you to carry on the awesomeness that is GIRLY-TRON. Perhaps Darkla might find that those mushrooms have a side effect of pure, insane, enjoyable laughter. ;) Told you that you'd get a kick out of it. XD Thanks again!
