Well, finally the new Lego Mixels have arrived in Australia. At first, I thought the sets themselves weren’t that great. From most of the images, they looked ugly as hell. But, the interesting part about them was their new mini ball joints. That’s what sold me on these guys, not the actual sets. The legend beasts did actually look better, but they’re double the price (Mixels are $6 and Legend Beasts are $12) because they come with a Minifigure. In the end, you get more ball joints from buying two Mixels sets, and the bonus parts that come in the Mixels are much better anyway. Also, the parts count is better. But enough of that. After buying Vulk and Zaptor, I was quite surprised. The IRL versions of them didn’t look too bad after all. But, in the end, I bought them for a larger project. Still, I thought that before starting that project, I should make an Alternative Build Transformer using only those parts. So, I made a beast transformer (because that seemed like the best idea). I may add instructions for this guy, but that’ll be on another page or as a PDF on brickshelf. Also, sorry about the bad photos. I didn’t have time to photograph this guy properly, so I just used my Nintendo 3DS instead. Also, you may be wondering which new project is going to use these. Well, as a hint, he’s the special black-and-yellow clawed guy with the unbalanced eyes…

Okay, so here we have Salamixder in her (yes, she’s female) Mixel-style Salamander mode.

The beast mode works a lot like the original Beast Wars toys, with most of the parts just folding in.

The articulation on Salamixder in beast mode may not be as good as robot mode, but it works.

I didn’t have time to take transformation photos, or to make a gif, so I’ll skip the transformation. Anyway, here we have Salamixder in her robot mode.

The head is made up of the ball joint that connects the beast head to the body.

The robot mode is a bit back heavy and has a fair amount of kibble, but whatever. This is just a test before the real thing arrives.

And, well, that’s it! Don’t forget to comment, like and add me as a favourite builder! Expect something awesome coming up in the school holidays (the next two weeks), and as always, happy building! :)
