Sledgehammer was once known as Stratos Prime back on Cybertron, but that was long before the war began. He was not only a rather capable leader, but he was also a skillful weapons creator. His philosiphy was that each soldier had a set hidden potential in one aspect. When the war began, he became rivals with an Autobot named Windblade. This led him to join the Decepticons, change his name and eventually work his way up the ladder to become a commander. After a tragic incident during a battle, however, he and 10 000 of his troops fell into an unstable space bridge and became stranded on the planet. Soon after, they began a war with the Quintessons that had arrived shortly after they did. As the battle raged on, soldiers either died on the battlefield or left in stolen Quintesson spaceships under Sledgehammer's commands to save themselves (such as Spectre & Lugnut). After there were only twenty of his soldiers left, he took them in the last ship to escape the planet. He soon arrived on earth, ready to fight the Autobots and possibly cross blade and hammer with Windblade. Upon his arrival, he took up the part-time position of ‘blacksmith’, tying in with his philosophy. Little did he know, however, that in arriving on earth, he had led the Quintessons to exactly what they were trying to find...
About this creation
Boy, I am so glad I’ve finally built a Conquest Legoformer, because it’s been WAY to long. The last LTC MOC I’ve built was LTC Hellrider – Pick-A-Brick Version, and that was just a re-release of an existing one! So, in that case, the last ‘proper’ LTC MOC was LTC Overkill, developed for Chris Roach’s Legoformer Contest. The point is, that it’s been a really long time. But that’s not the only thing that makes this MOC special. Oh no, the main thing about this MOC is the character’s inception. You see, I have a MOCing buddy on the pages by the name of Chris The Sledgehammer. Usually, he builds larger versions of my characters in LDD. But this time, we decided to do something different. He made up a character (it’s kinda a self MOC) that he asked me to build. He based it on the car he owns right now, which I took a look at and built. I changed the story a little bit as well to give this character a bit more importance. So, in the end, I made a damn good MOC. It seems a little more earth-based than my other MOCs, but it works okay. He’s also a lot bigger than most LTC Legoformers, a trend that seems to be happening a lot lately. This guy could technically be counted as a Shellformer, but considering how it folds in well, it still looks cool. What I really like, though, is that the Sledgehammer (the weapon he holds, not the character himself) fits tightly into the middle of the vehicle mode, right above the head. The hammer is also part of his arm, and can rotate forward and back to flip it out and attack others. Also, the back part makes a pretty cool Speaspray-style top section. So, all in all, a good MOC. I’m way overdue with the posting, as this MOC’s been fully built since last Sunday. But moving on, enjoy! :)

Spectre: Hey sledge! It’s been a while. Didn’t you have a storyline that intertwined with mine?
Sledgehammer: You mean I used to command you on the planet we got stranded on.
Spectre: Relax, man. You can break the fourth wall all you like here.
Sledgehammer: Oh, really?

Spectre: Yeah! For example, I can make fun of a design flaw you have.
Sledgehammer: What design flaw? I’m totally perfect in every way!
Spectre: Oh, come on, everyone has one! My arms and vehicle mode aren’t too good, Micro Prime’s DIAclone armour is too blocky, and don’t get me started on the combo model!
Sledgehammer: But as far as I know, I don’t have any problems.

Spectre: Yes you do, watch this.
Sledgehammer: What are you doing?

Spectre: And PUSH!
Sledgehammer: AH! What was that for! I can’t move!

Spectre: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That’s hilarious! You’re WAY too unbalanced.
Sledgehammer: It’s not my fault that these pieces aren’t as strong as they used to be! Now help me!

Okay, now we can move onto the actual MOC itself. The vehicle mode is a lot more earth-style than my other Legoformers due to the inspiration taken from an existing vehicle.

The vehicle I based this on is called the Scion XB. I tried to make what would be an armoured version of this. It turned out pretty well.

Very little kibble is visible in the vehicle mode, due to the fact that the Seaspray-style top section of the robot encloses everything else in the vehicle.

Here you can see the car I based it on. You can also check it out on Wikipedia. The difference is that mine is a militarised version of the car.

From what I can tell, Chris asked me to make that the vehicle mode because it’s the car he owns at the moment. He made a MOC of it, and you can check it out HERE.

Despite the difficult transformation due to flimsy pieces, I managed to make a gif of the transformation.

And here we have Sledgehammer in his robot mode!

You’ll notice two things. First, the back section of the car creates a Seaspray-inspired top section. It isn’t actually symmetrical, as it can open up and allow for the hammer to fold into the centre.

The second, which is a bit easier to see from the back, is that the hammer is actually a part of the arm.

This gif shows it a lot better. It can fold in and out at will.

Anyway, I’ll finish off the IRL section with this blurry photo. The rest is the LDD and bonus.

For the LDD, I tried to follow Chris’ requests as closely as possible. In the end, it turned out well.

There’s a lot more black than the idea I took this from, for two reasons. The first is that he asked me to do so, and the second is because I wanted him to look more menacing. Also, the blue hi-lights were my idea, but they actually turned out to be quite close surprisingly. You’ll see why later.

The hammer being a different colour was also my idea. I thought it would create an interesting contrast.

This is what I based the colour scheme on – a contest entry Mecha by the same name. Surprisingly, they both have blue hi-lights, and yet I didn’t notice them until after I was done. Also, the hammer and amount of black are different by my choice. You can check out this Mecha HERE, or the closed contest HERE.

For a size comparison, here’s Lugnut. I dunno why I chose him, but whatever.

There are two bits of bonus features in this MOC. The first is the preview gallery. It’s not currently public at the time of posting it, but it should be eventually (I think). If you want to check it out, then go ahead. There isn’t much use to it, as it was only to show Chris how it looked before the page went up. To see it, click HERE.

The second bonus feature is this gif. Remember when I said that I was making a 3D animated version of Spectre. Well, I’m doing some environment tests. Here’s a camera angle moving thing. I just took multiple photos like a stopmotion Lego movie, because I can’t animate yet. I can only model.

Just a quick note, Chris The Sledgehammer and Chris Roach BoyzWithTheMostToyz are two completely different people.
