MOCAthalon 2014 - Under the Sea

I'm having technical issues with the uploader. For the main pic I had to use the Simplye Uploader, which affected the quality a lot. The rest were uploaded to Flickr and copied from there. Thanks to my teammate Ian for helping me out with that!

First, a better version of the main picture:

I'll let the pictures do the talking now.

As soon as I got this category, I knew I wanted to do a Sea Serpent. This was probably a bit of an overambitious project for myself, but I'm glad I followed through with it. Participating in the MocAthalon has been one of the greatest experiences I've had on MOCPages so far. A huge thank you to the judges for all their hard work in making this amazing contest possible, and thank you, reader, for taking time to look! If you've got the time, a comment or a like would be great!

Thanks again!

Quoting Reynolds . This is SO COOL!!! I would say the head is my favorite part, those teeth match it completely. It also has some great detail! Great work!
Thanks Reynolds! Yeah, the head is definitely my favorite part as well, the rest was a bit rushed and has a lot of room for improvement.

Wow. This looks hard. o.o And yeah, I agree with Kai mostly. Love the blend of different pieces for that head. Nice work, Lindel. ;D

Quoting Kai Bernstein Now that I've extracted myself from the wall at the other side of the room...my, that thing is freaky! Those teeth, those eyes, the placement, the... wow. Though some of the angles are a little odd and I'm not sure what's happening with the brown section (if that's part of the creature it should have some definite streaks or spots of dark tan or something so the transition isn't as sharp), and though the blue NPU underside, while in concept fantastic, doesn't quite mix...that face makes up for all of it. Nice idea with the upside-down base, too, and those plants. But really, you've got to take a closeup of the face and make it the main image. :P
Haha, thanks Kai! I'm really glad you like the face so much, I love it. It all started with the teeth, and everything else just kinda built up around that. The body itself was rushed, as my Bricklink order didn't arrive until the month was nearly over. I'm planning to keep this guy for a while, so I think I'll take your suggestion to go back and blend the dark tan into the brown better. If money were no object, I would have done the whole thing dark tan, but the 1x2s in that color were much more expensive than the dirt cheap browns. I had planned originally to have a lot more of the trans blue, but didn't end up doing that, so it does look kinda out of place. Thanks again for your great comment, Kai, and I'll keep what you said in mind as I revise this guy! =)

Quoting Stephen Boe Wow Lindel! This is seriously amazing! You really stepped up your game for this competition. I mean this when we say it, but this is one of the best sea serpents on mocpages!
Thanks Stephen, I appreciate it! One thing I forgot to add in the description: This obviously takes a lot of inspiration from LVC's Guardian of the Emerald, as you can see.
