About this creation
For the 2014 Mocathlon.
Team - Team BrickLock!
Category - Alien life. We always picture aliens invading our planet, but what do they do when they are not pillaging other worlds? Build us a scene showing what aliens might do at home. Are they busy mowing the snarglaf or painting the floogflarm or FINALLY fixing the nergtranser?

***

Planet: Cicruunüy
Country: Albra
Region: Guitlba swamplands, nicknamed "Swamp of the Ruby Red Mushrooms"

Here, we see a Rignartäy, short Rigg, also called Stone Hoppers by humans. He is in the search for Waei orbs that are not yet pollinated, his only source of food. Riggs are like large frogs, but the color of stone. They are most active at night, as seen here.

During halflight, the time when only one of the two suns on Cicruunüy is shining, the Stone Hopper freezes in place, like a stone. He can not be damaged, as his hide is also as hard as stone. It is his way of saving energy.

During day, when both suns are shining, the Stone Hopper pulls enough energy from the sunlight to continue the search for food. However, in this state he will be slower than at night.

Planet: Vidjegh
Country: United Associations of Vidjegh
Region: Bqess Facility

Here is the only intelligent species of Vidjegh. Their plantlike appearance remains from the time when they survived in the wild by disguising themselves from predators as plants. They communicate by releasing chemicals into the air. They do not have hands, but certain chemicals work together to form materials, and in that way anything from a wall to the equivalent of a computer can be made.

A full image of the corridor. I love the textures on it, especially the wall, and I will show how to make that in a techniques post. I also love the aliens. I mean, they aren't all humanoids...

Here's a picture that details the colors of the first build more. At first I was thinking that, because alien landscapes are always showed as pretty... well, alien, I might make something more normal. But it turned out pretty unique anyways. I like it. I am also really proud of the Rigg.

And here is the picture showing my lighting setup. That was pretty adventurous for me, although I am doing it more and more often now, with better results each time. The point is (in case it was unclear in the first pictures), the pictures were not edited. I used the same lighting setup for all three phases of light (night, halflight, day), but with different settings on my camera each time.

Well, all in all, I am pretty happy with this. Each vignette alone would have been a bit bland, but I feel that they supplement each other nicely. I hope you liked it (especially the judges)!
