Optimus Exprime (Micro Version) – Transformers GO!
Well, I’ve got a few good creations coming up in the next week or two. First, we have the micro version of Optimus Exprime. I decided to make this cost-friendly version of him because I’ve always loved micro scale. It’s largely based on the previous version, with a much more simplistic transformation. The legs are quite literally a scaled down version of the original, and the rest is very similar. There are differences, though. The arms fold back instead of down, and front section of the train becomes a backpack instead. But other than that, they’re almost the same. He doesn’t have his transforming weapons, but he does retain the twin swords. They’re almost the same size as the original MOC, which makes them a lot bigger. This also makes them closer to the toy scale. He also still has his rocket launchers on the side of the vehicle, but they only have two launchers on each side instead of six. Anyway, there should be two more creations coming soon. The first is in the Micro Mecha line. I’ll give you a hint ‘IT’S A ZAKU!’. After that, I’ll be building my first LTC Transformer since the start of February, and since that was just a Pick-A-Brick re-release, it’s the first LTC Transformer since two thirds through January! Also, if Chris The Sledgehammer is reading this, then yes. It will be the Scion B.

Here we have the video again, showing the original toy. I’ll be honest, the toy has kinda grown on me. The vehicle and robot mode are OKAY. Still, I do hate the combiner mode, dragon (if you’d even call it that) mode and the kabuto shields. Anyway, if the youtube video doesn’t work then you can see more images at TFW2005.com.

Also, check out the original MOC by clicking either on the photo or HERE.

Declan: So, in this anime, you’re known as Optimus Exprime, right?
Optimus Prime: Yes, that’s right.

Declan: Does that mean you’re not a prime anymore? Ay? Ay?

Optimus Prime: **SIGHS** That joke was terrible.

Declan: I guess that in the anime, you’re just past your prime…
Optimus Prime: Please stop…

Silai: WATCH LUPIN WITH ME!

Declan: Ah! Where did you come from?!
Silai: I want to watch Lupin the 3rd with you!
Declan: Um, I’m busy now…

Silai: DO IT NOW!
Declan: Optimus, transform and get us out of here!
Optimus Prime: LET’S ROLL OUT!

Silai: COME BACK!
Declan: NO! YOU’VE BECOME OBSESSED WITH LUPIN!
Optimus Prime: Well, at least she’s not watching a crappy 4kids dubbed show.
Declan: Shut up…

Okay, to start off we have Optimus Prime in his bullet train (shinkansen) mode.

The style somehow ended up looking like a non-coloured version of something IXrolloutIX would make.

The main difference between the larger one and the smaller one is that the smaller one is much blockier. It works.

On a close up of the front section, you can see that the head fits into a small compartment that is covered up by the top section that folds under the legs and the side sections that become the shoulderpads.

It’s been a while since I’ve made a gif, so here we go. This is the transformation.

And here you have Optimus Exprime (the micro version) in his robot mode!

He turned out as a great big block of a transformer, but it’s okay. At least it’s not out of the Built To Rule line (and if you don’t know what that is, either it’s before your time and count yourself lucky or you never found out about it and also count yourself lucky).

From the back, you can see that there’s no real kibble except for the big backpack. I couldn’t make the trenchcoat thing, sadly.

For articulation, the legs move in and out only a little (which is thanks to a really cool mechanism made from three bending 1x4 plates), the knees bend, the arms move in and out, bend at the elbow and bend at the knee. Also, the head rotates. So, all in all, 10 points of articulation.

He also comes with the two swords. They’re almost identical to the larger version, which makes them a lot bigger in comparison to the robot. It works better, though, as the toy had HUGE swords.

The swords aren’t anything special…

…but they do fit onto the vehicle.

Anyway, to finish off I’ve got a size comparison. I don’t have the larger one anymore, but who cares.

So, here’s the LDD version. I hope you enjoy it. Anyway, that’s all there is for now. Don’t forget to comment, like and add me as a favourite builder. Also, check out my entry to Chris Roach’s Epic Legoformer Contest. I named him Overkill, and he’s part of the Lego Transformers Conquest Universe. Speaking of which, that was actually the last LTC Transformer I designed, as the one for the PAB order was just a coloured version of an existing character. Anyway, check those out. And as always, happy building! :)

Quoting Chris - The SledgeHammer I read - and very nice tiny prime!
Thanks. The sledgehammer is taking a bit more time, so I think I'll just squeeze in another micro mecha in before I release that just to tide the pages over. So far, only the legs are done. :)
