2014 MOCAthalon: The Serfs Outside Falconheart Castle
Those large, 60x40 builds, always good fun for your undersized light box. ;)
About this creation
Built for the 2014 MOCAthalon on MOCPages

Category: Serf's Up

Team: The SNOT Pickers

"Outside the broad walls of Falconheart Castle, lives the Chest family. They survive on farming and other small jobs. This particular day a small group of knights has come to inspect the farm. The visit from the King's men will be short, and they will surely leave with stomachs full of food; thanks to the Chest's generous attitude."

Now for some pictures!

The Serfs Outside Falconheart Castle
Just a different view of the build, I kinda prefer this one actually.

Friendly Fisherman
A fisherman catching his dinner.

The Well
Father Chest is quite content filling his little bucket.

Greeting the Company
Ms. Chest is already gladly welcoming the coming knights, she probably already made a pie for them.

Workin' the Fields
This farmer looks as though he had a few to many at last nights party.

Pigs
Pigs...yeah, just pigs.

Tree
A tree, though I'm quite happy with it. I don't regret buying all those brown arches now. ;)

A 1x1less path.
Yeah, I'm looking at YOU KAI! If you didn't get that, don't worry.

Untilted
The "Untitled Shot" of the bunch.

Untitled
The clothesline, one of my personal favorite details.

Untiled
Again, another untitled shot just to give a better feel of the creation.

Pretty Pretty Water
The water is pretty, isn't it?

Rocks
My second attempt at decent rockwork, I think I had moderate success.

Special Moment
For anybody who has read my Lands of Mythron stories, you'll understand this....anybody else, you can decide the story. ;)

Creator's Comments:
I can't believe this only took two days to build, deadlines are great at motivating!
This is my third out of hopefully five, hopefully soon to come, entries into the MOCAthalon.

God Bless! I hope you enjoyed!

What. The. Heck. I didn't comment. *faceslams* Anyway, great work! I'm really lovin' the river you did there! One of the camera angles doesn't do justice to its color though. The foliage is also quite well done! I think you should've had a lot more ground height variation, it looks a bit boring and flat. The house is pretty good, but it could definitely be improved with more beams. Althogether, though, the whole moc is really good!

Quoting Kyle Ransom Very nice build. You are well on your way to some top-notch castle building. I love the water and foliage especially. Some more variation in terrain would split up the grass and make It a little more interesting. Great job!
Thanks Kyle, it means a lot coming from someone I so admire! ;)

I really like that scene, the tall grass looks fab, it s scenes like this who had me decided to get a 1000 of them, the addition of pigs add life to the scene as well, I very much fancy the color scheme, bravo!

Nice job on the path! What a sight for stabbed eyes, no square 1x1 tiles... The roof, staircase, water, bridge, pig pen and rockwork are also great, but I must say the repetitive foliage and plain building are...not so pleasant. If nothing else, windows or more beams (or both) on the building would add a lot. Some flower color variety might also be nice, as well as denser foliage by the river, both for realistic growth and to cover up the choppy curves of the riverbank. Overall, though, nice build; I do like the layout. :P

No, don't hide your grass stalks - we saw how that turned out in your TT R4 build, and this is preferable to that.

Quoting Gilbert Despathens Thanks for catching those, Halhi. I wasn't up for a complete breakdown - after spending all that time on your Tourney entry, I realized that I don't want to do that again for a while.
When you regain your energies, I beg you to fully rip apart one of my mine.

Quoting Halhi 141 To add to what Gilbert said... The foliage needs more variety. I think we all know by now that you have tons of grass, but it would be nice to see more variation. As to the building, the tan section needs more texture, and at least two more wooden beams to the sides of the window (and maybe some diagonal or horizontal ones between the corner beams and the window beams) The tree also needs tilted leaves; Justin M has a nice technique that I use a lot for that. Finally, the stonework is a bit bland, it needs some variation. That being said, the overall build looks nice and the foliage, while repetitive, is good like always. The water in particular is very good, you're catching up to Stephen on that. Nice job overalls,
Thank you so much Halhi, I can always count on you and Gilbert to give me constructive criticism. I SWEAR the next time I build I'm going to hid my grass stocks. Those blasted pieces always dominate my MOCs, which is quite sad here in particular...as I did do a ton of ground layering.
