Forklifting
A roundabout way of hoisting a nerdly... that's not as rude as it sounds...
About this creation

On the left in the pic below, set 850 from 1977. A dear old thing...

... but almost entirely useless...

The modded one with better forks and (slightly) better weight distribution does OK. If the nerdly had half a dozen more bricks it would tip over, though...

Perhaps some lead in here would help...

Better still, make one that looks a bit like a modern forklift! Smaller wheels, better weight distribution. Still with the yellowness. Yellow = good.

This has rear wheel steering, from the HOG device or in-cab wheel, as well as an extending / tilting boom and lifting forks.

The nerdly comes courtesy of Tommy Williamson. Thankyou, BrickNerd!

Nerdly reaches for the sky...

This ought to reach him higher...

Biggish red beast has 4 motors and full remote control.

There's a motor each for the front wheels; cut the power to one and it'll steer - the rear wheel is a castor. Works surprisingly well... Two further motors power the lifting and tilting. All PF M motors.

Dat underside...

Nice and easy to turn it on. Much like a ... never mind.

Changing batteries is a piece of cake.

A video of this working...

It deserved a bigger nerdly, so I made one.

Also makes light work of it's great grandfather.

No contest really...

Nerdly!

Once again, a huge thankyou to BrickNerd!

I was hoping you would have the cool new forklift pick up the old-school forklift. Very cool, that is the mark of a great tool.

Excellent take on that good old souvenir. Red versus yellow... My vote for the 2nd yellow one. Very accurate and close to those I can see at the back of 38tons Trucks. So I'm waiting eagerly for the tractor and trail that will fit the forklifter... :)

super lift collection! I m constantly impressed by how thoroughly you study the models you focus on! seeing it in action is very enjoyable too.
  March 17, 2014
Mr. Barrett. As always, your models demand a second, third, and fourth look. Your final model, the red one, is a real show stopper. I find the use of the swiveling rear wheels to be spot on. It quite simply looks just like the real deal. And all in the challenging scale you always build in. A scale that just plane scares me. When the models are bigger, every error is magnified, and it seems much much more demanding. Well done. Attack!

Wow, a masterclass in Technic goodness. My big brother had set 850, I remember how useless it was at actually lifting anything. These are all fantastic improvements, finishing up fully motorized to boot. Excellent job!

The forklift it self is extremely nice. Well designed and I really love it! What I also like about this MOCpages presentation is the way you laid it all out for us. To compare models, starting with the one I owned as a kid alway to your own amazing version!!! Keep it up I would say... :-) In the case is it even literally...

Quoting Cheryl P I just retired from a company that had a huge warehouse. The red forklift is spot on. Looks like the ones my former associates rode around in. The little pallets being lifted are quite good too. Excellent work.
Thanks Cheryl - glad I got that right! :-)

Wow! Such a wonderful collection of forklifts. I have no idea how you manage to release so many well thought out models. My current theory involves a small army of clones and some sort of assembly line, built out of technic Lego of course!

Quoting Matt Bace Very, very nice! Seeing a really well-done forklift like this one, which has both great aesthetics and a fantastic set of functions, makes me wish that LEGO would once again release a Technic forklift. The 8416 set wasn't bad, but something like yours would be awesome.
Thanks Matt, I reckon the Technic range is incomplete without one :-)

So technical!!! It's INSANITY!! I like the Modern Yellow one, but I like the red one almost as much. The 'biggish' one....your idea of biggish is kinda like Jeremy Clarkson's idea of sensible....nothing like anyone else's.
