The primary idea here, is to use a panel for the base to get the figures as low as possible. The distance to the ground is 1/2 a plate, so this is not exactly an offroader!
The passenger might need a 1x2 plate on the legs to prevent him/her from sliding too far forward.
Driving in traffic (nevermind that most of the cars dont have drivers!).
The car on the right was a modification of one of Masao Hidakas designs. I can now say that I have finally made my own original design in the same scale.
(And the blue truck canīt turn, I just cheated too make it look like it : ) )
This is how I originally wanted it, but I kinda liked the 70s look once I put it together.
I think this car is so nice, Iīm going to provide a full picture guide on how to build it, so here we go:
Thats a 2x4 and two corner plates, might not be that easy to see.
The two sides MUST be connected to each other, otherwise the torque from opening the doors will cause them to break off. Here solved by using a 1x4 plate w. 2 studs (92593), which is an incredible helpfull piece. Glad Lego introduced it.
You donīt need to build the connection this strong(6 studs connecting), I just wanted to be sure it would hold.
Where did the 1x4 plate go? Its attached on the back of the brackets to hold them together.
That bracket there is piece 3956.
If you want to build THIS exact car, there is only black and blue colors availible, but its the idea here, that matter. If you build a car that uses a panel as a base like here, be sure to post a comment about it, I would very much like to see this idea explored!
@Marcus@: I might post an update on EB once the last batch of creations is up : ) Oh and your welcome!
@sam the first@: The semi has its own entry if you want a closer look. I included it here to show how it scales to my other vehicles. The build is a little complex but it dosnt have to be.
Wow, this is really great stuff! Now that's an amazing idea to do it with a panel plus you can use those hinges SNOT-wise which look much better than the usual ones. And you get a beautifully looooow car like that, even with a whole minifig sitting inside. Some guys on EB should see that, I guess ... ;-) Congrats and thanks for the mention!
