My first entry to the 2014 MocAthalon.
About this creation
Team Plastic Surgeons

2014 MocAthalon

Under the sea: Whether its fish submarines or underwater landscapes; build us something that is under the sea. (Someone please build a Kraken!)

Here is a bit of a back story....

So I go to check out the categories after I was notified that they were up and what do I see?

Under the Sea.

What do I think? Well, being the Disney geek that I am, I thought The Little Mermaid! Or more specifically, the song "Under the Sea." What do I do? First I start singing the song. I just can't help it.

But than, I get to building.

I knew that I had to do something a bit different for this build so I decided to do SNOT for the base.

Most of you are probably thinking, "Why is that so special?" or "A donut sounds really good about know..." But for me, SNOT is new. I have NEVER done SNOT before.

So people, mostly judges... Have mercy.

Well, now that I am done rambling, we may get to the pictures. Not the WIP pictures, but the final thing! YAY!

Doing a bit of research on Lego under water scenes, I found Max Pointner's Reef Walk and his yellow arm coral technique. I just wanted all credit to go to him.

The treasure chest. And if you noticed, I added fish, a octopus (Or a baby Kraken, if some people would like to think that... *wink wink*) and an anchor. Just a few more things to make it more... Under the sea-ish.

Sebastien and Flounder were a pain in the... Well, you know. But I think they finished up fine.

But Ariel is really my pride and joy of this build. I am extremely happy with how she turned out. Oh and, just to point out.... Ahem, her seashells are purple. The lighting just messed it up.

I hope you all like my first entry. Good luck to all the teams!

Great job. Very nice underwater scene. The figures are great and all of the scenery are done very well. I like Sebastian, he's really cute. Nice work.

Fantastic styling, and great use of color! I think the SNOT sand looks too flat, though, and the rocks seem a bit out of place (and a bit undertextured); adding some more small rocks/pebbles near them and more other elevation change would make them blend in more. I also don't really like the trans blue/clear studs scattered around, but that's just nitpicking. Overall this is a really nice build, congrats on all the good scores!

Great stuff. For someone who has had limited exposure to SNOT building, you are doing very well indeed! I really like your composition skills, attention to detail and presentation (the blue background looks great) - keep working on these strenghs and challenging yourself, you can't go wrong! :)

Quoting matt rowntRee Fantastic additions there Abby! Really paid off in getting some more detail in. Looks busy like it really is under the sea. Which now I have that song going through my head, thank you. ;) Sebastian and Flounder are awesome but it's Ariel that is the star of the show. Great job on making her recognizable and animated. Outstanding!
Yeah, thats what I do. Bring Disney to all people. XP But really, thanks! I am glad I didn't seriously put it up last time.

Quoting Stephen Boe SNOT means that the studs aren't facing up, it doesn't mean they aren't showing. Studs Not On Top is the acronym. Even if the studs are covered with tiles or something, it's still SNOT. Yeah.
Okay! Thanks for clearing that up. XD

Quoting Stephen Boe Actually, in your builds, you've done lots of SNOT, like your siege tower two in that one build against Graham Gidman. Amazing work, Abby!
Really? What are you talking about? Because if there is, I did not mean to do it. XP But thanks anyway!
