Convair B-36A Peacemaker
My largest and most popular MOC to date. It's the second-largest Lego B-36, (after my friend Arwenrommel Hanna's), at over three feet wide! This thing was inspired by clayton Marchetti's Batcopters (15 piece one and full-size one). It is my largest creation ever. It uses almost all of my grey pieces (seriously, I store my legos in mixed bins, but if you looked in any of them you would see no grey) and is more or less just for show. But who cares? It's huge! 41.5 inches wide, 31.5 inches long, about 6 lbs weight. Real plane was 162 feet long and 230 foot wingspan. Wings were 7 feet wide at the root. About an 80,000 pound bomb load and 10,000 mile range, intercontinental range. Enjoy!
About this creation

Look at that! 6 piston engines! Talk about power...

And some of them had jets for even more power (this one does not have them, however. It is an earlier model)

And the engines pointed backwards! (which could be a problem...)

That tail was fun to do.

And wouldja just look at that huge vertical stabilizer.

A little sting in the tail...

The nose was the hardest part. Here is what I settled on.

I tried to make the wheels retract at first, but they were too weak so I settled on this more accurate design.

Those vents cooled the massive 4,000 horsepower engines. They actually worked a bit too well. Sometimes the engines would freeze up in flight and stall out.

And there's the belly, which I did in dark grey to save parts.

The engines from underneath (or on top?) Air ducts cooled them off. The propellers aren't on right now. No jets on this model :( This is supposed to be the prototype version, without the jets and massive bubble canopy.

Another view from the top.

And one from the side. The belly is quite close to the ground.

This is what it would look like in flight (only it wouldn't be on a turtle tank in my basement, and it would be like a gazillion times larger.)

The bottom of the nose, with its dark and light grey color scheme. The windows really stink. Oh well. They look fine to me.

Hey, it's my mini B-36! Just a size comparison...

Now I'll ask you if you think this plane with its 80,000 pound bomb-load and intercontinental reach is really a Peacemaker.... or a Peacetaker. Well, maybe it makes peace by subduing everyone... is that peace? I have no idea. Well, guess I better sleep on it.

It got on the front page!

Yeah, a massive plane with a top speed of less than 450 mph makes this thing easy prey for jet fighters, and even easier prey for SAMs. I'm not sure which got this plane down, but I'm pretty sure that a certain He-162 was in the proximity of this plane. Fortunatly eveyr crew member survived.

Quoting Henrik Jensen Hi Bill! Thank you for commenting on my first year. I think you have plenty to proud of, the B-36 is indeed very good, with more than fifty likes. Somehow I missed commenting on it, but I think the overall shape is really good, and the size is most impressive.
Thanks! If I ever find some time to do it, another large plane will be seen soon... SPOILER ALERT! A KC-135.

Quoting A SwordFish Good work. I especially like the propellors. I think the nose could have used some work, but since this has long been deconstructed there's not much to do about it now I suppose. Maybe something to consider for future builds. Overall though, great work. Keep it up!
I heartily agree with you on this plane. I really didn't intend for it to be built, but before I knew it I had constructed a large pair of wings and I thought "hey why dont i make a B-36?" and so I did. I didn't have much tome to make it, however, so this one didn't have a very good nose, no three bladed props, and no jet pods. Thanks!

Quoting sam the first Great stuff! May I suggest a backdrop, and maybe save up for a better camera? But this deserves 50+ likes.
My next big plane project (after a few little ones): perhaps a massive RC B-29? Two motors. One powers two engines and the wheels (which are fixed in the down position) and I may give it a detailed interior, with the cabins and everything.

Backdrop? How about a grassy field? Camera? Check. Got one for my b-day a few weeks ago. I took pics of my Mustang and Bf-109 with it. Unfortunatly, this model is no longer in existance (there's a picture of my destroying it)

Quoting clayton Marchetti Are you going to post a Wip ? As for the cockpit check out this piece in dark bluish grey it's my favorite part and I've been slowly retrofitting some of my aircraft withe them. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3069bpb035.
No, I only post final products. I believe that a WIP gives you an idea of what the thing will look like before it is finished. I may put wip pics on the final page. But when I get many of my parts back I will finish up the Stuka and perhaps make it an enemy plane... Like a Hurricane...

Quoting clayton Marchetti Speaking of B-17s my father was a radar operator on a modified B-17 in the U.S. Navy in 1952. It was the forerunner to AWACS.
Now that's really awesome! I wish I could ride on a B-17 (but I'll bet that he probably got tired of the cramped cabin of that thing). I may have told you, but my uncle was the copilot? of a B-24 Liberator in WWII. He was shot down twice, and survived both times.

The B-26 was a similar plane and those used to be "widowmakers" but they became the most reliable planes of the war. There is a B-25, B-24 and B-17 coming near my town soon, I may check those out.

Check this out! The Skyraider it's always been a favorite of mine as it highly influenced another of my all time favorites the A-10 thunderbolt. The Skyraider has 7 hard points under each wing you could hang bombs ,drop tanks, rockets . I think this aircraft would really showcase your skills! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-1_Skyraider

My grandfather was the gunner in front of the vertical tailplane. He said those engines were loud once they got up to full throttle, and did not help much when he needed sleep, because of the standby marathon flights for nuclear retaliation, which can last up to ten hours.

Thank you! I either had to go for details or size, so I decided to go for size. Even so, I did try to add some details such as the tail gun, some undercarraige struts, and I did try to make the bombardier window look realistic... enough. Thanks again!

Quoting John Dana My grandfather flew one of these. It had jets on the aircraft. "Six turning and four burning" were often heard around these bombers.
Wow! That's cool that your grandfather flew in these bad boys. What crew member was he? I am going to upgrade it later with a bomb bay and the jets, amd perhaps mod the engines and cockpit a bit. 6 turning and 4 burning was commonly used, but normaly the planes acted more like this: 'two turning, two burning, two joking, and two smoking, with two engines not accounted for'
