About this creation

About the MOC
This is another MOC that happened kind of by accident or on a whim. After seeing Alex-Darkrai:'s Grind Star I was inspired to use my Dark red and black Marbled/gradient parts to make something. The end result became a chopper style motorcycle. I suppose thinking about how the wheels come from the Furno Bike or Speeda Demon's motorcycle is what led me to go the direction of a chopper. I started with an initial idea for the front forks which turned out very well.
Then I spent three days on the rear wheel. I didn't illustrate it here in the photos but when you turn the rear wheel, a series of gears connected to the turntable part on the other side make the hub/rim counter rotate. So if this chopper was roaring down the street the back rim would be spinning the opposite direction. This is probably one of the most complicated pieces of functional design I've ever created. I spent three days just working on this section alone. I first got it, then I spent two days refining it so that the turn table and rim were closer to the wheel.
Now I had sort of a back and a front and had to bridge the two. I struggled with this until I finally scrapped the front fork design keeping the ideas I liked(like the Pyrox mask and the Piraka feet), doing a lot of research by looking up many photos of the key areas of a chopper to really understand how they work and build the MOC like an actual chopper(i.e making the frame, then connecting the forks, building the engine, transmission, gas tank, etc).
This was quite an interesting build in the sense that it's both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. It was a lot of fun chunking through this build one actual part of a motorcycle at a time. I felt like one of the guys on those chopper shows like Orange County Choppers or Biker Buildoff that used to be popular on The Discovery channel.

Interesting Fact about the music here. For the entire duration of this build I listened to nothing but Disturbed and Godsmack to get more inspired to build this MOC. I was trying to find something "Hard rock" and "bikery" but with a darker tone or element to it, possibly even a "horror" element. If you think you know something that fits the bill better I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Because this is the chopper without a rider, I decided an instrumental version of a Disturbed song would be more appropriate than the regular version. Depending on how the rider turns out, I'll probably be using a Godsmack song for him.

This is the first MOC of mine to really benefit from me moving my laptop into my MOC room. I relied heavily on photo searching google to look at the different aspects of choppers. Looking back on it I realize I went for a "simplified realism" approach. The chopper features things like head and tail lights, license plate, gas tank with spout, brake controls and brake lines on the handle bars, functional drive line(wheel connected by Technic chain to "transmission" which is connected via belt drive to motor), engine with fuel line and semi-realistic foot controls(clutch). Though I didn't get too obsessed with the details. I thought about adding things like gauges and other technical bits, but felt they would have distracted from the simpler edgier look of the bike. Thinking back on it, the license plate is probably a bit much as well. =P The nice thing about Choppers is there's a great many kind, from very commercial to customization to the extreme of impracticality and everything in between. This in a way was freeing because I could make it as long or as short as I wanted, make the gas tank or seat however I wanted and I even came across some that had an open sided wheel like this one has. This also presented a bit of a challenge as I had to look at many different kinds of cycles to see what the "common denominators' where. At the end of the day. I think I did a good job recreating a chopper fairly accurately thanks to having a laptop handy to reference photos. Man I shoulda gotten into the habit of taking my laptop in with me ages ago. Now it'll be a permanent fixture in my MOC room.

I got the idea to call it Cerberus fairly early on, but the reason for it changed about midway through. Initially I was going to call it Cerberus thinking that it would figuratively have three heads, the Pyrox mask on the front wheel, the Kalmah head as the gas tank, and the rider's actual head. However several other head pieces were added as I finished out the build. So now I count the pyrox head and the two wolf heads on the handle bars as its "three heads."
For those of you who might not know, Cerberus is a rather famous figure in ancient Greek Mythology. He is typically depicted as a three headed dog with serpents all over his body, though modern depictions show him mostly as three headed dog of some sort. The serpents don't tend to stay. Cerberus guarded the gates of Hades to keep anyone from escaping. The Twelfth trial of Hercules was to subdue Cerberus without the use of any weapons.

Quoting Gringat the Repugnant Excellently excellent (again), though now I look at it again, I realise just how painful it would be to ride. Spiky seats! Ouchie! >.<
I really need to come to MOCpages more. You need to bug me about it more alright? Bug me on skype or DA. I'm currently 4 MOCs behind. And I ignored your comment I'M SO SORRY GRINGAT, PLEASE FORGIVE ME! Anywho, the seat would be rubber/leather so the spikes wouldn't be actual spikes, if there at all if you meant the read spikes. But I wasn't going to pass up using that part as a seat for a couple of spikes. Really the could just be hollow rubber on an actual bike and if you sat on it squish down to where you wouldn't feel em at all. Then while working on the seat I accidentally found out that if you push on a brain just right they invert like that and that was only gonna make it happen even more. Besides, this is an evil demon bike, there ain't no time for sissies whining about how the seat hurts. :P

Oh, okay. Well, I did make a few Bionicle-based motorcycles and I also seen some other Bionicle based MOC's here around MOCPages including within a group on this website that I own. But I haven't seen anything new yet, so this chopper is definitely a treat for me to see.

Quoting Andrew31kbrick193 /// In reply to my last comment, do you mean actual sets or MOCs?
Sets that's not hard to find. the two HF bikes and I guess any technic stuff. I meant MOCs. I haven't seen a good chopper MOC prior to mine. Just some pretty lame horribly colored and photographed ones that don't even use the motorcycle tires, just some jetracks turbines or what ever else is round it was pretty lame.

Now that's how bionicle should be used. So stylish.

Quoting Dr. Monster Terrific chopper. Great shaping and the colors are boss. When I clicked onto your page I was listening to a Mozart piano sonota on my headphones and all of a sudden these drums kick in and the guitar starts chunking away. Take that Mozart!
*LOL* Thanks Dr.Monster. Nice Username by the way. Hehe Sorry Mozart. That's why I put the "WARNING AUTOPLAYING MUSIC" in the introduction. I like me some bass, drum, guitar music. Classical is cool, I like very layered music so that's what I appreciate about it, but the motifs of classical get kind of repetitive so I get bored with it fairly quickly. That and it often times doesn't fit my mood. It moves around from different feelings with the movements, and I like music that rides a feeling or vibe for a while.

Quoting killswitch95 [DEMON] cuusoo, NOW!
Thanks those of you who suggested I put this on Cuusoo. That's very flattering but I sincerely doubt 10,000 people would support this, and even if that happened Lego would probably murder it in the review phase. The most supported project on Cuusoo only has 2,000+ supporters, and that's still a long ways off from 10,000. But I appreciate the sentiment. =)

Quoting JosephC 123 AAAAAHHHHH. This needs to go on cuusoo right now!!!!! The fenders and mud catchers are amazing and I would love to know how you made that engine. That's the one part of the bike that I cannot make. Amazing job, and I would love to see it with it's owner!!!!
*blushes* Thanks Joseph. I'm glad you like it. The engine is built off of a Tri-axle connector That connects to some angled axle connectors which attach it to the frame. The Nuva chest armor is attached with T connectors and the Ninjago spinners on top connect with Technic brick. That's the basic rundown I can give you. I'd have to go tear the bike half apart to get any of those components out to show you. The engine bits are all modular, but interconnected by the drive train, just like on a real chopper.

Quoting Andrew31kbrick193 /// Alright! Now we're talking! That is an awesome Bike. It's been a while since I've seen a new Bionicle bike from anyone.
Thanks. I honestly can't remember where I've seen some bioncle bikes. Thanks Andrew. Care to point them out? I couldn't recall anything that really struck me as being good nothing really stood out in my memory, only the recent Hero Factory Sets, so I felt a bionicle Chopper was a good direction to go in.

Quoting Clever Crowe Amazing work, Dave. Thx for the Vid re: the workings of the rear counter-rotators, and summing up - this thing BEGS for a nice Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze MOC to perch upon. Cheers!~
Thanks Crowe. I got a few comments on DA and flickr requesting to see the counter rotation in action and wanted to know how it worked so I made up a video. This MOC has been up on DA since February 19th. I forgot to post it here. ^^; So lucky for you guys I had all the content ready by the time I posted here. :P I've got several ideas for a rider, but no a Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider guy is the obvious choice and honestly, a boring uninspired choice. I think the rider needs to be an interesting character all his own, but one that still compliments the bike and the bike in turn compliments the rider. One of my friends on DA even suggested an Angel as the rider to completely contrast the demonic feel of the bike. So I'm bouncing that and a few other ideas around. Thanks again for the comment. :)
