About this creation
MOCathalon

Hi everyone!
This is my first ever entry into the MA. What happened here was that I wanted to build a castle. So as soon as the categories were released, I was determined to build a castle without giving an thought to a plot or story. So . . . Yeah. But I'll begin.

QUESTION: What would you do if you could travel back in time?

See here? This is the time traveling contraption that I made. As you can see, it is equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

All you have to do is climb in like this, and turn it on!

Using these Time-Space flames . . . Fwwwooooosssh . . . I can travel back in time!

Poof!

I appeared in the air suddenly, in what looked to be the Middle Ages. I was directly over a castle and decided to fly over it. That's when I realized . . .

My machine couldn't fly. Gravity's unrecognized power was now hurtling me towards the ground!

As I fell from the sky, I made a terrible contact with the roof of the tower, causing it to break!

The roof fell on top of some soldiers, hurting them badly! But not as hurt as I was about to be! I was almost at the collision point of my fall: the ground!

That's when I remembered! Oh, you thought that was a windshield wiper? HA HA - well, it was. But it also contained an emergency storage of my Time-Space flames! I wanted to go back home; this was a horrible experience! On the minuscule control panel located on my contraption, I switched the dial to "Forward." In the nick of time, I had escaped my doom and was back in my home.

ANSWER: Come up with a sad excuse for a plot - AHEM, destroy a tower and decide that the Middle Ages just isn't my thing.

The build:

I tried foliage where I put leaves underneath and sort of cover it with grass and such. Not sure if it's too overgrown, terrible, or good. I was pretty happy with the wall texture and I liked the rocks.

Hmmm . . . I was just looking now, and the time traveling machine kind of looks like a chicken from the side.

Quoting LEGO Spy Nice build! I really like the stonework. Though I think that the foliage is just a smidgen overdone, it doesn't take away from the feeling. Overall great creation! Btw, the story could be worse... Haha!
Thank you! I agree about the foliage, I could've done better there.

Quoting clayton Marchetti Excellent build! I would imagine most would have just built the tower , but you made the whole castle with the gorgeous scenery . That's what makes your builds so amazing you go that extra mile! Brilliant work
Thanks very, very much, Clayton!

Quoting Stephen Boe The castle is well done! Pretty good textures and foliage, finally you complimented your bamboo with leaves. There's a few things bugging me, and that's the vertical oriented tiles on the walls. It just doesn't look natural for a medieval wall.
Thanks Stephen! Okay, gotcha.

Quoting Halhi 141 Pretty nice! Just a little tip, in this contest it might be good to focus on detail rather than size; look at the 5 point entries from last year for instance and you'll find plenty of small ones with huge amounts of detail and technique. Doing that might help raise the quality of your entries (and your amount of points) without stretching your collection or time. Hope this helps!
Awesome - thanks Halhi. I appreciate the advice!

Quoting Mr. Cab Nice stonework! The mix of 4 or 5 colors for the foliage didn't work out quite so well though, honestly. The courtyard seems a little bit desolate, and the time machine looks pretty plain (the flames make it look 3 times as good though). The pictures, in some of which there is visible background other than white, were a small setback to presentation as well... On the other hand, the stonework looks pretty expert, the angle of the entrance is beautiful, and again, the stonework is really nice. Overall, a job well done.
Yeah, I was thinking the foliage was a little chaotic in areas. Thanks for the feedback!

Quoting Kai Bernstein That looks fantastic, Alex! I really like the design of the front as well as how it's at that angle, and the foliage and rocks are a very nice touch! It does look a a little unfinished, though, with lots of tiles on the front and sides but studs showing on the battlements, second level and floor. The dark bley texturing is also a little chaotic in places, though very nice in others. I find that two 1x2 plates on top of each other, offset one stud, look best. Grill bricks don't usually look that good in masonry, though there are only a couple here so I'll let that slide. :P As stated earlier, th foliage and rocks look very good - I like the mix of curved and standard slopes in the rockwork. To make the foliage appear thicker, you may want to have green plates underneath them (but far enough back so they aren't directly visible against the brown). Sorry for the super long comment; again, great work! :P
Thank you for the advice - it really helps me. Thanks!

Quoting Topher Adams Interesting story... too bad you couldn't make the castle to scale (would be very practical would it?) because it looks great. The rock formations on the base are well done. Don't worry about you foliage, I think you got just the right amount. Quite a nice castle indeed...
Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it!

Wow, Alex. That's amazing! Like a lot of the other comments said, I think the story could have been longer or more pictures of the builds could have helped your score... But that's just from a young TFOL not some of these AOFLs or even Older TFOLs...

Thanks! Yeah, I couldn't agree more; I got lazy and impatient and decided to not put the work into more of a story. Just wait for my next entry. HEHEH.

Score = 3 (he really didn't clash with technology and people from the past, which is what were looking for. Yours he kinda was there for like 3 sec, not enough to clash with that time. That effected your score, this was a "4" build, but "2" story and idea, so it rounds up to a 3)

Hi Alex, great work here. You have develpoed the details for the castle and the "past" elements of the build extremely well (One of your best i might add), however you are severely lacking on the "future" side of things. Plus with your story being incredibly short there is no real clash between times. Although your build is excellent those other elements really affected your score. Score: 3
