And our category-"“Far over the misty mountains cold. To dungeons deep, and caverns old.”
I admit I was quite stumped about what to build for this category, I didn't want to just build the scene where the Dwarves are singing in Bag End. I finally decided that the best route was to build something from Erebor, which led me to build Thrors throne room.
Gold veins run through the rocks of Erebor.
An artistic shot.
A shot of the throne without Thror.
As Smaug breaks through the gates of Erebor, he sends fiery blasts.
While your awesome explosion almost earned you my vote, unfortunately I'll be giving my vote to Li Li. For me, it came down to composition (as it often does with me and my goofy judging style). Yours was a build that tugged my attention in different directions: the bulky weight of the gateway, the apparent focal-point of the throne, and the single spot of action dotting the edge. These competing points of interest have the effect of spreading out the visual impact of your creation rather than building it to a climax. So while your techniques, interpretation of the category, and presentation are all phenomenal, I feel your opponent has presented a creation with just a bit more visual cohesion and heft. All the same, well played indeed, both in this round and in previous!
Well done! Unfortunately, your opponent's greater attention to detail and more complete composition earned him my vote. Nevertheless, your work with pearl gold and mixing it into the color scheme is well executed. Good luck with the other judges!
Wow. I don't even know what to say. Wow. This is most DEFINITELY my favorite build of yours. You hit the nail right in the head. I love the cleanliness to it, with its whites and golds. It's just awesome! I hope you win!
