Vought A-7K Corsair II
Two-seat combat-capable trainer version of the A-7D used by the Air National Guard, 30 built. Info courtesy Wikipedia.
About this creation

Modified version of my TA-7C model, with work done to the aircraft spine to add the Air Force "flying boom" style inflight refueling recepticle and dorsal hump, and removal of the Naval style inflight refueling probe from the starboard forward fuselage. Other changes include a re-engineering of the ventral airbrake, modification to the vertical stabilizer, addition of various pods and blisters specific to the A-7K, and addition of a landing light in the port main gear wheel well and RAT (Ram Air Turbine) to the starboard lower fuselage.

The model retains all the functions of my other A-7 models, including positionable flight controls including flaps, ailerons, spoilerons, and all moving tailplanes, opening radome, fully functioning accurate landing gear with multiple gear doors, positionable tail hook, opening canopy, positionable ventral airbrake, and the newly added positionable RAT (Ram Air Turbine). The wings still feature the ability to fold, but this was generally not used by the Air Force / Air National Guard.

New design for the ventral airbrake. The airbrake has been widened, and the long rearward portion has been narrowed to fit between the lower main gear doors when in the open position, something the previous design had conflicts with.

View of the new landing light, located on the forward inside edge of the port main gear upper door.

View of the tandem cockpit of the model. The A-7K featured dual controls, as it was primarily a trainer for the A-7D. However, it retained full combat capability and could be used as an attack or forward air control aircraft. Like the TA-7C model, 2 minifigures will fit under the canopy when closed.

Closeup of the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) used to provide emergency electrical power for avionics in event of a generator failure. My previous A-7 models did not initially feature this, but I will be going back and reverse-engineering this design into them, along with the upgraded ventral airbrake and landing light.

Closeup of the armament typical of a A-7K training mission. Note the inert AIM-9 Sidewinder air to air missile on the fuselage launch rails, the 6 inert Mk 82 500lb Snakeye high-drag unguided bombs on a MER (Multiple Ejector Rack) on the middle pylons, and a single inert Mk 84 2000lb unguided bomb on the inner pylons. The outer pylons each hold an LAU-10 FFAR (Folding Fin Aerial Rocket) pod with 4 air to ground rockets apiece.

These models are great. Do you ever post the LDD files? I've been having some trouble with landing gear on one of my models, and I think your design might help me out. Thanks!
