USMC UH-1Y Venom
The USMC has for years relied on the UH-1N as the backbone in its helicopter fleet. But as times changed and these helis aged, they needed a change, and Bell delivered with the all new UH-1Y Venom "Super Huey"
About this creation
This build has been updated!

Visit the new version HERE

Here is my LDD build of the US Marine Corps' UH-1Y Venom, or as it is know in the Corps, the "Yankee". Created to replace the USMC's aging fleet of UH-1N "Twin Huey" Iroquois helicopters, Bell responded with the perfect helicopter that kept the legendary Huey bloodline alive.

Updated with improved avionics, new engines, and 4 bladed composite main and tail rotors, the Venom is the new work horse for the Marine Corps.

Armed with GAU-17 miniguns, as well as 7 or 19 slot LAU-61 Hydra-70 rocket pods, the UH-1Y is one bad ass heli!

The model can also take 5 armed minifigs into battle, with 1 pilot and 1 copilot.

It features many other details, such as opening and closing forward cabin doors, and the chin mounted optics bubble

Here is the same heli, represented in a few varying camo types. None of these actually exist, but they are interesting prototype designs!

From all Angles, the Venom is one badass flying machine ;)

Quoting Luke V Yeah... I can see the problem there. I would like pictures of the front, upper rotor, landing skies (belly shot), and the rear curve around. Those are the areas that are troubling me. I think the middle piece of the front window would actually be the same size as the other pieces now that I looked at another picture. http://www.deagel.com/library1/medium/2011/m02011062600062.jpg On a side note, I think your helicopter isn't really mini-figure scale. The front cockpit seems kind of small for a mini-figure to fit. I think you should extent the front a little as in real life the helicopter cockpit is a little further from the small opening door.
I can assure you, it is minifig scale. I have tested it and minifigs fit into the interior and cockpit just fine. Also, the cockpit area once was one stud longer, but many people commented on the original design on my Flickr page saying they thought it was too long, so I shortened it. As for pictures, I will see what I can do when I have a break from classes and enough time to possibly get some screenshots together.

Quoting Luke V This is really good. The only things I see that can be improved are the landing skies and you could add some doors to the sides. Any how... could you email me the ldd file at vosburgh.luke@gmail.com? I would like to use some of your design techniques to fix the flaws on mine. Also check out my Super Huey when you get the chance.
Thanks! For the doors, I have tried to add them in before but my method for doors does not work on LDD, so I just left them out :P Same for the landing skids. They are something I kinda "helter-skelter" put together in LDD, but would DEFinately be improved IRL. As for sending the design, I don't really share my design files on things (sorry).

Quoting Luke V I would be glad to give you credit for anything that I used and even a link to your helicopter on my page. I would just like the ldd file so I can easily see how certain parts are put together. Any how, I would like to see more pictures of the front and main rotor if you still don't want to send the file. I am not the type of person who doesn't give credit or redistributes other peoples work.
Well thank you, and I understand haha. Most people are willing to credit me for anything they may use. I just had a design stolen once after I sent out the file to someone, and I have been skeptical of doing it again ever since. However, I would be willing to send screenshots and try to help you out on your build, as it is coming along quite well and I would love to see the finished product :)
