My entry for round four of The Tourney!
About this creation
The Tourney

Guild: Average Gnomes

Category: Robin Hood
Who doesn't admire the skillful archer with a witty sense of humor? "The Adventures of Robin Hood" was probably the most famous of all Robin Hood movies. Build a scene from the movie or your imagination of a scene from the main story plot. The build must feature Robin Hood. This is a pretty broad category, so have fun and get building!

I have never watched The Adventures of Robin Hood movie, so only reading the plot left me free to build however I thought the scene looked. There's one scene(s) in the movie that I read about in the plot summary that described Robin Hood taking part in an archery competition. At first I imagined, Robin Hood hunting down deer for the competition, but since I didn't have the expertise in building brick built animals, I settled for a plain old target.

Anyway, the build!

I was a bit dissatisfied with the rock wall, because of how and straight and it is. The rockwork itself I was pleased with, just not the layout on the wall.

Quoting TCB Man I like your attention to detail, especially on the rocks. Water looks a bit weird though, have you thought about putting it on a blue base?
Thanks TCB! I did, but I had no blue bases at the time.

Quoting Halhi 141 I actually agree with Freeling, 2x_ slopes tend to be too blocky and bland. They don't really work well in any style IMO, smooth builds are better with either 1x_ slopes spaced 1 plate apart vertically, curved slopes, or hinges, and more textured builds generally need more texture with 1x_ slopes...
Still, I don't really agree.

Quoting Freeling ++ Not that I should be one to critique rockwork or anything, because just recently I've started getting good at it.. But I've found that using the 2x2's, or the 2x3's often don't look very good.
Not sure whether to say thanks because of the like. Funny, I've actually found it looks a lot better, depending on the techniques used. Using them for studs up walls of rockwork is decent, but I find that using them in SNOTted rockwork and boulder like rockwork is where they can really excel. Not sure why people think negatively about 2 x 2 or 2 x 3 (etc) slope pieces, but this is just my two cents.

Quoting Grant Davis You did a great job with this, I felt as if it was a little to simple, I can tell where you started your rocks and finished in a straight line almost, even though the rocks were pretty decent, it is too square overall. I think your score was above the average score, but your opponents delivered even above that. Great job!
Thanks Grant! Hopefully with the judges advice, I can do a lot better in future builds and contest entries.

Quoting Armon Russ Man, this is a super build. The river is good, but it could use more angles. I like your mix of bley and dark grey for the water, and the rockwork is just fantastic. It looks very realistic. The foliage is nice, too. Amazing work.
Thanks Armon! Yeah, I did think the water was a bit boring, especially since it was only white.

Quoting ~ Brick That's pretty awesome, but I really hope you don't get points off for inaccuracy...the archer tournament took place in a large bare field:P
