Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, and I think it’s time to step out of the shadows. The reason I’ve waited so long is because of this camp I went on. Well, it’s not really a camp. Although we went to a camp-like place, all we did was sit around and talk about ‘you shouldn’t do this kind of stuff when you turn 18’ and so on. Basically, it was boring. Then there was driver education. We didn’t learn how to drive; we just sat around and listened to people talk about safety on the road. Well, now that both of those things are over, and my homework isn’t as piled up as it has been, I can now post this creation. I decided to make Ultra Magnus a little different from his Prime counterpart. The base figure is slightly redesigned compared to Optimus, and the trailer is a whole new model. So, sit back and relax as I show you this MOC. :)

So, here we have Ultra Magnus in his vehicle mode with his trailer attached to the back of the truck.

The hardest part of this model was re-creating the trailer style that was in the G1 cartoon. The robot mode was fine, considering how you can use a bit of creativity and imagination to make it look slightly different, but the trailer was not. It needed to look very similar, or at least bare a slight resemblance.

It was a lot easier to design than Prime in another sense, however. With the addition of the bending 1x4 pieces, I was able to create the model with a bit more creativity.

Compared to Optimus Prime (even with the DIAclone armour), Ultra Magnus is HUGE. Don’t worry, though. He’s still micro-scale.

Here’s Ultra Mangnus without the trailer. The front part of the truck becomes the front part of the combined mode later.

The arms have been changed to suit the armoured mode, and it also brings variety to the model instead of making this a simple repaint.

Aside from those changes, not much else is different.

In a size comparison with Prime, he’s only a little bigger.

The robot mode has a different transformation to Optimus, something that cannot be seen in the vehicle mode.

The torso section doesn’t twist around like Optimus until the armour addition comes into play. Also, the back section is slightly different. Although there was no need for such an adaption, it added variety.

There is no back section for a backpack to be added, because it is not needed in the upgrade.

Here’s a size comparison with Optimus Prime. You can see differences from the front…

…and from the back.

And now we’ll look at the trailer.

The trailer not only houses the armour, but also different weapons for both modes.

The only weapon that is visible in this mode is the flame sword. I wanted to make the hammer that he has in TFP, but I never got around to it.

The trailer can actually transform into a command base.

When you transform the figure, the shield and flame sword are revealed.

I got the idea for the command base from many of the commander class figures in the DOTM cyberverse line.

I think it looks a little like G1 Scorpinock, but whatever.

The remained of the trailer splits into ten elements. 8 (four on each side) convert into the armour of Ultra Magnus.

The other two act as weapons in the regular mode.

Ultra Magnus can hold them in his hands easily.

The first elements to attach are the back parts of the legs.

The parts on the back of the leg back parts fold in for the robot mode. The reason they’re there in the first place is for the trailer combining.

All you need to do is do the same thing you do with Optimus Prime.

You simply stick them on the back.

The second elements are the front parts of the legs.

They’re pretty similar when compared to Optimus Prime.

You take them…

…and peg them onto the front.

This is where the pieces are completely redesigned. The next pieces are Magnus’ shoulder-stacks, or whatever the hell you call them.

They click onto the robot with T-joint pieces.

You’ll notice the two clips on the front of the torso. They need to be on the back.

So, you twist around the torso…

…and twist around the lower arms. The twisting reveals the chestplate for the combined mode.

You can then attach the shoulder thingies.

The final two elements are the arms.

Using the 1x4 bending elements I was telling you about earlier, they bend at the elbow.

One of the weapons includes a flame sword (left over from the lego city firefighter pack that I got in the PAB order).

This weapon can fit in two different places.

Either the hand…

…or the peg above it.

The other weapon is a shield. I think I got the idea from WFC and FOC, but I’m not sure.

The peg on this doesn’t allow it to go on the peg above the hand, but it still works.

The offset bricks on the sides are for the trailer mode, so that it can fit in the middle.

The sheild fits in like so.

You’ll need to push in the hands (like the one on the right (your right, his left), not the one on the left (your left, his right) before attaching the arms.

The arms should fit on like so. Sorry about not putting them in a cool pose. The elements supporting them are a little weak after all this use.

And here you have Ultra Magnus in his armour-combined glory!

In the G1 cartoon, I kinda felt sorry for him. Rodimus shouldn’t have gotten the matrix; he should have. Oh well, at least prime came back.

There’s no extra backpack on the back, but it still works fine.

Here’s a size comparison with Optimus Prime in his DIAclone armour. I think that Magnus looks a LOT better (except for the colours).

I forgot to show you this earlier, but this is the trailer adaptor.

The weapons for the regular robot mode work in the combined mode, but if you want they can be stored on the adaptor.

I took this idea from the G1 Optimus Prime Trailer.

I’m not sure if the Magnus trailer did it, but you can use this kickstand to move it in and out.

Here’s a shot of all Prime’s elements and all Magnus’ elements. You can also see the size comparison of the two adaptors. Magnus’ is a lot bigger. Anyway, that’s it for the IRL stuff.

Here’s the LDD file I designed.

The colours really bring out the Magnus within Magnus. I may get him for next year’s PAB order.

The LDD also includes the adaptor, so there’s no worries about that.

Using the hide tool we can look at the normal Magnus without the armour.

The back view shows what he’s look like normally. It works really well.

Well, that’s basically it! I’ll post the LDD file as soon as I am able to. Don’t forget to like, comment and add me as a fave builder, and as always, happy building! :)

Quoting Callan LoF Oh yeah, I'd love to hear your music for C'n'D. Hopefully we can set up a good way to communicate, be it Skype, Mibbet, etc. Hope we can work that out!
GREAT! I'll get onto making a simple 'stay at home talking' style song ASAP. As for communication, I'll try to sort that out. Who knows? Maybe I'll end up on the gallitor report for doing this someday? :P

Very unique technics! It's a shame you don't have the parts to color-correct him, but the transformation looks good! Nice work!

Quoting Vitor Faria This looks awesome in LDD, try to get the pieces, it will be worth it!
I might. It's at least nine months until I have to decide on the next PAB order. I'll have made up my mind by then...
