partly inspired by the replicators in Star Gate SG1
About this creation

Yesterday I was browsing through some of my old designs and spotted a "bakugan" inspired ball/crate transformer I'd designed. One of the comments mentioned they felt it didn't have a recognisable robot form, so I decided to take another crack at it.

The result actually reminds me a little of the replicators from SG1

The idea is that this is a "box" which unfolds into an insectoid robot.

A little animation to show the transformation in action.

I have some ideas for other "puzzle box" transformers. I kind of like the idea of these things being magic rather than robots. We will see, twork makes mocing a problem at the moment.

Quoting Bumblebee5253 . I like it a lot, and can you please tell me how you get those pictures like that? They have different backgrounds, and they're better quality than LDD screenshots. Thanks, sorry for the long comment (that's not about you're awesome creation.)
Not a problem, what I call spam is adverts and requests to look at other mocs. This is ok. The screen shots are in LDD, no special trickery involved. In the build mode if you press the ctrl key and the K key together it produces an image which, depending on the file sharing software and photo manipulation software you have either creates an image with NO background (GIMP is a good example of this) or a shaded background (Photoimpressions) or a white background (New MOCpages Uploader). Why is the quality of the images better than the basic LDD screen shots? In LDD if you have a powerful enough graphics card you can adjust the image quality in the settings. In Build Mode select EDIT, then Preferences and then (if you can) tick all the boxes with the term "High-Quality Rendering" next to them. My old Windows XP laptop doesn't have these options but my new Windows 7 one does.

Quoting David Roberts Sorry! Now I look at this on my laptop instead of my 'phone, it does look gold!
No need to apologise, one of the things about ldd (when compared to pov ray) is that metallic shades aren't "shiny" enough.

Quoting David Roberts I think that this is great. I like the tan colour, which works well both as wood and as an insect colour. The idea of a crate being delivered somewhere and then slowly unfolding in a dark warehouse is brilliant. I like the sort-of magic box effect.
The colour is actually gold, but the render doesn't show this very well, but the idea of it being wood does make more sense. I'm thinking of doing a few more designs like this, but it depends on time and whether the engineering in my head translates to LDD. sometimes I get a joint design I think will work and it just doesn't.
