About this creation
My opponent Kai Bernstein
Freeling dropped out and Kai is filling in for him.

Alex Rode vs. Freeling ++
Battle of the Bards:
The Herald of the Year award is nearly decided, but the voters are at an impasse. Fortunately, you have a plan to influence them - you will pay a minstrel to sing your praises (loudly). Make up or choose a song that fits your greatness (you will not be judged on lyrical ability as long as you have something) and either build some of the events contained within or show the singer at work in front of a crowd. If you choose to include multiple scenes, incorporate them into a single form on one baseplate.

Guild: Average Gnomes

Something terrible happened as I was about to take pictures: my camera ceased to work. So I had to grab a phone to take pictures, which is why they are immensely poor quality.

Okay, let's get to this. I am not a poet, haha. So I will sum up what the poem is saying: My character is scouting when he sees a group of Crimson Knights charging to a little town because they like to destroy things without meaning. He runs as fast as he can to the town and alerts some of the soldiers who are . . . having a good time in the local in. They stumble out and beat the Crimson Knights! But in poetry form . . .

So I am av'rage
Or so they allege
Today I will prove
That I fit the groove!

So there I did run
This time not for fun
News that was urgent -
Chaos was emergent!

A raid on its way
And we were the prey!
We had no defense
Nor very much sense.

We were vuln'rable
Escape was impossible!
Now it was my job
To prevent the mob!

I ran my fastest,
Surprised that I lasted!
I got to the leader
Who was the town keeper

I warned him urgently
So we few charged out forcefully
And with determination
And not much duration

We defeated the men!
And ever since then
They have counted on me
To deliver what I see

So vote for me!

The build . . .

What can I say? Other than the textures on the lower half of the buildings, I didn't really like this build. It could have been much better but my 10 days were full to the top. Everyone of them except for Saturday. This was rushed, and the final project shows it.

Quoting Armon Russ Yeah, the landscaping is spread out a little more than liked, but you did well for such a large sized MOC! I especially like your buildings. And a crossover is when you include another person's character in your LOM story along with your own. ;) Hope that helps, and nice work.
Thanks a bunch, Armon! Glad you liked it. Ooh, that's cool. Thanks for the info!

Quoting Isaiah Marc You are constantly making something new! This is an incredible build! I thought I commented on this but I guess not :( Sorry! This is a great design, and adding an extra building makes this creation come to life. Great detail, personally I think that your contest entry is better LOL :D
Thanks very, very much man! Hope to see some creations from you :)

Quoting Gilbert Despathens To start with, Kai had the advantage on presentation and photography. Alex, I couldn't make out some details of the houses, which looked like your entry's strong point. I also have to give Kai the NPU award for his pillar, even though his lava was a little suspect, and that wins him my vote. In the future, both of you might consider color mixing, because both entries had some flat, monotone spaces like your grass and Kai's burnt village. Nevertheless, you both have my congratulations on your homespun sagas and making it this far in the Tourney.
I couldn't agree more - thanks Gilbert.

Quoting Fraser Robinson This was incredibly difficult to judge, both entries are very detailed and simply well built. Although you had some great buildings your opponent wins my vote with his stellar rock work, great tone/feel and a well thought out and executed idea. In all honesty I'm a little disappointed in this build, it just seems sort of routine for you (a few good buildings, some landscaping, etc.). On the other hand your opponent executed an idea I have never seen before, and so that originality really is the icing on the cake for Kai. Don't get me wrong this is a good build, I would just like to see you maybe venture out of your comfort zone in the future. Good luck with the other judges! One last thing, I know I've already asked however I saw ~Brick decline Zach's offer, so is there any more news on your MA team? Thank you.
I agree completely - I haven't been going out of my comfort zone. As for the MA team, we're full, I'm pretty sure.

Quoting Kai Bernstein Nice build! The texturing and building designs are great, as is that bit of rockwork. It's main problem is the size, I think - it's such a large build that the landscaping was spread thinly, and as a result didn't come out as well as it might have (though it's still quite good). And please...I pleaded with Halhi on this as well...don't use square 1x1 tiles as path or ground texturing! :P 1x1 plates, square or round, look much better.
I couldn't agree more - thank you very much Kai! You always have the very best advice!

Quoting Lindel Baskin Looks good, Alex, especially considering your limited building time. I actually think the houses came out pretty good. I really like the stone part! The top half of the larger building might look better with only one wooden plank and each side, but other than that they're not bad. My main critique is actually the landscape, which seems a little flat in some places. Overall, great work, and good luck!
Thanks so much for the feedback, Lindel! Something I'm struggling with is finding something between flat, boring landscapes and overgrown, repetitive landscapes. Thanks again!
