About this creation
Bracket: Wrestling
Infernum's Build: Here.
Guild: Hand of Defiance!
Category:- Championship
The competition is narrowing down to the best of the best. This time, engage in an actual wrestling match in the bracket semifinals - and take it seriously, because TV style is SO last-round. Flair and intimidation are fair game, but keep some dignity and focus on the awe-inspiring might of your opponents, be they minifigure or something not-so-mini.

Qinon had advanced in the tourney from last round. He had been happy at first, but then he had found out whom he was facing...
He would have to wrestle his opponent in a stone arena a small distance away from Carthal. The stone arena had been created by a powerful mage precisely for this event, though, Qinon was pretty sure, other matches would be held here too. It was for that reason, because it had been created by powerful magic, that the arena was solely one color. And that was also why the walls were only minimally weathered, if at all.

Now Qinon stood in the ring, facing his opponent. This was going to be a really hard fight. It was not probable that Qinon would get out without any injuries, and there was only a meager chance of winning the match: Qinon's opponent was a half-giant.
Whether the man was, in fact, actually half giant and half man, Qinon did not know. But the man was certainly the right size. And he was bristling with pure muscle.
Qinon looked closely at the man's face. He could discern nothing about his opponent there. The face was like a mask, unmoving, frozen in an expression that Qinon could not place.
The man did not speak. He did not move. Only his chest heaved as he breathed. the half-giant was all pent-up energy, a giant spring that would shoot away with the speed of lightning when released. The half-giant would be very, very hard to beat. Qinon tensed up, ready to lunge aside as soon as his opponent attacked.

"Begin!" the knight on the podium shouted.
And the giant man charged.

Now on to some pictures! I could have theoretically had a longer story, but the ring is insanely hard to photograph, so I left it at this...

Some of the crowd. Look, there's even an Average Gnoľ aaaah!

The two Halidra watching are given a wide berth...

A picture of the whole moc. I used up nearly all of my dark gray for the base, and nearly all my light grey for the Arena. The base is there to compliment the ring part below the crowd (I know, it's not that many people, whatever). And so that I could include some funny stuff...

Another side view. I think this is one of the best views I have of the tree. This is the first barrel tree I tried, but obviously nothing special.

The Arena! It used up all of my light grey tiles. That led to some trouble when I added the seats, but I managed to solve it...

Gold!!!

My base was a little more fancy this time than it usually is. I really like it. Note the shields. The Hand of Defiance!!!

Below ground, in the catacombs...

Crimson Knight: "I wish I'd brought a Map!"

Gnome: "I wish I'd brought a torch!"

***

Artistic shot! (notice how, even though it looks purely black and white, it still looks pretty cool?)

The corridor through which the contestants enter. It comes from the catacombs... Or perhaps it just wasn't made of magic, unlike the rest of the arena?

The back of the roof over the entry-point. 'Dis be the fattest roof I ever seen...

Another artistic shot. I really love this roof. It just looks awesome, and maybe a little "elfish"?

The inside of the arena. The round shape really gave me trouble.

I recommend you look close in this picture, so that you can see just how hard it was to get that all right: cheese slopes, cones, claws, and rods were all needed to shape the seats.

The round wall around the ring is the gem of the build: My very own technique. Ever since I read what Gilbert said in his TT Intro (the inro was just for fun, as I recall), that any builder worth his or her salt has invented a new way to make a round wall, I have been trying to find one. Unless this has been used before somewhere that I am not aware of, this should be my own design. So now I've got all the technicalities straight for being a builder worth my salt. :P

The Half-giant. I got the basic design from somewhere else, but I made multiple changes to accommodate the yellow skin better.

The two opponents.

***

Since I basically said everything about this moc under the pictures already, I'll just sum it up again. I made my own round wall technique and did some crazy awesome stuff with the seats. I used up all of my dark gray bricks, all of my dark green plates (I don't have that many), all of my light gray plates, tiles and _x1 bricks, and so on. I made an awesome figure, constructed the whole thing so that taking photos of a lengthy wrestling scene is basically impossible, and made my first barrel tree. And a fancy border.

Let me say that I think this is probably one of my best mocs, and definitely one of the ones I spent the most time and effort on. My editing for the pictures still needs lots of practice, but I've got the basics down. I am really happy to have made it this far, and I anticipate that whether I get into the tilt or not, it will be extremely close. Toa Infernum, you are an awesome opponent. Good luck.

So, how was the curved wall done? I'm not really a fan of the use here, but it might be interesting if one were to adapt the design a bit...

Nice! I like the figures. The photography is quite good considering you couldn't get down into the arena to take the shots.

Quoting Cheryl P A nicely built arena. The curved walls are terrific. The inside is also well done too.
Thanks!

Quoting Graham Gidman I'm a big fan of the arena, but the detailing in your opponent's entry won me over, and he get's my vote.
I agree, I could have done better on the detailing. I guess I know what I will work on next time...

Quoting David FNJ I agree, that round arena with the round stands is pretty sweet! Great work! I like the opening gate into the arena (at least I assume it opens because of the hinges). The opponent was quite awesome! In the end, though, my vote goes to your opponent. I liked his landscaping more so than your great arena. Good luck with the other judges.
I'm glad you liked the arena. The doors do not actually quite open all the way, tough, just enough to barely sqeeze a minifig through.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga Even though the seats and landscaping are a little plain, there are lots of great details tucked in here! The round wall design looks quite good, as does the roof, and the gates are a very elegant addition. Nice job!
Thanks! I need to get more masonry bricks and the likes, as well as more dark green plates...

Quoting Halhi 141 Pretty nice but I don't like the excessive use of loose pieces. The round wall is interesting though, how did you do it? The giant looks good, but more as a sci-fi creature, not as a medieval one. All in all pretty decent, but not one of your best, IMO.
I see what you mean. I wish I could have connected the loose parts, or at least held them in place more firmly, but that would have made it even more complicated. The giant does look more like a hard-suit than a giant... As for the wall, I will probably reveal it in one of my near future mocs. ;)

Quoting Jackal :] I love this MOC a lot, it is great, however toa had an amazing story and MOC, but it's really hard who to vote for, I love the roundness of your arena, but toa's was really cool as we'll, balanced on that rock, to be honest, I think you have my vote, good luck!
I thought it would be hard... I personally could not decide between them If I would have to vote. I'm glad you like it.
