TT round 3: Adam Brunsting VS. Halhi 141
My bracket is foot combat and I represent the Council of the Dragon.
About this creation
My opponents page: Link My category:
The Rail
The foot combatants have greatly advanced, mostly murdering each other in out-of-the-arena duels. Fortunately, this time the action takes place in front of a crowd in an orderly fashion. With the stands at your back, duel across the fence that goes down the middle of the Tilt lane and best your opponent in a fair fight.
Please read the story. Stephen: Welcome! Welcome to the semifinals of foot combat! I'm your host, Stephen the Bull knight, but my bull armor is getting washed, so please bear with the wolf armor. Today we have an exciting match-up, Spine the Super Awesome, and Halbert the not quite as awesome as Spine!

“Spine walks out in his awesome combat armor, and... AH! what is Halbert wearing! It looks like some crimson long-underwear! Avert your eyes kids!”

“Well, an official just informed me that the crimson long-underwear is actually a magical speedo. Usually, we don't allow magic in foot jousts like this, but I for one would rather have Halbert keep his speedo on. Well, apparently the crowd loves the speedo, or are just cheering for the guild Halbert is representing, the Average Gnomes! Spine over there is representing the Council of the Dragon. What a boring name. It should be Firey Vanquishers, but that's just me.”

“Since both guilds favor the color red, the officials of the Carthal Joust Arena strung a flag chain of red. I bet the Mythron officials didn't like that.”

“The opponents take their sides, each on opposite sides of the rail, with Mr. Gnomie on the left and Mr. Super awesome on the right. They each visited the weapon storage room prior to the joust, and it looks like both favor swords roped to metal sticks.”

“A drum is sounded and the competitors rush toward each other. Halbert pulls out an extra sword! That would be against the rules, if there were any.”

“It looks like Spine has no strategy except for 'stick pointy end into enemy before he does it to me'. Halbert on the other hand, seems to use the speedo's enhanced agility to dodge Spine's viscous attacks. Halbert definitely has more skill, but Spine hangs in there with his superior endurance.”

“Yikes! It looks like Spine just broke the only rule of the game! He broke the rail! Ah. sorry. a spectator commented that before, I said that the game had no rules. Carry on Spine!”

“Halbert is wearing down, and retreats into the weapon storage place! that isn't even part of the stadium! Lucky for both opponents that there are no rules.”

“I'm not sure what is going on in there, but a lot of twangs and clashes can be heard from out here!”

“Yikes! The opponents emerge, and Halbert unsheathes two knives, and digs them into the wall and starts climbing! Spine follows close behind, like a tiger, not going to let its prey escape easily!”

“Well, I, for one, think this duel is getting a little close for comfort. The combatants have reached the top of the wall, and are fighting atop the wall! A few Mythron guards come forward to try to break up the two. Maybe the fight is getting a little out of hand...”

“Halbert jumps of the wall, landing lightly on his feet, thanks to the magical speedo. Spine is not so lucky...”

“Halbert tries to pin Spine, but Spine rolls out of the way.”

“The two chase after each other, and scare some innocent bystanders into fleeing, calling out for their mommies! The fight could get dangerous real fast, Spine and Halbert are fighting a bit close to a fire pit.” *

*Kids, never have sword fights near a fire pit

“Whoa! Spine busts a move, throwing his daggers, forcing Halbert to dodge, and then allowing Spine to get a grip on Halbert. Spine lifts Halbert off the ground, and makes ready to throw Halbert into the fire pit!” *I whistle to Spine* “Hold! We all know that you have beat Halbert, and there is no need to give Halbert further wounds. You may keep him pinned until some Mythron guards come and take him away.”

“Well folks, it looks like our unexpected champion has beat Halbert, and now you may all go home. Any nightmares about this event are to no fault to us, so please don't come crying to us. See y'all next event!”

Quoting Graham Gidman In the sense of classic building, I don't know anyone who does it like you do, but in the end, I found Halhi's entry more interesting, and he has my vote. Better luck next year!
Meh. Predictable.

Quoting David FNJ Both of you put up an impressive build this round! Unfortunately I have to choose one. What I liked about your build were the wall textures and the nice landscaping. For me the landscaping was pretty equal for what was shown (overgrown vs. not overgrown). For me it came down to the details and techniques for the walls. While yours was large and more weathered, your opponent arguably had more interesting walls with the arches, indentations, and some SNOT on the inside (very little on the outside). Not as much texture as yours, but he made up for it with the interesting variations I mentioned. In the end, your opponent has my vote. Still, what you have here is great! Good luck with the other judges.
Uh. Rats. I just don't have the parts for more complicated walls.

Quoting Gilbert Despathens This might come as a surprise, but I think I might agree with Aaron. Halhi's a good builder, but you faced him on your own ground. Not many people can pull of a castle scene like this very well, but you did it without losing anything by keeping interiors. My favorite parts have to be the fire pit (I've noted the ring technique of corner bricks, but I've never been able to use it) and the wild area in the corner that's nearly cut off by the walls. This is a vast improvement on your last entry, and I wish you luck with your judges.
Thanks! The fire pit was a table scrap I thought looked cool, so I included it.

Quoting Halhi 141 Oh wow, this is impressive, I'll have to make some last-minute additions to my entry if I want to have a decent shot at this. I see you have a few 1x2 light bley bricks :P My sole concern is that while it's huge, a closer look reveals missing detail and somewhat basic techniques. The layout, however, is still great, just I think the detail could be better.
I actually have 500 light bley 1x2s.
