The Type-102 “Dragon” MBT is a tank model used by the Greater People’s Republic (GPR). Initially developed and manufactured by Norinco it is a further development of the Type-100 MBT. However, with the unification of Korea, it provided the alliance with much newer and better South Korean technology. This makes the tank on par with the MBT of the Russian Federation, but it is still somewhat inferior to European Alliance tanks.
About this creation

History

The development of the Type-102 began early 2015, when the central command of the People’s liberation army requested Norinco to develop a replacement for the Type-100 MBT and the older Type-99 MBT. The prototype presented in 2017 was more or less an enlarged version of the Type-100 tank and heavily relied on copied Russian technology. As an ancient Chinese tradition this prototype also followed the philosophy of quantity over quality.

However with the events in the years that followed, like the introduction of ‘the Modern way’ reforms, China and unified Korea agreed to design and manufacture one tank design as the main battle tank for the GPR. Norinco worked closely together with Hyundai to develop the suspension, the active defence system and several electronic equipment like the new target acquisition system.

The result of this joint venture is the Type-102 “Dragon” MBT, which became the main tank for all GPR member countries.

Armament

The Type-102 uses a 125mm smoothbore cannon, and a .50 caliber heavy machine gun as its secondary armament. The .50 caliber gun is useful for clearing out small packs of infantry and RPGs.

The unique feature of this tank are its anti-air capabilities. The two 2X2 rocket tubes can either fire short range anti-air missiles or can be equipped with anti-vehicle rockets, depending on mission type. This made the demand for an specialized anti-air vehicle lower.

Protection

While the armour is classified it has been revealed it consist of ERA blocks and experimental Korean composite armors.

Propulsion

The 1500HP engine gives this tank a decent speed of 65 km/h on roads and is claimed to be 50 km/h on cross country. Being around 60 metric tons this tank has a power to weight ratio of 25 hp/ton.

The maximum gun depression

Unlike Mr. Stahlmans design this tank does have an independent suspension based on this design, which works quite good.

It is noted that these tanks can run over unarmed demonstrators even better than the ‘crap’ from 1989.

And to entertain you all I added a panda, just for funsies

NOTES: I would like to thank the following persons for helping me to create this MOC:

John Stahlman for the design itself

Matthew Sylvan for helping me with the description and advice for the photography

How could I not like it?! You took my design and made it much better with the working suspension and engine detail from my Type-120. Your reverse engineering skills are formidable!

Ah, what a delightful engine of destruction. So much super detail. That Power plant, and the sensor pod on top of the turret. Wow, and the excellent shape of the armor skirting. All well done. Nice job with the negative declination on the main gun as well. Attack!

Quoting Tommy S. Great tank, it's good to see other people using my suspension setup. Did you use weights in the chassis because I used 2 lego counterweights and that improved the suspension.
Thanks dude, the suspension is a little different, most of the stuff is on the outside and the liftarms are longer, It doesn't need counterweights because it works fine without them. I got the idea after looking at yours ;)

A nice rendition of the design, looks refreshed and updated and still awesome. The suspension included is awesome indeed, even I might use it one day.

Quoting Thomas of Tortuga One of the best tanks I've seen! The suspension and the angled bodywork make this look very dangerous, as do the Exo-force stickers. Is that just regular tan? For some reason, it looks more yellowish to me.
Many thanks ;), the tan is indeed regular but the pictures are edited to make them look more "fresh". The side effect is that the tan looks more yellowish.
