2013-14 Middle Earth Lego Olympics
Quote: “We tells him to go away, and away he goes! Gone! Gone! Smeagol is free!”

Fred recently became a Christian, but he's been having touble staying away from drinking and petty thefts near The Barrel Salon. However, today was different. As he was passing by The Barrel, the temptation grew more and more. But then he remembered something his pastor said that past Sunday:
"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you - James 4:7"
and
"that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to deceitful lusts - Ephesians 4:22"

Finally, Fred says NO! And he walks away, not aware of the battle that had been won in the spiritual realm over his life. Fred was free!

His old companions watched him go....

Fred, like Smeagol, put off the old self, and resisted what was evil, and the evil went away from their lives. Unfortunately for Smeagol, Gollum came back. However, Fred has Jesus on his side, so he has the power to continue to resist! I hope you enjoy this! God Bless!

Perfect creation with a great message, though I would've preferred a more Lord of the Rings-ey theme considering the theme of the competition. Good luck!

madness, the buildings are so lovingly built. So many details, I have 30 minutes needed to capture everything. I love the garbage and all the small details on the roofs. I also like the building ventilation. a great MOC

While your opponent has gotten my vote for his genuinely impressive scene, I definitely have to applaud your creative interpretation of the category and especially the message that you've illustrated. The truth you're communicating is far more valuable than any contest's trophy. Keep it up!

Quoting Max Pointner While your entry was certainly a clever and relevant take on the category and a great build, Elliot's beast takes the cake and my vote. I congratulate you none the less for highlighting the Christian themes that Tolkien portrayed in his book. Way to be an ambassador for Christ!
Thanks Max!

Quoting Michael K. Nice take on the assignment. Npu on the street grate. I love the angles in the buildings. Really great job!!!!!
Yeah, the angles on that one was definitely one of my favorite parts of this build (and one of the most annoying to get it to fit right, haha!).

Quoting David . Awesome David! :D The details in the alley, the front of the builds and the side walks is amazing! I can't really say anything else without over-doing it, so good job. You can think of what else I'd say. :D
Thanks David! I really enjoyed this build, and I'm glad you like it as well :D

Quoting Elliott Feldman David, I hope my last comment didn't seem mean, because I wasn't trying to be. I was thinking though, it would have been cool if you could have at least built this in a medieval setting. The bar could be the Prancing Pony, and you could build some other parts of Bre. Maybe next time! :) Anyways, I just want to let you know that the only part I don't like about these contests is that sometimes I move on when another really good builder doesn't. Sure I guess that's sort of the way contests should go, but if we could both continue on that would be awesome! So thanks for being a worthy opponent! And remember: just keep building!
I admit I was a bit confused at first, thanks for the clarification! For this round I was going more for of the "outside the box" for what would be expected for a Middle Earth contest. Yeah, a castle-themed build could have definitely worked, but I opted for something unexpected instead. Believe it or not, I have very little knowledge of LOTR as I haven't seen the movies nor read the books (I know, shame on me). I have, though, played the LEGO LOTR videogame XD So inspiration from LOTR is kind of limited. Maybe one day I'll feel like reading LOTR, but I'm not much of a reader. I'd rather build than read books XD Yup, that would be awesome! There's always next year! Same to you! Thanks, and good luck in the rest of the contest!

Great entry David! The alleyway is great. Nice fence technique too! The air duct on the top of that one building is easily recognizable. The other architectural features on the other buildings are also fantastic. How you posed the spiritual figures is also nice too. It's great how you were able to take a spiritual route for this build.

Like I said in my post, I'm glad you have the guts to build stuff like this. The build's pretty solid (there's some really interesting architecture in there), but I feel like it fits the category a little too loosely. I mean, while this is great, it IS a Middle Earth competition. But I digress. Good job anyway and good luck!
