Hill House
A microscale rendition of a modern family home.
About this creation

The design's my own, but students of mid 20th century modernist architects will spot the influences...

Side window detail... (You thought I'd shut up for once ? Ha! Wrong...)

The roof comes off in two sections...

.. to reveal three bedrooms, a study and a bathroom on the first floor. There's a shower room for the master, too.

The large living room, with lots of lovely daylight. And a piano.

Neat idea for a globe. Of Mars, apparently.

The kitchen's fitted out, although you'll need small fingers to get at it... Could be worse; the garage and playroom are totally inaccessible! A doll's house this ain't. I still felt the need to furnish the playroom, although I stopped short of building a car to seal up in the garage...

I'd love to tell you that form follows function, but that'd be lying... I came up with the shape first. The front would face North - the big windows and skylight facing South would flood the interior with light. Probably.

IKEA had a sale on...

I really enjoyed designing and making this, thanks for viewing.

I must admit, I could have never an architect. It is so painful for me to design something. So... When I see your creations. WOOOW! Very interesting work on the roof and interiors. I like how you integrated the famous "circle technic" in the global design. Chairs, sofa, tables etc. are made with some delicate attention.

A really cool piece of work here, Nick. I love the way you mixed up the color in the outer walls, and I nice adaptation of the curved wall technique that you see so often in castle builds. I also love the clean interior. Top notch work.

Very nice house! I'm not usually a big fan of modern architecture but this style is very pleasing to the eye, and you captured it well. I like the tall window columns, the curved wall and the surprisingly detailed interior. The choice of color is very much an icon of this type of architecture too :-)

Love it! I have full confidence in your architectural sensibilities, as you already know. I would say stepping out with your own design is working well. And that partly V shaped roof invites some idea about rain water catchment for eco-friendly so on ... But your claims about the empty garage? You're testing us. OK, I've made this joke before, I'll move on ...

The architecture on this looks great Nick! All of the little tiny furniture is perfect. But I have to admit I'm a little dissipointed there isn't a car in the garage. :P The scale is really nice as well. 5/5 John

Not only Corbusier and Mackintosh, but also a healthy dose of Prairie style and Miles van der Rohe with the rooflines and big glass walls. Extremely clean design and that round façade makes the abrupt angles on the back really pop. Interesting contrast that blends quite beautifully. It's equally pleasant to be able to imagine this house placed in any environment, nature or city. Excellent!

Wow, Nick, this is amazing, and if it isn't modeled after some real house, it demonstrates quite a bit of architectural prowess. The unique, curving façade is unlike anything I've seen before, and the interior details are magnificent. I particularly like the open-air design with the exposed second-story hallway. The pieces of furniture all looks great as well. A top-notch effort all around.

Quoting Henrik Jensen Nice building, the curved facade and the roof provides a modernist expression that looks fantastic. The interior is also excellent, I like IKEA. Does the roof connect onto the walls, or is it resting loosely on top?
Thanks Henrik. The roof just rests on top; the tiles around the edge slot it into place and conceal the gap around the tops of the walls. I like IKEA too...

Quoting MortalSwordsman . When I read Hill House I instantly thought of Macintosh but when I saw the pictures I thought Le Corbusier. Lovely design with clean lines and even a curve. Fantastic furniture too.

Wow Nick ! This is amazing. This house defies the hardest things to do in lego ! I love the roof angles and curve over the rounded front. I like the use of the tiles to cover the gaps in the roof line very clever. The interior is fantastic . I did not expect to see this much detail in his scale but wow! I love the little piano and those little chairs are amazing. I also like all the art work on the walls. Absolutely magnificent !
