>>PROJECT 12<< Knight's Kingdom 2/LOM: Powder of Decay
About this creation
Welcome to the build for January of >>PROJECT 12<<

Project 12 is a project that will last through all of 2014, in which I make one build for each month, and each build will be based on a non-licensed theme by Lego. You can vote in the Project 12 Group on which theme I will use each month.

This build was based on Knight's Kingdom 2, and what I did was take the gate and the scorpion catapult of the Castle of Morcia, built them, and then revised them with newer parts to get a better look, but keep the functionality. My aim was, so to say, to improve the gate and the catapult. Then, to top it off, I made a Diorama to showcase them.

***

King Mathias, Danju and Rascus stand guard at the Gate, defending it from Vladek and a Shadow Knight, and, of course, the catapult.

Left-view...

Right-view...

Figless diorama. The Landscape on Vladek's side of the gate is black, the landscaping on King Mathias' side is green...

"Rejoice, for when thou cross the gate at the blue banners, thou arriveth at the Kighdom of King Mathias, the Kingdom of Good!"

The gate. If you have the set, or have seen the sets, or even look at pictures, it quickly becomes obvious that I changed some stuff... First of all, I put another spike where the holding mechanism for the bars was. I made the battlements entirely light bley, and replaced the black and white in the flame-holders. I added the torched to the flames, and tiled the battlement detail at the sides of the gate. And I added the axes instead of the spears to get the colors more matching.

And the holding-mechanism for the gate still works!!! That took me a few minutes to figure out, but the answer is really simple.

"Beware, for when thou passeth through the gate at the blood-red banners, though crosseth into the realm of Vladek, to the lands of darkness..."

Yup, the other side of the gate.

Landscaping... I'm really getting good at it now. It comes easier every time...

More landscaping. Black landscaping looks surprisingly good, it is just hard to really use anywhere...

And the Road. Pretty basic, but it does the job...

The scorpion catapult! Again, it is heavily revised. The claws are changed, The body is made sleeker and the eyes changed, the function part is sleeked out, and the wheels are black instead of dark grey.

The gripper-claw-thingies... I even added some mandibles at the base of them to give it a more scorpion-like look, although I don't know if scorpions actually look that way... it does it's job, though.

The head of the catapult. I even added spikes to the wheels...

The back part. The connection to the moving part that allows for the function is strengthened, so that you can hit it harder. You can't move it as far though, but maybe that is better...

Load aaaaaaand...

Fire!!!!

The bad guys.

The good guys.

Emmet!!!

Now, finally, the LOM part of the build. I think I can count this as a freebuild, even though it was primarily meant for something else. I certainly hope so. If not, I (or maybe one of the admins) will remove the creation from the LOM group.

Shcrazcss, Natilus and Taur had made it safely out of the storm in the heights of Bodus. They had lost their Archer though, and were back to doing things on their own. their most recent mission, payed by a rich Rainosian, was to poison local Mythronian fields. After having dispatched the guard at the gate, Shcrazcss set straight to work, strewing a powder over the fields on both sides. A few seconds after the powder touched the plants, they started to decay, wilting until they were just black dust sitting on both sides of the road...
The group had finished the first of seven local fields assigned to them. Now they would have to get to the next...

The main part of this build was the revision of the catapult and gate. I personally think that Knight's Kingdom 2 used way too many big parts and way too many colors that did not match (just personal opinion, guys!), and I really enjoyed revising them. The diorama was thrown out pretty quick, but I spent a while trying to get the figs exactly like they were when I got the set. Please don't comment on the bad editing in the main picture, I had mediocre lighting...

Well, I hope you enjoyed this creation, I hope you liked this, I hope this can be counted as an LOM freebuild, and don't forget to check out Project 12!!!

Edit: Don't forget to vote on the theme for the February >>PROJECT 12<< build!

Hey, your Outlaw buddies are alive! The scene looks better than any of the sets, but I miss the stylized, neutral-colored layering - it was the first style I mastered back in the day.

Nice work. Although it's not realistic, the black ground really helps create the mood for the evil kingdom;)
