L. Rivendell Museum of Natural History
Firstly, this build is up on LEGO's CUUSOO site: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/57773, so if you like it, please take a moment to go vote for it! Thanks! This is my first 100% original modular building. I have built one other, but the footprint and basic design were based on the Lego Pet Shop set. This is a "maxi-modular", in that it's on a 48x48 baseplate. That makes it one and a half buildings wide, and again as deep so it will stick out in the back when placed with other modulars. The sidewalks and building fronts do however line up. The reason I built this building, and why I made it so big is the fact that I had these dinosaurs hanging around from some of the older sets, and had no idea what to do with them. Then I eventually decided to build a museum to put them in. There are lots of little details, and I had a lot of fun coming up with other things to add to displays. I ran into a number of challenges along the way (such as resolving the atrium on the second floor), but overall it was a lot of fun. PS: The name of the museum has nothing to do with LotR. It is in fact named after one of my very best friends in the world.

Best modular I've seen anywhere, period. Strongly evokes the museum experience at every turn. The cabinetry is especially impressive.

Quoting david drake I would buy this CUUSOO set for whatever Lego priced it at. Also, more importantly, this is one of those MOCs that at first glance, has me right clicking on that link by your name to make you one of my favorite builders. At first glance, but the subsequent pics don't disappoint. I want real-time email updates on your MOCs!! This is a magnificent piece of architecture, to put it mildly. All those round components really appeal to the lover of all buildings non-rectilinear in me. KUDOS!!!
Wow! Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like my design. It was a lot of work, and a bit of a leap of faith, especially where the atrium was concerned.

The interior really makes the model - it is the size my museum needs to properly fit everything I want to go inside.

Great interiors. I often have a hard time making rooms too small for such details.

Quoting Brick Bert This is amazing, there are so many great details on this, everything is really well deigned and put together. Each picture has something new to look at. I especially like the shape of the otside top floor where the wall joins on to the atrium. Also i like how you've put access to the roof in as well. And the security guard is cool, he definatley looks like he's checking things out. Brilliant!
Hey thanks! Haha, the security guard was a last minute addition when I decided to add some visitors for some of the pictures.

You are wrong. This set does have something to do with LOTR. It inspired at least one builder to make something a creation with the same name, but based on the age of man in Tolkien's universe.

Fantastic details on the build. I travel to real dinosaur displays in museum frequently, and you really captured the experience with the highly detailed displays.

This is SO brilliant!! The outside architecture is very well done, with plenty of awesome details - though one can always argue the beauty of modern architecture. The inside is extremely well done, from the main display and decor on the walls of the first floor, to the gift shop and many very fine displays upstairs. With it's array of great details, this build should be a set in the modular buildings series :-)

Wow! This is simply stunning work. It is definitely one of the best modular buildings I have seen. The round second-floor atrium and the details in the interior are absolutely fantastic.
