G1 Micro DIAclone Armour For Optimus Prime (Pickabrick January/February 2014 5/9)
On my birthday two years ago (even though it says it was a day after due to timezone differences) I posted a special MOC that was the world’s smallest G1 Optimus Prime that is still recognisable. The record may have been taken from me, but as far as I can tell all the others are simply three bricks put together, and that’s not very Prime-like in my opinion. My MOC has definite arms, legs and a head. I eventually made a DIAclone upgrade for him, but I didn’t buy it until now. Although the upgrade makes him too big to be eligible for the smallest category, it looks really cool on him. I was planning on getting the G1 trailer instead, but that was too expensive. So, here is the DIAclone upgrade. For those who don’t know what DIAclone is, it was a line that pre-dates any existing ‘Transformers’. It was in Japan, and when America took over the line many of their toys were just re-paints of existing DIAclone figures. Optimus Prime was meant to have an upgrade like this, but it was saved for another re-paint called Ultra Magnus (the idiot who couldn’t even open the Matrix of Leadership). Speaking of Ultra Magnus, I may do a recolour and slight redesign of Optimus Prime to make an Ultra Magnus figure, but that’s another MOC for another time…
About this creation

Declan: Well, this is certainly going to be great MOC indeed…

???: Great MOC? GREAT MOC!!!!
Declan: Sorry?

Optimus Prime: You called this a great MOC. I say different.
Declan: Yes, I did.
Optimus Prime: Well, it’s not. I asked for a trailer, and trailers are the right of all sentient primes.
Declan: This is a trailer.

Optimus Prime: A trailer? THIS IS NO TRAILER!

**Sound of kicking**

Optimus Prime: I’m leaving. I’ll come back when I get a trailer…

Declan: Oh really? Then how will you get on the pages?

Optimus Prime: I won’t.
Declan: You will! The fourth wall can be broken! I will post it!

The Armour has two modes: the trailer mode and the armour mode.

The trailer mode is basically the armour stuck together. It doesn’t require a rack to place it on. All it needs is the adaptor piece that allows it to attach to the truck.

There are two thrusters at the back allowing for super speed.

You’ll notice that on the vehicle mode, there are two offset tiles. These peg onto the two regular tiles without creating too strong a bond. It only works when the tiles are lengthways, however.

The trailer fits onto the back of the truck with the arms facing forward.

It can also rotate due to the turntable piece on the adaptor.

Also, there are retractable wings that can deploy at any time.

The trailer separates from the adaptor quite easily.

The adaptor isn’t anything special. It just allows you to place the parts on the vehicle mode.

If you want, you can place the entire armour on his back, but it makes him extremely back heavy. He can’t stand up if you do so.

The parts all separate and you can place them on the robot.

I’ll show you where each of the elements go.

These two attach onto the back of the legs…

…and then two others attach onto the front.

Then you fold the arms back…

…place on the backpack…

…and place on the arms.

And this is Optimus Prime with his DIAclone armour on.

The add-ons make him look bulkier and stronger, even though the arms have been turned upside down.

The back has two pegs for weapon storage.

Here’s a size comparison with the amazing Menasor. Even with the DIAclone armour, Menasor will be a deadly foe for Optimus Prime. Also, click HERE to check out Menasor. He's really cool...

And, that’s about it! Don’t forget to comment, like and add me as a favourite builder! And as always, happy building! :)
