LIU Space Elevator
The quick, easy, and cheap way to move cargo from planet to spaceport.
About this creation
LIU Space Elevator

Let's face it...it's easier to build, maintain, and operate factories on a planet's surface. Unfortunately, it's easier to ship the factories' goods from spaceports. How do you solve this dilemma? You use the Ludgonian Industrial Union's new Space Elevator.

One pilot, in a side-mounted cockpit, uses VTOL engines to transport cargo from the surface to the spaceport.

From the front, you can see the cockpit on the right and the elevator car to the left. Warning lights, sensors, and gauges line the front of the Space Elevator.

The cockpit tilts forward or back to allow the pilot to see the ground or spaceport when landing.

The pilot's sophisticated controls. Elevators these days are no longer just up or down. He also has a volume button for the elevator music. Don't make him mad.

Opposite of the cockpit is the elevator's maintainance access panel and its unit number (2132).

The maintainance panel opens revealing some of the Space Elevator's systems, like pressure controls and weight distribution calculators.

The rear of the Space Elevator opens to reveal the cargo hold. It also has a ladder to access the roof.

Here's the cargo hold open. Unit #2132 is transporting some random parcels to the spaceport above.

The Space Elevator's flat roof is designed to carry larger items that won't fit in the cargo hold.

How does the elevator get to the spaceport? It uses this small pulse engine. Although it is slow, it has enough power to lift any weight and consumes little energy. Less energy equals less costs.

Action Shots

One loader climbs to the roof to direct the crane while his partner gets ready to load the hold.

The Space Elevator can also carry personell to the spaceports. Here, two loaders hitch a ride up to the port.

Note: The LIU Space Elevator's pulse engine is known to fail after 5,672 round trips. Please replace it at that time. The LIU is not liable if you lose count of your trips. The LIU designed the Space Elevator for commercial use, but if the price is right, the LIU will convert it into a military unit (dropship for soldiers or tanks).

Very good. You put a lot of effort into the story of the elevator and how it works, which obviously determined a lot of the awesomeness in its design. Fantastic job overall. 4 Lego Hand-Clip fingers up.

If you're interested in space elevators read a sci-fi book by Iain M. Banks. Its called Feersum Endjinn.
