Hero Factory Invasion from Below Review #6: Flyer Beast vs Breez
Breez is in for the buckin' bronco of her life! This is Flyer Beast vs Breez, set #44020 with a total of 91 pieces!
About this creation
Right, as customary, I'll go through the parts:

1 narrow-shouldered torso piece
6 grey five-long upper limb pieces
6 medium azure five-long lower limb pieces
1 black three-long lower limb pieces
5 black single socket pieces
2 medium azure single socket pieces
1 black technic pin connector with two balljoints
1 grey three-long balljoint/liftarm piece
1 black hand
2 black large "Beast" feet

1 black chest armour piece
4 yellow size-three armour pieces
1 black size-three armour piece
1 black size-four armour piece
1 black size-four printed armour piece

1 black long printed jaw piece
1 yellow short blank jaw piece
4 black "Beast" spikes
1 black brick/socket piece
1 black communication mask/scaffold piece
4 black "Ben 10" tail pieces
and an assortment of small technic/system pieces

Included in this set is a Breez Minifig, armed with a chain to bring that monster down to earth! You can see my delicious Evo Walker Review to see the ins and outs of these minifigs.

Right, I'm gonna be brutally honest here; Breez is my least favorite of the lot. The colors are good to see and such, but what really loses me is that helmet. Yeah, I see what the designers were trying to do, but that lack of covering under the chin, and all that red showing through really bugs me. They could have used that extra space to create a proper mouth for her. Yeah, I know that the original Breez helmet didn't have much of a mouth either, but at least it had SOME sort of detail, to give her more of a face, instead of just having eyes and a flat plain. Heck, even something to symbolise a mouthguard would have been cool! This is just incomplete.

Funny, the best developed character in the show is the leastly developed minifig. But I'll save my thoughts of the webisode to the end of the review series.

The special thing about the Breez fig is that she has these rocket boosters attached to her ankles. Though they look a little clunky, it is nice that Breez has a few extra features that are exclusive to her. Also, It's good that she has them, because it is a nice reference to the ones she had in Breakout. Similarly, if you attach those to her wrists, they make awesome wrist cannons.

She is going to need those wrist cannons to fend off...

...him.

RRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
(The eight year old Werty returns!)

Right, here we go, here come's the Flyer Beast, the second Beast I've reviewed hitherto. One complement I can reserve for all the Beasts; the colour scheme for this guy is so awesome! The yellow and medium azure makes the thing seem really colourful and bright, whilst the black on top of it really neutralises it. I love all the colour schemes of these beasts so much, but Flyer Beast's one is my personal favorite.

Let's take a lookie at the head. One of the main complaints of the whole thing is that the neck is way too long. I can kinda see where they're coming from, yet it doesn't bug me that much. The extention isn't needed though; you can easily take it out and have it not look silly. It does loose that snake like feel though, but hey, to some, it's worth the sacrifice.

The printing is quite cool, I think. I dunno what went wrong with his front left eye though. Is it a scar or something, or did the printing machine just mess up?

It's worth taking note that this is the exact same mold as the Jaw Beast one; even the configuration of the horn is the same. That's kind of a shame, but hey; at least it's a different colour and print.

Those new feet molds are great. They balance well, and look good, even without adding any toes to them, because it kind of looks like it has webbed feet there. The printed piece is okay; I don't like printed pieces all that much, the non-specificness of it makes the situation slightly better, but it would have looked so much better if they had two of them. I'm all for asymmetry, but with the one print it looks more like a tattoo than texture, something which a wild animal would not have.

Another thing not too many people are fond of is this claw, mainly because the arm is kind of stubby. Matching it up to the other arm, it's about the same length, but I guess it's the lack of a second segment. Personally I would have been happier if both arms were like this, I could understand it better myself. The normal length arm with a regular hand to accompany the claw makes it look a lot less impressive. I guess they needed a regular hand to ensure he could hold a mast, but honestly, some clever technic work would have solved that problem.

The claw itself doesn't look too bad, it's very birdlike. It can hold a minifig, too, which I guess is good enough.

The idea of using the Mast as an improvised weapon is, well... kind of a staple of any giant monster story, but hey. It makes more sense than in Brain Attack, where the wild monsters could craft very fine looking weapons (Such as Pyrox, Ogrum and Aquagon) Still, It's good the designers did this, it will help bridge the gap between HF and System, and looks good enough.

Another thing that people just hated about this set is the wings. Yeah, They're lazy, and the build is painfully simple, I admit, but I don't really mind the look. It is almost impossible to make good custom wings, so it's not like I was expecting better, in honesty. They can work though; they're about the right size, and with the right posing, and a little suspense of disbelief, they can actually look pretty cool. I'm on the fence on these wings. It's nothing impressive, but I myself am content.

What is definately lame is the incorparation of the brick piece, to allow a spot for Breez to stand. I can see where they were going, but no; it just doesn't look right. Sorry, doesn't look natural.

Sorry if this review seems sloppy; I was very tired when writing this review. If there are any mistakes I made in format, please tell me and I'll fix them. I'm going to rate this set in three different catogories; Toy value (how good it is to play with and pose ect.), Design Value (The design, including the colour scheme and how it was built) and Moccist Value (The amount of good pieces).
This is how this set turns out;

Toy Value: 3/5 (Very, very basic. What you see is what you get.)

Design Value: 3/5 (Though nothing was really done badly, it is sort of boring. I like the colours though.)

Moccist Value: 3/5 (The large amount of medium azure makes this one a good buy for MOCcists.)

Total score: 9/15

Comments: To be honest, I'm kind of mutral about it. The design isn't bad; the colours are great and the whole model doesn't look too bad, but it doesn't really stand out as a "wow" set to me. Y'know, buy it if you want, but personally, I think the other two beasts are cooler as models.

Quoting Stormjay Rider Seems like a decent set, and with a decent amount of Technic for complex MOCing, which is what sells me. Specialized pieces are pretty good too, and new feet are always welcome. Might end up getting this one myself.
Yeah, the part selection is decent.
