About this creation
My entry to the 2014 Junior Lego Olympics. I picked category one:
The crusade has begun!!
Build yourself as a warrior in the one of the many armies sent to the holy land to take it in the name of the church. you can show yourself preparing to leave your home. marching to Jerusalem. In the fight of your of you life during an ambush!! It can be any of these or anything in between.

Just recently I finished my research paper for ancient history class, which focused on the Third Crusade. So when I saw this category I knew I just had to build for it. This particular scene is of Richard the Lion Heart leading his men into battle against the Muslims at the Castle of Acre. Much of this build (particularly the rock work featured at the bottom of the tower) was inspired by the incredible david Hensel. If you haven't seen his builds yet you should really go check them out, the detail in them is spectacular.

Here is a close up of my character (with the bow) next to Richard. I was originally going to put a trebuchet there, however I then realized it would be far too close there. So, I put a siege wall there instead, and placed the trebuchet behind the castle walls (as if it belonged to the Muslim forces).

Here is my first try at some more complicated rockwork. This took an extremely long time, however it was worth it. Any tips on this type of rockwork would be greatly appreciated.

The trebuchet and the siege wall. Sorry for the bad picture, the uploader was being really stubborn.

Richard and his men.

Thank you for viewing!

Quoting Topher Adams Nice job. The rockwork looks nice but I'm sure with experience you can further improve it. The wall and tower are neat and uniform in structure and I like the way you made the gate, though it could be bigger. I think the wood-made cover was well done as it has a great curve and still looks sturdy enough.
Thank you for all of the feed back! Yeah, I agree with you in terms of the rockwork, for my next build I'm going to attempt to improve it.

Quoting Gilbert Despathens The wall textures are great, but I think you should save some of your 1x1 plates or studs to fill in the undersides of those arches next time you use them (although I'm not sure that Acre's walls had macicolations to begin with). The rocks are excellent, and it would be nice to see you use the technique in a more prominent role sometime (maybe in a small scene where they could grab the spotlight). Overall, though, I have no complaints. Best of luck in the JLO!
Thank you very much Gilbert. I was thinking of using some one by one studs or plates on the arches, however I used up most of mine adding some textures to the wall (I really need to get some more).
